Lung cancer (LC) represents one of the most prevalent health issues globally and is a leading cause of tumor-related mortality. Despite being one the most attractive compounds of plant origin due to its numerous biological properties, the therapeutic applications of rutin (RUT) are limited by its disadvantageous pharmacokinetics. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate in vitro the application of two RUT fatty acids bioconjugates, rutin oleate (RUT-O) and rutin linoleate (RUT-L), as potential improved RUT-based chemotherapeutics in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. The results indicate that both compounds lacked cytotoxic potential in EpiAirway™ tissues at concentrations up to 125 µM. However, only RUT-L exerted anti-tumorigenic activity in NCI-H23 NSCLC cells after 24 h of treatment by reducing cell viability (up to 47%), proliferation, and neutral red uptake, causing cell membrane damage and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage, affecting cytoskeletal distribution, inducing cytoplasmic vacuolation, and increasing oxidative stress. The cytopathic effects triggered by RUT-L at 100 and 125 µM are indicators of a non-apoptotic cell death pathway that resembles the characteristics of paraptosis. The novel findings of this study stand as a basis for further investigations on the anti-cancer properties of RUT-L and their underlying mechanisms.
The evaluation of chlorhexidine-carrier nanosystems based on iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (IOMNPs), has gained significant attention in recent years due to the unique properties of the magnetic nanoparticles (NPSs). Chlorhexidine (CHX), a well-established antimicrobial agent, has been widely used in medical applications, including oral hygiene and surgical antisepsis. This study aims to report an in vitro and in ovo toxicological screening of the synthesized CHX-NPS nanosystem, of the carrier matrix (maghemite NPSs) and of the drug to be delivered (CHX solution), by employing two types of cell lines—HaCaT immortalized human keratinocytes and JB6 Cl 41-5a murine epidermal cells. After the characterization of the CHX-NPS nanosystem through infrared spectroscopy and electronic microscopy, the in vitro results showed that the CHX antimicrobial efficacy was enhanced when delivered through a nanoscale system, with improved bioavailability and reduced toxicity when this was tested as the newly CHX-NPS nanosystem. The in ovo screening exhibited that the CHX-NPS nanosystem did not cause any sign of irritation on the chorioallantoic membrane vasculature and was classified as a non-irritant substance. Despite this, future research should focus on optimizing this type of nanosystem and conducting comprehensive in vivo studies to validate its therapeutic efficacy and safety in clinical settings.

Introduction. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) caused by incorrect working posture among dentists is a serious issue and one that leads to decreased productivity and quality of life. Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of MSDs caused by postural errors in dental healthcare professionals on the body’s center of gravity through a new and innovative technique – baropodometry. Methods. In this study we included 3 oral healthcare specialists with over 20 years experience of practicing in orthostatism, with confirmed work-related MSDs, and performed a baropodometric analysis on them. Results. According to the analysis, all 3 test subjects had alterations of the body’s center of gravity, with uneven distribution of pressures on the feet being recorded by the baropodometer. Conclusion. In an effort to maintain a good field of view and workplace in orthostatism, the subject is forced to adopt an non-ergonomic position that leads to uneven weight distribution, shifted center of gravity that eventually cause musculoskeletal disorders.

Health education is a key element in health promotion and requires strong planning based on theories of medical behavior. The study was conducted over a period of three years, January 2015 - December 2017, by means of an 11 items questionnaire anonymous applied to dentists or medical staff. Seven questions were multiple choice to allow a broader discussion of the results and the rest were one answer. The time of dental practitioners is limited, so their view of the duration of a possible dental health program is essential. Hours per week volunteered, vary from one doctor to another: from 1-3 hours or less to 3-5 hours or as needed. Assessing the willingness to engage (82%) and the time allocated to the dentists surveyed (44% between 1 and 3 hours per week and 51% over 3 hours per week), we can say that we have human resources for implementing an oral health project. The workforce in the field of oral health would like to be involved in such a program and believes that it could benefit from such a program and the construction of appropriate working mechanisms, especially designed for different regions, rural areas and diverse demographic of social categories.
