Internet of medical things (IoMT) has made it possible to collect applications and medical devices to improve healthcare information technology. Since the advent of the pandemic of coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2019, public health information has become more sensitive than ever. Moreover, different news items incorporated have resulted in differing public perceptions of COVID-19, especially on the social media platform and infrastructure. In addition, the unprecedented virality and changing nature of COVID-19 makes call centres to be likely overstressed, which is due to a lack of authentic and unregulated public media information. Furthermore, the lack of data privacy has restricted the sharing of COVID-19 information among health institutions. To resolve the above-mentioned limitations, this paper is proposing a privacy infrastructure based on federated learning and blockchain. The proposed infrastructure has the potentials to enhance the trust and authenticity of public media to disseminate COVID-19 information. Also, the proposed infrastructure can effectively provide a shared model while preserving the privacy of data owners. Furthermore, information security and privacy analyses show that the proposed infrastructure is robust against information security-related attacks.

A smart energy management controller can improve energy efficiency, save energy costs, and reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption while accurately catering to consumer consumption habits. Having integrated various renewable energy systems (RESs) and a battery storage system (BSS), we proposed an optimization-based demand-side management (DSM) scheduler and energy management controller (SEMC) for a smart home. The suggested SEMC creates a DSM-based operational plan regarding user-centered and comfort-aware preferences. Using the generated appliances operation plan, consumers can reduce energy costs, carbon emissions, peak-to-average ratio (PAR), improve their comfort in terms of thermal, illumination, and appliances usage preferences. A schedule for residential consumers is suggested using ant colony optimization (ACO), teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO), Jaya algorithm, rainfall algorithm, firefly algorithm, and our hybrid ACO and TLBO optimization (ACTLBO) algorithm. Five existing algorithms-based frameworks validate the DSM framework that relies on ACTLBO. The results validate that the integration of RESs and BSS, and adapting our proposed algorithm and SEMC under demand response program real-time price reduced the energy bill costs, PAR and CO 2 in Case I: only external grid (EG) usage by 42.14%, 22.05%, and 28.33%, in Case II: EG with RESs by 21.79%, 11.27%, 17.02%, and in Case III: EG with RESs and BSS by 28.76%, 41.53%, 21.86%, respectively as compared to without employing SEMC. Moreover, the user-comfort (UC) improvement index-ratio with scheduling using ACTLBO is 7.77%, 24.73%, 5.00%, and 3.43% in aspects of indoor air quality, average delay, thermal, and visual, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed DSM-based framework outperforms existing frameworks to reduce energy cost, reduce carbon emission, mitigate peak loads, and improve UC.

Presently, the advancements in the electric system, smart meters, and implementation of renewable energy sources (RES) have yielded extensive changes to the current power grid. This technological innovation in the power grid enhances the generation of electricity to meet the demands of industrial, commercial and residential sectors. However, the industrial sectors are the focus of power grid and its demand-side management (DSM) activities. Neglecting other sectors in the DSM activities can deteriorate the total performance of the power grid. Hence, the notion of DSM and demand response by way of the residential sector makes the smart grid preferable to the current power grid. In this circumstance, this paper proposes a home energy management system (HEMS) that considered the residential sector in DSM activities and the integration of RES and energy storage system (ESS). The proposed HEMS reduces the electricity cost through scheduling of household appliances and ESS in response to the time-of-use (ToU) and critical peak price (CPP) of the electricity market. The proposed HEMS is implemented using the Earliglow based algorithm. For comparative analysis, the simulation results of the proposed method are compared with other methods: Jaya algorithm, enhanced differential evolution and strawberry algorithm. The simulation results of Earliglow based optimization method show that the integration of RES and ESS can provide electricity cost savings up to 62.80% and 20.89% for CPP and ToU. In addition, electricity cost reduction up to 43.25% and 13.83% under the CPP and ToU market prices, respectively.

As data sharing on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) become more complicated, the problems of divergent interests, unregulated policies, privacy and security, and the resource constraints of data owners have drawn the attention of researchers. To address the problems, this paper provides resource management in the IoMT using a proposed edge-empowered blockchain federated learning system. Also, an improved linear regressor model is proposed as the global learning model for the federated learning system. Gradient parameters are encrypted using Paillier encryption on the federated server side before they are shared by the federated clients. Blockchain is deployed to provide new security features for IoMT and edge computing. Moreover, all transactions of IoMT and edge devices are stored on the blockchain for secure cataloguing and auditing. Edge computing is employed to handle complex computing tasks on behalf of IoMT devices. Extensive simulations are conducted to validate the efficacy of the proposed system model. The results show that computing costs are minimized while still achieving the benefits of security and privacy in the proposed system. Furthermore, security analysis shows that the proposed system is protected from security attacks.

Over the last decades, load forecasting is used by power companies to balance energy demand and supply. Among the several load forecasting methods, medium-term load forecasting is necessary for grid’s maintenance planning, settings of electricity prices, and harmonizing energy sharing arrangement. The forecasting of the month ahead electrical loads provides the information required for the interchange of energy among power companies. For accurate load forecasting, this paper proposes a model for medium-term load forecasting that uses hourly electrical load and temperature data to predict month ahead hourly electrical loads. For data preprocessing, modified entropy mutual information-based feature selection is used. It eliminates the redundancy and irrelevancy of features from the data. We employ the conditional restricted Boltzmann machine (CRBM) for the load forecasting. A meta-heuristic optimization algorithm Jaya is used to improve the CRBM’s accuracy rate and convergence. In addition, the consumers’ dynamic consumption behaviors are also investigated using a discrete-time Markov chain and an adaptive k-means is used to group their behaviors into clusters. We evaluated the proposed model using GEFCom2012 US utility dataset. Simulation results confirm that the proposed model achieves better accuracy, fast convergence, and low execution time as compared to other existing models in the literature.
