Magnesium-based materials, which are known for their light weight and exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, hold immense promise in the biomedical, automotive, aerospace, and military sectors. However, their inherent limitations, including low wear resistance and poor mechanical properties, have driven the development of magnesium-based metal matrix composites (Mg-MMCs). The pivotal role of powder metallurgy (PM) in fabricating Mg-MMCs was explored, enhancing their mechanical and corrosion resistance characteristics. The mechanical characteristics depend upon the fabrication methodology, composition, processing technique, and reinforcement added to the magnesium. PM is identified as the most efficient due to its ability to produce near-net shape composites with high precision, cost-effectiveness, and minimal waste. Furthermore, PM enables precise control over critical processing parameters, such as compaction pressure, sintering temperature, and particle size, which directly influence the composite’s microstructure and properties. This study highlights various reinforcements, mainly carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene nanoparticles (GNPs), silicon carbide (SiC), and hydroxyapatite (HAp), and their effects on improving wear, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength. Among these, CNTs emerge as a standout reinforcement due to their ability to enhance multiple properties when used at optimal weight fractions. Further, this study delves into the interaction between reinforcement types and matrix materials, emphasizing the importance of uniform dispersion in preventing porosity and improving durability. Optimal PM conditions, such as a compaction pressure of 450 MPa, sintering temperatures between 550 and 600 °C, and sintering times of 2 h, are recommended for achieving superior mechanical performance. Emerging trends in reinforcement materials, including nanostructures and bioactive particles, are also discussed, underscoring their potential to widen the application spectrum of Mg-MMCs.

The presented research examined the impact of using biodiesel as a fuel for existing diesel engines during the transition to the broader adoption of electric vehicles powered by renewable energy or through integrated hybrid drive systems. The authors considered previous research on this topic, which is demonstrated by a literature review. This paper will utilize the findings to further explore the potential of optimizing existing engines by using biodiesel and thus propose their continued use in the transition period as one of the clean fuels. This paper outlines the standards that define fuel quality and presents a test bench equipped with an experimental engine and specialized equipment for laboratory examination, enabling the measurement of emissions and the determination of cylinder pressure. To ensure the repeatability of the experimental conditions and facilitate future comparison of the obtained results, the engine examination was conducted according to the standard ESC 13-mode test. The examination process confirmed a significant reduction in particulate matter emissions (on average 40%) but, simultaneously, an increase in nitrogen oxide emissions (on average 25%), whose level, according to data from the literature, depends on the type of raw materials used for biodiesel production. Brake thermal efficiency is higher when operating with biodiesel (on average 1.5%). Still, it was concluded that the use of biodiesel in existing diesel engines is feasible only if the engines are equipped with variable systems for automatically adjusting the compression ratio, fuel injection time, valve timing, and so on. The outcomes from the examination conducted can be further processed by applying statistical methods and represent an essential database for further research in this scientific area.

The growing demand for passenger comfort and environmental protection, as well as reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, drives the search for new, high-performance materials. Composite leaf springs, applied as part of elastic suspension systems and with the advantages of being strong and lightweight, with a high load-carrying capacity, are a possible method with which to achieve those goals. In this study, an epoxy thermoset was blended with 10–50 wt.% polysulfide rubber and reinforced with 10 wt.% alumina powder. The characteristics of the copolymer composite blend were studied by performing ASTM mechanical tests, including tensile strength, impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio tests. The experimental outcomes showed that increasing the proportion of polysulfide rubber caused a reduction in the maximum tensile strength, modulus at fracture, natural as well as damped frequency, and hardness, whereas a significant improvement was observed in impact strength, logarithmic decrement, and the damping ratio. Reinforcement with alumina powder caused a meaningful increase in the maximum tensile strength and natural frequency, with a good improvement in deformation strength. Impact strength and the damping ratio were maximized when alumina powder was increasingly added. This increase was contrary to what occurred for the hardness, which decreased upon reinforcement. Statistical methods, altering the design of the experiments, and linear regression were used to optimize the composite mixture for manufacturing leaf springs. Finally, the model was validated using analysis of variance and probability plots (normal distribution). The regression equations of tensile and impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio test results proved composite suitability for the application of leaf springs under representative loading and operating conditions. Finite element analysis of the composite material was performed using SolidWorks Simulation 22 Mechanical software. ANSYS 2022 R1 was used to study the mechanical properties of the leaf spring model fabricated from the proposed composite material. The finite element analysis results showed a significant reduction in the weight of leaf springs, with very good mechanical properties, including the tensile and impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio, when using the proposed copolymer-reinforced composite material.

The powder-mixed electric-discharge machining (PMEDM) process has been the focus of researchers for quite some time. This method overcomes the constraints of conventional machining, viz., low material removal rate (MRR) and high surface roughness (SR) in hard-cut materials, tool failure, and a high tool wear ratio (TWR). However, to determine the optimal machining parameter levels for improving MRR, surface finish must be measured during actual experimentation using various parameter levels across different materials. It is a very costly and time-consuming process for industries. However, in the age of Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence machine learning (AI-ML), it provides an efficient solution to real manufacturing problems when big data is available. In this study, experimentation was conducted on AISI D2 steel using the PMEDM process for SR analysis with different parameters, viz. current, voltage, cycle time (TOn), powder concentration (PC), and duty factor (DF). Moreover, machine learning models were used to predict SR values for selected parameter levels in the PMEDM process. In this research, Gaussian process regression (GPR) with a squared exponential kernel, support vector machines, and ensemble regression models were used for computational analysis. The results of this work showed that Gaussian regression, support vector machine, and ensemble regression achieved 95%, 92%, and 83% accuracy, respectively. The GPR model achieved the best predictive performance among these three models.

The growing request regarding the comfort of passengers, saving the environment by using new materials to lower fuel consumption, as well as exhaust emissions of motor vehicles, is the main cause of searching for new and high-performance products in this area. Composite materials are the most promising technology. The composite leaf springs, applying as part of the elastic suspension system with high strength, load-carrying capacity, and lightweight, are one of the possible manners to achieve those goals inside of vehicles used for the carriage of goods. As an example, inside the manuscript, fabricated epoxy thermoset is blended with 10-50 wt.% of polysulfide rubber composites and reinforced with 10 wt.% of alumina powder. The characteristics of the copolymer composite blend were studied by performing ASTM mechanical tests, including tensile strength, impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio tests. Experimental test results showed that tensile strength, natural frequency, and damped ratio were decreased when the polysulfide rubber percent increase in contrast to tensile strength, which showed a noticeable decrement. From the second side, the reinforcement on the basis of alumina powder caused a weighty increase in tensile strength and natural frequency with a good improvement in deformation strength. Impact strength and damping ratio were maximized when alumina powder was added increasingly, while this increase was contrary to, causing a decrease in the hardness of reinforcement. The experimental results were optimized using the statistical methods. Design of the experiment and linear regression model used to select the most appropriate mixture inside the proposed composite material for leaf springs manufacturing. Finally, validation of the model was realized by application of the statistical method of analysis of variance and probability plots (normal distribution). The regression equations of tensile and impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio test results showed that the proposed composite material is suitable to be applied for manufacturing the leaf springs considering loadings and working conditions during exploitation of such vehicles in traffic. Finite element analysis on the basis of a finite element model of composite material was performed using SolidWorks Simulation 22. Mechanical software ANSYS 2022 R1 was used to study the mechanical properties of the leaf spring model fabricated of the proposed composite material. Finite element analysis results interpreted and showed significant reduction in leaf spring weight with very good mechanical properties considering tensile and impact strength, hardness, and damping ratio when using the proposed copolymer-reinforced composite material.
