In recent years, growing concern about climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have highlighted the role of energy efficiency and sustainability on the global agenda. Energy policies are decisive in establishing regulatory frameworks and incentives to address these challenges, leading to an inclusive and more resilient energy transition. In this context, geothermal energy is an essential source of renewable, low-emission energy, capable of providing heat and electricity sustainably. The present research focuses on a bioclimatic house’s geothermal energy system based on a heating pump and a horizontal heat exchanger. The main aim is to predict the generated thermal power of the heat pump using historical data from several sensors. In particular, two approaches were proposed with both uni-variate and multi-variate scenarios. Several deep learning techniques were applied: LSTM, GRU, 1D-CNN, CNN-LSTM, and CNN-GRU, obtaining satisfactory results over the whole dataset, which comprised one year of data acquisition. Specifically, promising results have been achieved using hybrid methods combining recurrent-based and convolutional neural networks.

Growing dependence on fossil fuels is one of the critical factors accelerating climate change, a global concern that can destabilize ecosystems and economies worldwide. In this context, renewable energy is emerging as a sustainable and environmentally responsible alternative. Among the options, geothermal energy stands out for its ability to provide heat and electricity consistently and efficiently, offering a feasible solution to reduce the carbon footprint and promote more sustainable development in a globalized economy. In this work, a machine learning approach is proposed to predict the behavior of a horizontal heat exchanger from a bioclimatic house. First, a correlation analysis was conducted for optimal feature selection. Then, several regression techniques were applied to predict the output temperature of the geothermal exchanger. Satisfactory prediction results were obtained in different scenarios over the whole dataset. Also, a significant correlation between several sensors was concluded.

The increasing importance of water quality has led to optimizing the operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants. This implies the monitoring of many parameters that measure aspects such as solid suspension, conductivity, or chemical components, among others. This paper proposes the use of one-class algorithms to learn the normal behavior of a Wastewater Treatment Plants and detect situations in which the crucial parameters of Chemical Oxygen Demand, Ammonia, and Kjeldahl Nitrogen present unexpected deviations. The classifiers are tested using different deviations, achieving successful results. The final supervision systems are capable of detecting critical situation, contributing to decision-making and maintenance effectiveness.

The digitalization of shipbuilding processes has become an important trend in modern naval construction, enabling more efficient design, assembly, and maintenance operations. A key aspect of this digital transformation is traceability, which ensures that every component and step in the shipbuilding process can be accurately tracked and managed. Traceability is critical for quality assurance, safety, and operational efficiency, especially when it comes to identifying and addressing defects that may arise during construction. In this context, defect traceability plays a key role, enabling manufacturers to track the origin, type, and evolution of issues throughout the production process, which are fundamental for maintaining structural integrity and preventing failures. In this paper, we focus on the detection of defects in minor and simple pre-assemblies, which are among the smallest components that form the building blocks of ship assemblies. These components are essential to the larger shipbuilding process, yet their defects can propagate and lead to more significant issues in the overall assembly if left unaddressed. For that reason, we propose an intelligent approach to defect detection in minor and simple pre-assembly pieces by implementing unsupervised learning with convolutional autoencoders (CAEs). Specifically, we evaluate the performance of five different CAEs: BaseLineCAE, InceptionCAE, SkipCAE, ResNetCAE, and MVTecCAE, to detect overshooting defects in these components. Our methodology focuses on automated defect identification, providing a scalable and efficient solution to quality control in the shipbuilding process.
