Dr. L. Kirsty Pourshahidi is a Senior Lecturer in Food Science & Technology with responsibilities in the areas of research leadership, teaching, course development and administration. To date, Dr. Pourshahidi has 65+ peer-reviewed publications (Scopus H Index 25; 1950 citations), developed an extensive research network with internationally excellent research centers and secured significant research income of ~GBP 6.3M (PI for approx. GBP 452k) with a strong applied industrial focus, collaborating with many international food companies such as Dunbia, Devenish Nutrition, Humanativ Ltd., Illycaffè, Danone (Nutricia) and Better You. Dr. Pourshahidi is Associate Research Group Leader (for Agri-food and Sustainability) within the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE) and her research expertise spans agri-food nutrition, consumer innovation, vitamin D requirements for health, consumer food choice, nutrition and metabolic health, and nutrition and health in ileostomates. Dr. Pourshahidi has extensive experience in the design, conduct, management and reporting of human trials in a range of population groups, including both food- and nutrient-based randomised controlled trials. As an independent researcher in the Biomedical Sciences Research Institute, Dr. Pourshahidi was returned under the Universities REF submission (REF2014 and REF2021) and has also supervised 12 Ph.D. researchers to completion. In 2023, she won Ulster’s Distinguished Research Champion Award.
