We report the direct observation of surface magnetization domains of the magnetoelectric using photoemission electron microscopy with magnetic circular dichroism contrast and magnetic force microscopy. The domain pattern is strongly affected by the applied electric field conditions. Zero-field cooling results in an equal representation of the two domain types, while electric-field cooling selects one dominant domain type. These observations confirm the existence of surface magnetization, required by symmetry in magnetoelectric antiferromagnets.
We present a microscopic semianalytical theory for the description of organic molecules interacting strongly with a cavity mode. Exciton-vibration coupling within the molecule and exciton-cavity interaction are treated on an equal footing by employing a temperature-dependent variational approach. The interplay between strong exciton-vibration coupling and strong exciton-cavity coupling gives rise to a hybrid ground state, which we refer to as the lower polaron polariton. Explicit expressions for the ground-state wave function, the zero-temperature quasiparticle weight of the lower polaron polariton, the photoluminescence line strength, and the mean number of vibrational quanta are obtained in terms of the optimal variational parameters. The dependence of these quantities upon the exciton-cavity coupling strength reveals that strong cavity coupling leads to an enhanced vibrational dressing of the cavity mode, and at the same time a vibrational decoupling of the dark excitons, which in turn results in a lower polaron polariton resembling a single-mode dressed bare lower polariton in the strong-coupling regime. Thermal effects on several observables are briefly discussed.
In this work, we address the ground-state properties of the anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg XYZ chain under the interplay of magnetic fields and the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction which we interpret as an electric field. The identification of the regions of enhanced sensitivity determines criticality in this model. We calculate the Wigner-Yanase skew information (WYSI) as a coherence witness of an arbitrary two-qubit state under specific measurement bases. The WYSI is demonstrated to be a good indicator for detecting the quantum phase transitions. The finite-size scaling of coherence susceptibility is investigated. We find that the factorization line in the antiferromagnetic phase becomes the factorization volume in the gapless chiral phase induced by DM interactions, implied by the vanishing concurrence for a wide range of field. We also present the phase diagram of the model with three phases—antiferromagnetic, paramagnetic, and chiral—and point out a few common mistakes in deriving the correlation functions for the systems with broken reflection symmetry.
We study the Kitaev chain under generalized twisted boundary conditions, for which both the amplitudes and the phases of the boundary couplings can be tuned at will. We explicitly show the presence of exact zero modes for large chains belonging to the topological phase in the most general case, in spite of the absence of “edges” in the system. For specific values of the phase parameters, we rigorously obtain the condition for the presence of the exact zero modes in finite chains, and show that the zero modes obtained are indeed localized. The full spectrum of the twisted chains with zero chemical potential is analytically presented. Finally, we demonstrate the persistence of zero modes (level crossing) even in the presence of disorder or interactions.
The Dirac-Frenkel time-dependent variation is employed to probe the dynamics of the zero temperature sub-Ohmic spin-boson model with strong friction utilizing the Davydov D1 ansatz. It is shown that initial conditions of the phonon bath have considerable influence on the dynamics. Counterintuitively, even in the very strong coupling regime, quantum coherence features still manage to survive under the polarized bath initial condition, while such features are absent under the factorized bath initial condition. In addition, a coherent-incoherent transition is found at a critical coupling strength α ≈ 0.1 for s = 0.25 under the factorized bath initial condition. We quantify how faithfully our ansatz follows the Schrödinger equation, finding that the time-dependent variational approach is robust for strong dissipation and deep sub-Ohmic baths (s ≪ 1).
