Insider threat has become a widely accepted issue and one of the major challenges in cybersecurity. This phenomenon indicates that threats require special detection systems, methods, and tools, which entail the ability to facilitate accurate and fast detection of a malicious insider. Several studies on insider threat detection and related areas in dealing with this issue have been proposed. Various studies aimed to deepen the conceptual understanding of insider threats. However, there are many limitations, such as a lack of real cases, biases in making conclusions, which are a major concern and remain unclear, and the lack of a study that surveys insider threats from many different perspectives and focuses on the theoretical, technical, and statistical aspects of insider threats. The survey aims to present a taxonomy of contemporary insider types, access, level, motivation, insider profiling, effect security property, and methods used by attackers to conduct attacks and a review of notable recent works on insider threat detection, which covers the analyzed behaviors, machine-learning techniques, dataset, detection methodology, and evaluation metrics. Several real cases of insider threats have been analyzed to provide statistical information about insiders. In addition, this survey highlights the challenges faced by other researchers and provides recommendations to minimize obstacles.

Forecasting stock prices plays an important role in setting a trading strategy or determining the appropriate timing for buying or selling a stock. The use of technical analysis for financial forecasting has been successfully employed by many researchers. The existing qualitative based methods developed based on fuzzy reasoning techniques cannot describe the data comprehensively, which has greatly limited the objectivity of fuzzy time series in uncertain data forecasting. Extended fuzzy sets (e.g., fuzzy probabilistic set) study the fuzziness of the membership grade to a concept. The cloud model, based on probability measure space, automatically produces random membership grades of a concept through a cloud generator. In this paper, a cloud model-based approach was proposed to confirm accurate stock based on Japanese candlestick. By incorporating probability statistics and fuzzy set theories, the cloud model can aid the required transformation between the qualitative concepts and quantitative data. The degree of certainty associated with candlestick patterns can be calculated through repeated assessments by employing the normal cloud model. The hybrid weighting method comprising the fuzzy time series, and Heikin–Ashi candlestick was employed for determining the weights of the indicators in the multi-criteria decision-making process. Fuzzy membership functions are constructed by the cloud model to deal effectively with uncertainty and vagueness of the stock historical data with the aim to predict the next open, high, low, and close prices for the stock. The experimental results prove the feasibility and high forecasting accuracy of the proposed model.

Background/Objectives: This study presents a survey-based evaluation of an explainable AI (Feature-Augmented) approach, which was designed to support the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by integrating clinical data, MMSE scores, and MRI scans. The approach combines rule-based reasoning and example-based visualization to improve the explainability of AI-generated decisions. Methods: Five doctors participated in the survey: two with 6 to 10 years of experience and three with more than 10 years of experience in the medical field and expertise in AD. The participants evaluated different AI outputs, including clinical feature-based interpretations, MRI-based visual heat maps, and a combined interpretation approach. Results: The model achieved a 100% trust score, with 20% of the participants reporting full trust and 80% expressing conditional trust, understanding the diagnosis but seeking further clarification. Overall, the participants reported that the integrated explanation format improved their understanding of the model decisions and enhanced their confidence in using AI-assisted diagnosis. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this paper is the first to gather the views of medical experts to evaluate the explainability of an AI decision-making model when diagnosing AD. These preliminary findings suggest that explainability plays a key role in building trust and ease of use of AI tools in clinical settings, especially when used by experienced clinicians to support complex diagnoses, such as AD.

In the development of human–machine interfaces, facial expression analysis has attracted considerable attention, as it provides a natural and efficient way of communication. Congruence between facial and behavioral inference in face processing is considered a serious challenge that needs to be solved in the near future. Automatic facial expression is a difficult classification issue because of the high interclass variability caused by the significant interdependence of the environmental conditions on the face appearance caused by head pose, scale, and illumination occlusions from their variances. In this paper, an adaptive model for smile classification is suggested that integrates a row-transform-based feature extraction algorithm and a cascade classifier to increase the precision of facial recognition. We suggest a histogram-based cascade smile classification method utilizing different facial features. The candidate feature set was designed based on the first-order histogram probability, and a cascade classifier with a variety of parameters was used at the classification stage. Row transformation is used to exclude any unnecessary coefficients in a vector, thereby enhancing the discriminatory capacity of the extracted features and reducing the sophistication of the calculations. Cascading gives the opportunity to train an extremely precise classification by taking a weighted average of poor learners’ decisions. Through accumulating positive and negative images of a single object, this algorithm can build a complete classifier capable of classifying different smiles in a limited amount of time (near real time) and with a high level of precision (92.2–98.8%) as opposed to other algorithms by large margins (5% compared with traditional neural network and 2% compared with Deep Neural Network based methods).

Harmony search algorithm (HSA) is extensively utilized in engineering optimization. Nevertheless, it encounters problems of slow convergence and reduced accuracy, which hinder its capability to escape local optima. This paper proposes HSA-DELF, a novel hybrid algorithm that combines differential evolution (DE) and Lévy flight (LF) techniques to enhance the performance of HSA. HSA-DELF leverages multi-mutation strategies of DE and LF random walk combined with weighted individuals to improve exploration and exploitation based on population fitness standard deviation comparison, and adopts pairwise iterative updates of the population to achieve faster convergence and higher solution quality. Extensive experiments were conducted to validate performance on 23 classic benchmark functions and 12 CEC 2022 benchmark functions, followed by comprehensive testing on 7 engineering problems, demonstrating the superiority of HSA-DELF. Comparative analysis with 5 well-known algorithms (HSA, DE, CSA, GA, and PSO) and 4 HSA variants (IHS, MHSA, IHSDE, and IMGHSA) confirmed the robustness of HSA-DELF. Statistical results, including best, mean, standard deviation, and worst values, consistently highlight the superior performance of HSA-DELF in terms of convergence speed, solution quality, and robustness. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test further corroborated these significant advantages. HSA-DELF showed notable improvements in 6 out of 7 engineering problems, achieving an accuracy of 85.71%. This study establishes HSA-DELF as an effective and reliable method for solving complex engineering optimization problems.

Various aspects of task execution load balancing of Internet of Things (IoTs) networks can be optimised using intelligent algorithms provided by software-defined networking (SDN). These load balancing aspects include makespan, energy consumption, and execution cost. While past studies have evaluated load balancing from one or two aspects, none has explored the possibility of simultaneously optimising all aspects, namely, reliability, energy, cost, and execution time. For the purposes of load balancing, implementing multi-objective optimisation (MOO) based on meta-heuristic searching algorithms requires assurances that the solution space will be thoroughly explored. Optimising load balancing provides not only decision makers with optimised solutions but a rich set of candidate solutions to choose from. Therefore, the purposes of this study were (1) to propose a joint mathematical formulation to solve load balancing challenges in cloud computing and (2) to propose two multi-objective particle swarm optimisation (MP) models; distance angle multi-objective particle swarm optimization (DAMP) and angle multi-objective particle swarm optimization (AMP). Unlike existing models that only use crowding distance as a criterion for solution selection, our MP models probabilistically combine both crowding distance and crowding angle. More specifically, we only selected solutions that had more than a 0.5 probability of higher crowding distance and higher angular distribution. In addition, binary variants of the approaches were generated based on transfer function, and they were denoted by binary DAMP (BDAMP) and binary AMP (BAMP). After using MOO mathematical functions to compare our models, BDAMP and BAMP, with state of the standard models, BMP, BDMP and BPSO, they were tested using the proposed load balancing model. Both tests proved that our DAMP and AMP models were far superior to the state of the art standard models, MP, crowding distance multi-objective particle swarm optimisation (DMP), and PSO. Therefore, this study enables the incorporation of meta-heuristic in the management layer of cloud networks.
