Prof. David W Graham is an Emeritus Professor of Engineering at  Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He received his BASc and  MASc from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada, in  1981, and his PhD from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA, in 1992. Graham was a professor at the University of Kansas from 1993 to  2009 and Newcastle University from 2006 to 2024. Graham has led projects around the world on pollution prevention and surveillance, recently on the environmental spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and other infectious diseases in the emerging world. He co-led the writing of the 2023 UNEP report, “Bracing for Superbugs and co-leads integration on the Quadripartite Guide on One Health Integrated Surveillance of Antimicrobial Use and Resistance." He was a member of the UK Strategic Advisory Group for Emergencies sub-group on COVID-19  Transmission in the Wider Environment and helped operationalize the UK wastewater surveillance network during the pandemic. Graham is a chartered engineer with expertise spanning environmental modeling to microbial genetics. He is a visiting professor at the Chinese  Academy of Sciences and a research professor at Durham University, UK. His current interests include the ecology of environmental disease spread and the use of AI in addressing research and communication gaps that are hindering One Health solutions.
