Edson da C. Bortoni was born in Maringá, Brazil on December 1, 1966. He received an electrical engineering degree from the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI), Itajubá, Brazil in 1990; an M.Sc. degree in energy systems planning from the University of Campinas, Campinas, Brazil in 1993; a D.Sc. degree in power systems from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), São Paulo, Brazil in 1998 and an Academic Scholar degree (Habilitation) from the USP, São Carlos, Brazil in 2012. He was an adjunct professor at São Paulo State University, Guaratinguetá, Brazil and a visiting scholar at Amazon University, Manaus, Brazil at the Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria, and at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. He is currently a professor at UNIFEI. Dr. Bortoni is an AE and subject editor of IET GTD and a member of the Editorial Committee of the Flow Measurement and Instrumentation Journal. He is the chair of the WG-4 (IEEE STD. C50.12) and a member of the WG-7 (IEEE STD 115), WG-8 (IEEE STD. C50.13), WG-10 (IEEE STD. 1110) and EMC Grid Code Task Force. His research interests include electrical machines design and modeling, sensors, power generation, smart grids and energy systems development. Dr. Bortoni is a senior member of the International Society for Optical and Photonics and a fellow member of the International Society of Automation.
