The enormous popularity of the internet across all spheres of human life has introduced various risks of malicious attacks in the network. The activities performed over the network could be effortlessly proliferated, which has led to the emergence of intrusion detection systems. The patterns of the attacks are also dynamic, which necessitates efficient classification and prediction of cyber attacks. In this paper we propose a hybrid principal component analysis (PCA)-firefly based machine learning model to classify intrusion detection system (IDS) datasets. The dataset used in the study is collected from Kaggle. The model first performs One-Hot encoding for the transformation of the IDS datasets. The hybrid PCA-firefly algorithm is then used for dimensionality reduction. The XGBoost algorithm is implemented on the reduced dataset for classification. A comprehensive evaluation of the model is conducted with the state of the art machine learning approaches to justify the superiority of our proposed approach. The experimental results confirm the fact that the proposed model performs better than the existing machine learning models.

Water management is one of the crucial topics discussed in most of the international forums. Water harvesting and recycling are the major requirements to meet the global upcoming demand of the water crisis, which is prevalent. To achieve this, we need more emphasis on water management techniques that are applied across various categories of the applications. Keeping in mind the population density index, there is a dire need to implement intelligent water management mechanisms for effective distribution, conservation and to maintain the water quality standards for various purposes. The prescribed work discusses about few major areas of applications that are required for efficient water management. Those are recent trends in wastewater recycle, water distribution, rainwater harvesting and irrigation management using various Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. The data acquired for these applications are purely unique and also differs by type. Hence, there is a dire need to use a model or algorithm that can be applied to provide solutions across all these applications. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques along with the Internet of things (IoT) framework can facilitate in designing a smart water management system for sustainable water usage from natural resources. This work surveys various water management techniques and the use of AI/DL along with the IoT network and case studies, sample statistical analysis to develop an efficient water management framework.

The grid denotes the electric grid which consists of communication lines, control stations, transformers, and distributors that aids in supplying power from the electrical plant to the consumers. Presently, the electric grid constitutes humongous power production units which generates millions of megawatts of power distributed across several demographic regions. There is a dire need to efficiently manage this power supplied to the various consumer domains such as industries, smart cities, household and organizations. In this regard, a smart grid with intelligent systems is being deployed to cater the dynamic power requirements. A smart grid system follows the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) model, in which Information Technology (IT) infrastructure is integrated with physical systems. In the scenario of the smart grid embedded with CPS, the Machine Learning (ML) module is the IT aspect and the power dissipation units are the physical entities. In this research, a novel Multidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (MLSTM) technique is being proposed to predict the stability of the smart grid network. The results obtained are evaluated against other popular Deep Learning approaches such as Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), traditional LSTM and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN). The experimental results prove that the MLSTM approach outperforms the other ML approaches.

Recently, research into Wireless Body-Area Sensor Networks (WBASN) or Wireless Body-Area Networks (WBAN) has gained much importance in medical applications, and now plays a significant role in patient monitoring. Among the various operations, routing is still recognized as a resource-intensive activity. As a result, designing an energy-efficient routing system for WBAN is critical. The existing routing algorithms focus more on energy efficiency than security. However, security attacks will lead to more energy consumption, which will reduce overall network performance. To handle the issues of reliability, energy efficiency, and security in WBAN, a new cluster-based secure routing protocol called the Secure Optimal Path-Routing (SOPR) protocol has been proposed in this paper. This proposed algorithm provides security by identifying and avoiding black-hole attacks on one side, and by sending data packets in encrypted form on the other side to strengthen communication security in WBANs. The main advantages of implementing the proposed protocol include improved overall network performance by increasing the packet-delivery ratio and reducing attack-detection overheads, detection time, energy consumption, and delay.

The impact analysis of deep learning models for COVID-19-infected X-ray images is an extremely challenging task. Every model has unique capabilities that can provide suitable solutions for some given problem. The prescribed work analyzes various deep learning models that are used for capturing the chest X-ray images. Their performance-defining factors, such as accuracy, f1-score, training and the validation loss, are tested with the support of the training dataset. These deep learning models are multi-layered architectures. These parameters fluctuate based on the behavior of these layers, learning rate, training efficiency, or over-fitting of models. This may in turn introduce sudden changes in the values of training accuracy, testing accuracy, loss or validation loss, f1-score, etc. Some models produce linear responses with respect to the training and testing data, such as Xception, but most of the models provide a variation of these parameters either in the accuracy or the loss functions. The prescribed work performs detailed experimental analysis of deep learning image neural network models and compares them with the above said parameters with detailed analysis of these parameters with their responses regarding accuracy and loss functions. This work also analyses the suitability of these model based on the various parameters, such as the accuracy and loss functions to various applications. This prescribed work also lists out various challenges on the implementation and experimentation of these models. Solutions are provided for enhancing the performance of these deep learning models. The deep learning models that are used in the prescribed work are Resnet, VGG16, Resnet with VGG, Inception V3, Xception with transfer learning, and CNN. The model is trained with more than 1500 images of the chest-X-ray data and tested with around 132 samples of the X-ray image dataset. The prescribed work analyzes the accuracy, f1-score, recall, and precision of these models and analyzes these parameters. It also measures parameters such as training accuracy, testing accuracy, loss, and validation loss. Each epoch of every model is recorded to measure the changes in these parameters during the experimental analysis. The prescribed work provides insight for future research through various challenges and research findings with future directions.

In the current era, there are a plethora of mobile phone companies rendering different features. It is challenging to distinguish the best and create correlations among them. However, this can be accomplished through crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is the process of gathering information from multiple sources, and we use the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) process to determine which company’s model is the best among many. The weight value of each model is compared to the assigned values, and if one of the company product weights is greater than the assigned weight, that product is the best. Eventually, we can use this process to select the most preferred and best mobile phone model from among all other models. Gray Relational Analysis (GRA) is one of the most popular models, employing a grey co-efficient that estimates the data items by ranking. This model defines a process’s situation or state as black with no information and white with perfect information. In this work, AHP initially assumes criteria weights and assigns rank with the CR (Consistency Ratio) of 1.5%. The criteria weights are re-assigned based on the outcomes, and the CR remains constant as 1.5%. This work also provides an environmental-based attribute access control system, which adds the strength to the system by providing security and the integrity. So, this proposed work performs as a decision support system combined with the security enhancements, and hence it becomes a complete framework to provide a solution to a target application. The novelty of the proposed work is the combination of the crowdsourcing with the recommender system on a secured framework.
