Background: As technology continues to shape society, younger generations are increasingly accustomed to its integration into daily life, making it mandatory for medical educators to adopt innovative tools like virtual reality (VR). This systematic review examines the efficacy of VR in obstetric training and patient care, focusing on its impact on educational engagement, procedural skill acquisition, and pain management in obstetric patients. Methods: A systematic review of the current literature was conducted using databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Clinicaltrials.gov analyzing randomized controlled studies on VR’s use in obstetric training and patient care. Inclusion criteria focused on studies evaluating VR’s role in enhancing clinical skills, and pain and anxiety management during labor and procedures. Only randomized controlled trials published in English were considered. The risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2 for RCTs. Data extraction and quality appraisal were performed independently by two reviewers. Results: A total of 18 studies met the inclusion criteria. Among them, 13 studies focused on VR for pain relief and anxiety reduction, and 5 studies on medical training and skill acquisition. Most studies used immersive VR headsets, while some utilized interactive VR or serious gaming platforms. Adverse effects such as motion sickness and visual discomfort were reported in a few cases but did not significantly impact participant engagement. Conclusions: VR holds the potential to improve obstetric training and patient care by aligning with the learning preferences of younger generations and enhancing both educational and patient care experiences. However, heterogeneity in sample sizes, participants, and intervention types limits generalizability. Further large-scale, high-quality RCTs are needed to validate findings and standardize VR applications in obstetrics. This review was registered in PROSPERO (Registration ID: CRD42024619197).

Endometriosis is characterized by alterations of the action and control mechanisms that lead to the development of ectopic endometrial tissue. This study aimed to analyze the molecular profile of ectopic endometrium by evaluating the expression of several biomarkers [estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, and Ki-67 antigen] in relation to the stage of the disease and symptoms. A prospective study over a period of one year, consisting of 14 patients with endometriosis, was performed. All patients received laparoscopic surgical treatment for excision of the lesions and staging of the disease. The expression of the aforementioned biomarkers was assessed in the ectopic endometrial tissue from the excised lesions using immunohistochemistry to determine their expression in the glandular epithelium and stroma. The mean expression of biomarkers in the epithelial and stromal levels did not differ significantly based on disease stage. Epithelial ER expression was significantly positively correlated with stromal ER, epithelial PR, and stromal PR. Stromal ER was significantly positively correlated with epithelial PR and stromal Ki-67. Epithelial Bcl-2 was significantly positively correlated with stromal Bcl-2. Epithelial Ki-67 was significantly positively correlated with stromal Ki-67. Finally, epithelial Bcl-2 expression was significantly positively correlated with the intensity of dyspareunia. The correlation between epithelial Bcl-2 expression and the intensity of dyspareunia highlights a potential molecular link to the severity of symptoms in endometriosis. These results suggest that further exploration of these biomarkers could lead to improved understanding of their clinical implications and more personalized therapies for patients with endometriosis.

Background/Objectives: Diet is a primary and modifiable determinant of gut microbiota composition, diversity, and metabolic activity, thereby shaping microbial-derived metabolites, immune and inflammatory signalling, neuroendocrine regulation, and neural communication with the central nervous system. Western dietary patterns, characterised by high intake of ultra-processed foods, saturated fats, and low dietary fibre, are consistently associated with gut dysbiosis, impaired intestinal barrier function, chronic low-grade inflammation, and increased risk of depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment, and neurodegenerative disorders. Methods: This narrative review synthesises evidence from human observational studies, randomised controlled trials, animal models, and mechanistic investigations examining interactions among diet, gut microbiota, and mental health or neurobiological outcomes. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science for articles published up to December 2025. Results: The study highlights the therapeutic potential and limitations of dietary interventions, prebiotics, probiotics, and psychobiotics, and critically evaluates them. Also facilitates an improved understanding of diet–microbiome–brain interactions, which may help the development of personalised, nutrition-based strategies integrated into mental health prevention and clinical care. Conclusions: These findings support diet-based, microbiome-informed strategies as scalable adjuncts in mental health prevention and care.

Endometriosis is a non-malignant, inflammatory condition that impacts individuals across various hormonal stages, including before their first menstruation, throughout their reproductive years, and after menopause. This condition arises when tissue resembling the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, resulting in inflammation and a range of symptoms, such as dysmenorrhea, pain during intercourse, chronic discomfort, and challenges with fertility. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the medical strategies implemented to address the pathology of endometriosis, highlighting its significant impact on the quality of life of the individuals affected by this condition. Endometriosis can influence various aspects of life, including physical health, emotional well-being, social interactions, and professional performance. Usually, to assess the quality of life in women with endometriosis, validated instruments, such as different questionnaire types, are used to measure the physical, psychological, social, and reproductive health impacts. To improve the quality of life of the women experiencing endometriosis, several supportive strategies are proposed. The findings underscore the necessity of managing endometriosis through a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses both medical and surgical interventions, lifestyle modifications, and psychological support.

Background/Objectives: Pregnancy-associated cancer (PAC) presents significant challenges for maternal and neonatal health, and yet its impact on neonatal outcomes remains poorly understood. This systematic review aims to evaluate the neonatal risks associated with PAC. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and other databases was conducted up to 1 November 2024, identifying observational studies and randomized controlled trials assessing neonatal outcomes in pregnancies affected by PAC. Outcomes included preterm birth, low birthweight, macrosomia, small and large for gestational age, low Apgar score, congenital anomalies, and neonatal mortality. Results: Eleven high-quality studies encompassing over 46 million births, including 9953 PAC-affected pregnancies, were reviewed. PAC significantly increased the risks of preterm birth (adjusted ORs ranging from 1.48 to 6.34) and low birthweight (adjusted ORs up to 5.5). Other adverse outcomes included low Apgar scores and neonatal mortality, primarily linked to prematurity. Cancer type and treatment timing influenced these outcomes, with gynecological and breast cancers posing higher risks. Conclusions: Neonates of mothers with PAC face increased risks of adverse outcomes, underscoring the importance of tailored, multidisciplinary management. Further prospective studies are needed to clarify the impacts of specific cancer treatments during pregnancy.

Context: The increasing incidence of secondary caries and the failure of restorations have intensified research into dental restorative materials capable of actively interacting with the oral environment. In this context, antibacterial and bioregenerative nanomaterials have attracted growing scientific interest due to their potential to inhibit biofilm formation while simultaneously supporting mineral repair processes. Objective: This narrative review analyzes recent developments in nanostructured materials for restorative dentistry and oral health applications, with particular emphasis on antibacterial agents, bioactive systems, and emerging dual-function approaches that integrate multiple biological functions into restorative materials. Scope of the Review: The analyzed literature indicates that metallic nanoparticles, cationic monomers, and natural nanopolymers can reduce bacterial adhesion and metabolic activity under experimental conditions. In parallel, bioactive nanomaterials such as nanohydroxyapatite, bioactive glass, and calcium phosphate-based systems have demonstrated the ability to release remineralizing ions and to promote mineral deposition at the tooth–material interface. Dual-function hybrid materials aim to combine these antibacterial and bioregenerative effects within a single restorative system. Interpretative Perspective: Despite these advances, most available evidence derives from in vitro and preclinical studies, with significant heterogeneity across experimental models, evaluation methods, and outcome variables. This variability limits direct comparisons between studies and necessitates a cautious interpretation of claims regarding long-term antibacterial efficacy, functional tissue regeneration, and routine clinical applicability. Conclusions: Antibacterial and bioregenerative nanomaterials represent a relevant and continuously evolving research direction in restorative dentistry. Their successful clinical translation will depend on establishing standardized testing protocols, conducting comprehensive safety assessments, and generating clinically relevant evidence supporting long-term efficacy and biological compatibility.
