In the context of Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing services put forward the requirement of rapid response in the remaining useful life (RUL) of machinery. To achieve fast-responding and highly accurate RUL prediction services while mining the intra-kernel correlations of the sensor monitoring data, a deep learning-based cloud–edge collaboration framework was proposed in this article. We encapsulated a cloud prediction engine (Cloud-PE) with a deep prediction model in the cloud service layer and an edge prediction engine (Edge-PE) with a shallow prediction model in the edge service layer. The Cloud-PE assisted the Edge-PE in achieving fast and highly accurate RUL prediction by sharing depth model parameters. Both prediction models were constructed on the basis of a novel blueprint separable convolution neural network. To continuously improve the performance of Edge-PE in a context-aware manner, we adopted an update method for the Edge-PE with the assistance of the Cloud-PE. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed framework can provide more accurate RUL prediction than existing data-driven prediction methods, and the training time of the prediction model is also significantly reduced.
Assembly process designers typically confront the challenge of seeking information out of large volumes of non-structured files with a view to supporting the decision-making to be made. It is a leading concern that embedding data in text documents can hardly be retrieved semantically in order to facilitate decision-making with timely support. For tackling this gap, we propose in this paper a knowledge graph-based approach used to merge and retrieve information decided to be relevant within an engineering context. The proposed approach is to establish a multidimensional integrated assembly resource knowledge graph (ARKG) based on the structure of function-structure-assembly procedure-assembly resource, and this multidimensional integrated structure can well accomplish the retrieval of related knowledge. The upper semantic framework of ARKG is established by the assembly resource ontology model, which is a semantic-type framework involving multiple domains of knowledge to create instantiated data reflecting the full profile of the assembly resource for obtaining structured data of ARKG while avoiding the data redundancy problem. The ARKG method is validated through assembly scenario of the aircraft, and the results show the effectiveness and accuracy of the ARKG used by the assembly process designer in the assembly process design phase for retrieving the target knowledge of the assembly resources.
In today’s complex, constantly evolving and innovation-supporting manufacturing systems, knowledge plays a vital role in sustainable manufacturing process planning and problem-solving, especially in the case of Computer-Aided Process Innovation (CAPI). To obtain formalized and promising process innovation knowledge under the open innovation paradigm, it is necessary to evaluate candidate knowledge and encourage improvement suggestions based on actual innovation situations. This paper proposes a process innovation-oriented knowledge evaluation approach using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) and fuzzy linguistic computing. Firstly, a comprehensive hierarchy evaluation index system for process innovation knowledge is designed. Secondly, by combining an analytic hierarchy process with fuzzy linguistic computing, a comprehensive criteria weighting determination method is applied to effectively aggregate the evaluation of criteria weights for each criterion and corresponding sub-criteria. Furthermore, fuzzy linguistic evaluations of performance ratings for each criterion and corresponding sub-criteria are calculated. Thus, a process innovation knowledge comprehensive value can be determined. Finally, an illustrative example of knowledge capture, evaluation and knowledge-inspired process problem solving for micro-turbine machining is presented to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach. It is expected that our model would lay the foundation for knowledge-driven CAPI in sustainable manufacturing.
