Gastric cancer is one of the most frequent cancer types in the Latin American population, and its development is related to multiple factors, including diet. The present systematic review and meta-analysis, based on PRISMA, aims to determine dietary components associated with gastric cancer in Latin America. The dietary components were divided into food and micro- and macronutrients. Meta-analyses were performed for the different groups of foods, and the effects were calculated using Odds Ratios. A total of 483 studies were identified; thirteen articles were included after removing duplicates and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The meta-analysis for the different groups of food showed that daily consumption of vegetables (OR 0.54; 95% CI [0.41, 071]) and fruits (OR 0.57; 95% CI [0.45, 0.73]) were protective factors for gastric cancer; consumption of fresh meat and eggs (OR 1.47; 95% CI [1.12, 1.95]), and salted, canned, and pickled foods (OR 2.30; 95% CI [1.10, 4.80]) were risk factors for gastric cancer. Consuming carotenoids, plant sterols, total polyphenols, proteins, and polyunsaturated fats was a protective factor regarding micro- and macronutrients. Therefore, the consumption of nitrite and nitrate in meat products and capsaicin was considered a risk factor for gastric cancer.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is an energy and signaling molecule. It is synthesized endogenously and can be taken as an oral supplement. This review aimed to identify the effects of oral ATP supplementation on anaerobic exercise in healthy resistance-trained adults. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed based on the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) criteria. The inclusion criteria were articles published from 2000 to 2022, with anaerobic variables (maximal strength, maximum repetitions, and maximum anaerobic power) measurable in healthy adults with experience in resistance training, only randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials (RCTs), and with the acute (a single dose 30 min to 24 h before the tests) and/or chronic (>1 day) oral supplementation of ATP. A total of five RCTs with 121 adult men were included. The oral ATP supplementation achieved significantly greater gains in maximal strength compared with the placebo (PL) (MD = 8.13 kg, 95%CI [3.36–12.90], p < 0.001). Still, no differences were observed in the maximum number of repetitions or the maximum anaerobic power. Furthermore, 400 mg of ATP showed improvement in anaerobic exercise regardless of the duration of the supplementation protocol. In conclusion, supplementation with 400 mg of ATP doses can improve maximal muscle strength in resistance-trained men.

Taekwondo is a sport in which performance depends on the ability to execute effective strategies. In TKD, nutrition and sleep quality impact recovery and performance through various psychological and physiological responses. Objective: Determine the relationship between nutrition, sleep, and emotional state in adolescent taekwondo practitioners from Mérida, Yucatán, aged between 8 and 18 years. Materials and Methods: cross-sectional, comparative quantitative study. Standardized tools were applied, such as the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS) to assess emotional state. Data were collected through Google Forms, while the assessment of dietary habits was carried out in person. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 22.0. The sample consisted of athletes with belt ranks ranging from yellow to black, belonging to the Mexican Taekwondo Association “Hnos. Vergara.” Results and Discussion: A significant association was found between sleep quality and emotional state (R = 0.010 y ρ = 1.000). On the other hand, no significant relationship was identified between nutrition and sleep quality (p = 1.000), not between nutrition and emotional state (p = 0.063). However, based on the qualitative analysis of dietary data, a lack of healthy eating habits and choices was observed, which could increase the risk of overweight, obesity, and chronic degenerative diseases at an early age, in the absence of timely intervention. Conclusion: It is essential to establish proper nutritional control and provide psychological support to athletes to prevent health problems and optimize their recovery. The combination of a balanced diet, adequate rest, and emotional stability is key to their overall well-being and improved performance. Promoting sustainable habits in adolescents contributes to the prevention of chronic diseases. Promoting proper nutrition and optimal sleep quality supports muscle recovery, improves stress tolerance, and reduces the risk of injury.

Introduction: Maximum voluntary isometric handgrip strength (MVHIS) is important for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) techniques. Muscle quality (MQ), assessed using a Skulpt Chisel® device, has demonstrated a correlation between muscle mass and leg strength. This study aimed to identify the correlation between forearm MQ (FMQ) and arm MQ (AMQ) with arm lean mass (ALM) and MVIHS in BJJ practitioners from southeastern Mexico. Methods: Thirty-two adult male Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) were included. The FMQ and AMQ were assessed using a Skulpt Chisel® device, the ALM with an InBody 570® analyzer, and the MVIHS with a GRIPX EH101 dynamometer. Student's t-test for independent samples and Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) were used to statistical analysis. Results: Significant difference was observed between ALM of both arms (right 3.87 ± 0.75; left 3.83 ± 0.74 kg; p = 0.027); but not between FMQ (right 114.77 ± 10.27; left 115.65 ± 9.15; p = 0.226), AMQ (right 119.76 ± 10.98; left 119.24 ± 11.19; p = 0.315) and MVIHS (right 44.07 ± 8.9; left 43.25 ± 8.62 kg; p = 0.183). Strong and significant correlation (p < 0.001) was observed between ALM and MVIHS on the right side (r = 0.621; 95% CI = 0.329 to 0.913) and the left side (r = 0.623; 95% CI = 0.332 to 0.915). No significant correlations were observed between FMQ or AMQ with ALM or MVIHS. Conclusions: MQ measurement using Skulpt Chisel® device does not correlate with muscle mass or upper limb strength in BJJ athletes from southeastern Mexico.
