Antonio Giordano is a professor at the Department of Biology, Temple University in Philadelphia, where he is also the director and founder of the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine. He is also a professor of anatomic pathology at Siena University, Italy. He worked at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories when directed by Nobel laureate James Watson. Giordano's research activity mainly focused on the study of the mechanisms underlying cell cycle deregulation in cancer and other human diseases. He discovered key regulators of the cell cycle, such as RBL2/p130, CDK9 and CDK10, and his pioneering studies contributed to the understanding of crucial mechanisms of cancer development. As a researcher, he has authored more than 600 articles and received over 30 awards for his contributions to cancer genetics and human diseases.
