Position-based services that deliver networked amenities based on roaming users positions have become progressively popular with the propagation of smart mobile devices. Position is one of the important circumstances in Position-based services (PBS). For effective PBS, extraction and recognition of meaningful positions and estimating the subsequent position are fundamental procedures. Several researchers and practitioners have tried to recognize and predict positions using various techniques, however only few deliberate the progress of position-based real-time applications considering significant tasks of PBS. In this paper, a method for conserving position confidentiality of roaming PBS users using machine learning techniques is proposed. We recommend a three-phase procedure for roaming PBS users. It identifies user position by merging decision trees and k-nearest neighbor, and estimates user destination along with position track sequence using hidden Markov models. Moreover, a mobile edge computing service policy is followed in the proposed paradigm which will assure the timely delivery of position-based services at the network edge. The benefits of mobile edge service policy offer position confidentiality and low latency by means of networking and computing services at the vicinity of roaming users. Thorough experiments are conducted and it is confirmed that the proposed method achieved above 90% of the position confidentiality in PBS.
Green energy management is an economical solution for better energy usage, but the employed literature lacks focusing on the potentials of edge intelligence in controllable Internet of Things (IoT). Therefore, in this article, we focus on the requirements of todays’ smart grids, homes, and industries to propose a deep learning based framework for intelligent energy management. We predict future energy consumption for short intervals of time as well as provide an efficient way of communication between energy distributers and consumers. The key contributions include edge devices based real-time energy management via common cloud-based data supervising server, optimal normalization technique selection, and a novel sequence learning based energy forecasting mechanism with reduced time complexity and lowest error rates. In the proposed framework, edge devices relate to a common cloud server in an IoT network that communicates with the associated smart grids to effectively continue the energy demand and response phenomenon. We apply several preprocessing techniques to deal with diverse nature of electricity data, followed by an efficient decision-making algorithm for short-term forecasting and implement it over dependable resource-constrained devices. We perform extensive experiments and witness 0.15 and 3.77 units reduced MSE and RMSE for residential and commercial datasets, respectively.
The paper highlights some of the significant works done in the field of medical and biomedical sensing using silicon-based technology. The use of silicon sensors is one of the pivotal and prolonged techniques employed in a range of healthcare, industrial and environmental applications by virtue of its distinct advantages over other counterparts in Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Among them, the sensors for biomedical applications are one of the most significant ones, which not only assist in improving the quality of human life but also help in the field of microfabrication by imparting knowledge about how to develop enhanced multifunctional sensing prototypes. The paper emphasises the use of silicon, in different forms, to fabricate electrodes and substrates for the sensors that are to be used for biomedical sensing. The electrical conductivity and the mechanical flexibility of silicon vary to a large extent depending on its use in developing prototypes. The article also explains some of the bottlenecks that need to be dealt with in the current scenario, along with some possible remedies. Finally, a brief market survey is given to estimate a probable increase in the usage of silicon in developing a variety of biomedical prototypes in the upcoming years.
