This study employs the Biomod2 model, along with 22 bioclimatic variables, to predict the geographic distribution of the medicinal plant Epimedium acuminatum Franch. for the current period and three future timeframes (2050s, 2070s, and 2090s). Ultimately, 11 key environmental variables were identified as critical for assessing the habitat suitability of the medicinal plant. These include the annual mean temperature (Bio 1), isothermally (Bio 3), temperature seasonality (Bio 4), maximum temperature of the warmest month (Bio 5), minimum temperature of the coldest month (Bio 6), mean temperature of the driest quarter (Bio 9), mean temperature of the coldest quarter (Bio 11), precipitation of the driest quarter (Bio 17), elevation (Elev), aspect, and slope. The results indicate that the current high suitability areas are primarily distributed across Yunnan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Hunan, Guangxi, and Hubei provinces. In the future, the extent of high suitability areas is expected to increase. This study aims to provide a theoretical reference for the conservation of E. acuminatum genetic resources from a geographic distribution perspective.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner, 1808) is a significant global agricultural pest, particularly posing a major threat during the boll-forming stage of cotton. In recent years, the severity of its damage has increased markedly, and its population dynamics and biological characteristics may be profoundly affected by global climate change. This study conducted a systematic meta-analysis to evaluate the life history traits of H. armigera under conditions of rising global temperatures, different photoperiods, and humidity levels. A comprehensive analysis of 26 related studies revealed that different developmental stages of H. armigera have distinct temperature requirements. When the temperature is within an optimal range (32 °C to 35 °C), the development rate of H. armigera accelerates, the life cycle shortens, and the reproductive capacity of female moths increases. However, when the temperature exceeds 35 °C, development slows, mortality rates increase, and the oviposition of female moths decreases significantly, indicating a negative impact of high temperatures on growth and reproduction. Overall, as the temperature rises above 20 °C, various physiological indicators of H. armigera significantly improve, and at 32 °C, the larval development period and overall life cycle reach their shortest duration. This meta-analysis provides new insights into the biological responses of H. armigera in the context of climate change and offers a scientific basis for future control strategies.

Curculio davidi is a major pest in chestnut-producing regions in China, and there have been many studies on its occurrence, biological characteristics, and management strategies. However, few of them have focused on the distribution changes of the pest under climate change. In this study, the MaxEnt model (version 3.3.4) and ArcGIS software (version 10.8) were first employed to map the current and future (2050 s and 2080 s) suitable habitat distribution of the weevil under climate change (CMIP 6: SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP5-8.5). The results indicate that the highly suitable areas for C. davidi are mainly concentrated in Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, the coastal areas of Shandong, and eastern Guizhou, northwestern Hunan, and northeastern Sichuan provinces in China. Through the Jackknife test of 19 climate factors, six climate factors affecting the distribution of C. davidi were identified, with precipitation from July (Prec7), precipitation of warmest quarter (Bio18), and temperature seasonality (standard deviation × 100) (Bio4) contributing a combined percentage of 86.3%. Under three different climate scenarios (CMIP 6: SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP5-8.5), the area of moderately suitable regions is projected to increase by 22.12–27.33% in the 2050 s and by 17.80–38.22% in the 2080 s compared to the current distribution, while the area of highly suitable regions shows a shrinking trend. This study provides data support for the management strategies of C. davidi and offers new insights into the dynamic changes of similar forestry pests.

L. chinensis is a National Grade II Protected Animal in China, and predicting its suitable habitats in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies. This study uses methods such as the MaxEnt model to predict suitable habitats for L. chinensis in the region, providing a scientific basis for species conservation. The model results show that the AUC value of MaxEnt is 0.989, indicating excellent predictive performance. Under current climatic conditions, the area of highly suitable habitats for L. chinensis in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is 75.1 × 103 km2, accounting for 8.8% of the total area of the region. However, under the SSP2-4.5 climate scenario, the predicted results indicate a general decline in suitable habitats for the species. This change signals that the survival of L. chinensis will face significant risks in the future, highlighting the urgent need to develop and implement scientifically effective conservation measures.

Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is a significant economic pest that has recently invaded Africa and Asia. However, much of the information regarding its ecological capabilities in these newly invaded environments remains largely unknown. In this study, the life history traits of the fall armyworm under conditions of increased temperature, different photoperiods, and varying humidity levels were systematically evaluated. Among 43 studies, a total of 20 studies were included in the analysis by passing the screening criteria, and random-effects meta-analysis, fixed-effects meta-analysis, and meta-regression were conducted. It has been found that with the increase in temperature above 20 °C, various physiological indicators of the fall armyworm are significantly enhanced. When the temperature reaches 32 °C, the physiological activities of S. frugiperda are at their highest point. As the temperature increases, the duration of each developmental stage of the fall armyworm decreases significantly, accompanied by an increase in oviposition quantity and period in females. Additionally, the pupal development time is shortened, which leads to an increase in the lifespan of the adult moth. Using temperature and relative humidity as environmental variables, the optimal survival conditions for each insect state of the fall armyworm were calculated. These findings can assist in predicting the population dynamics of the fall armyworm and in formulating appropriate and practical management strategies.

Troides aeacus is the largest butterfly in China and is highly valued for its ornamental beauty. Due to T. aeacus being classified as a national second-class protected species in China, studying its spatial distribution is crucial for developing effective conservation measures. In this study, a total of 490 distribution points were obtained, and the potential distribution areas of the golden-sheathed T. aeacus were analyzed by using the maximum entropy model (MaxEnt) based on three different greenhouse gas emission scenarios, namely, SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP5-8.5, in combination with nine important environmental variables. The results indicate that temperature and precipitation are the primary environmental factors influencing the suitable habitat of T. aeacus, with key variables including the minimum temperature of the coldest month (bio6), temperature annual range (bio7), mean temperature of the warmest quarter (bio10), annual precipitation (bio12), precipitation of the coldest quarter (bio19), and slope. The height distribution of T. aeacus in my country is in the area south of the Huaihe River in the Qinling Mountains, with a total area of 270.96 × 104 km2, accounting for 28.23% of the total area of China. According to future climate change conditions, as climate warming progresses, both low- and high-suitability areas show an expansion trend in most scenarios, particularly under the SSP5-8.5 scenario, where highly suitable areas increase significantly while moderately suitable areas gradually shrink. To address future climate change, conservation strategies should focus on protecting highly suitable areas and strengthening the management of marginal habitats to enhance the adaptability and survival chances of T. aeacus.
