Ellen Banzhaf is a senior researcher at UFZ – Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research. She has a major focus on urban ecology and its nexus to socio-spatial implications. In remote sensing, her interests are in the quantitative analyses of spatial and temporal urban dynamics. Her expertise is in mapping and monitoring land use and land cover, as well as on object-based image analysis to get a scale-dependent understanding of urban areas and inner urban structures. Ellen tackles questions of urban ecosystem services in the frame of urban resilience and quality of life in cities. In this respect, she takes regional, national, and international contexts into consideration.
