Sliding mode control is widely used to enhance the speed control performance of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). However, the slow reaching onto the sliding surface and chatting phenomena of conventional sliding mode reaching law (SMRL) is still a challenging issue. This article proposes a novel adaptive SMRL (ASMRL) to solve these problems. This ASMRL includes the system state variables, an exponential function term bounded by the absolute value of the switching function, and an adaptive switching gain term influenced by the convergence of the system state. This approach efficiently accelerates the velocity at which the system state reaches the sliding mode surface and effectively suppresses chattering. Then an enhanced sliding mode controller is designed for the speed regulation of PMSM systems. Finally, mathematical stability analysis, numerical analysis, simulation, and experimental validation are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper proposes a novel nonlinear speed control method for permanent magnet synchronous motors that enhances their robustness and tracking performance. This technique integrates a sliding-mode disturbance observer and variable-gain fractional-order super-twisting sliding-mode control within a vector-control framework. The proposed control scheme employs a sliding-mode control method to mitigate chattering and improve dynamics by implementing fractional-order theory with a variable-gain super-twisting sliding manifold design while regulating the speed of the considered motor system. The aforementioned observer is suggested to enhance the control accuracy by estimating and compensating for the lumped disturbances. The proposed methodology demonstrates its superiority over other control schemes such as traditional sliding-mode control, super-twisting sliding-mode control, and the proposed technique. MATLAB/Simulink simulations and real-time implementation validate its performance, showing its potential as a reliable and efficient control approach for the system under study in practical applications.

Conventional dual-electrical-port dual-mechanical-port permanent magnet synchronous machine design with two separate stator windings with different pole pairs, increases structural complexity, losses, and electromagnetic coupling. The integrated winding instead superimposes current components with different pole-pair numbers in a single winding, forming two independently controllable magnetomotive force (MMF) distributions and a more compact topology. However, control algorithm for integrated winding machines is still limited. This paper presents a control system design for a dual-rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor (DRPMSM) with integrated winding. Using a linear transformation between equivalent separated winding currents and integrated winding currents, a decoupled control structure is built with individual speed loops for each rotor and two inner current control loops, enabling independent control of both rotors. Experimental results and simulations confirm good tracking performance and effective decoupling between the two rotors, indicating the feasibility of the proposed approach for dual-rotor integrated winding drive systems.
