Using salt caverns for an underground strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) is considered as an ideal approach due to the excellent characteristics of low porosity, low permeability, self-healing of damage, and strong plastic deformation ability of rock salt. Salt deposits in China are mostly layered rock salt structures, with the characteristics of many interlayers, bringing great challenges for the construction of SPR facilities. Studying the microscopic pore characteristics of the rock surrounding SPR salt caverns in different environments (with brine and crude oil erosion) is necessary because the essence of mechanical and permeability characteristics is the macroscopic embodiment of the microscopic pore structure. In this paper, XRD tests and SEM tests are carried out to determine the physical properties of storage media and surrounding rock. Gas adsorption tests and mercury intrusion tests are carried out to analyze the microscopic pore structure, specific surface area variation and total aperture distribution characteristics of SPR salt cavern host rock. Results show that: (1) Large numbers of cores in interlayer and caprock may provide favorable channels for the leakage of high-pressure crude oil and brine. (2) The blockage of pores by macromolecular organic matter (colloid and asphaltene) in crude oil will not significantly change the structural characteristics of the rock skeleton, which is beneficial to the long-term operation of the SPR salt cavern. (3) The water–rock interaction will bring obvious changes in the micro-pore structure of rock and increase the leakage risk of the storage medium. The results can provide theoretical bases and methods for the tightness analysis of China’s first underground SPR salt cavern.

Coal-rock interface identification technology was pivotal in automatically adjusting the shearer’s cutting drum during coal mining. However, it also served as a technical bottleneck hindering the advancement of intelligent coal mining. This study aimed to address the poor accuracy of current coal-rock identification technology on comprehensive working faces, coupled with the limited availability of coal-rock datasets. The loss function of the SegFormer model was enhanced, the model’s hyperparameters and learning rate were adjusted, and an automatic recognition method was proposed for coal-rock interfaces based on FL-SegFormer. Additionally, an experimental platform was constructed to simulate the dusty environment during coal-rock cutting by the shearer, enabling the collection of coal-rock test image datasets. The morphology-based algorithms were employed to expand the coal-rock image datasets through image rotation, color dithering, and Gaussian noise injection so as to augment the diversity and applicability of the datasets. As a result, a coal-rock image dataset comprising 8424 samples was generated. The findings demonstrated that the FL-SegFormer model achieved a Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) and mean pixel accuracy (MPA) of 97.72% and 98.83%, respectively. The FL-SegFormer model outperformed other models in terms of recognition accuracy, as evidenced by an MIoU exceeding 95.70% of the original image. Furthermore, the FL-SegFormer model using original coal-rock images was validated from No. 15205 working face of the Yulin test mine in northern Shaanxi. The calculated average error was only 1.77%, and the model operated at a rate of 46.96 frames per second, meeting the practical application and deployment requirements in underground settings. These results provided a theoretical foundation for achieving automatic and efficient mining with coal mining machines and the intelligent development of coal mines.

Gas fracturing technology for enhancing rock permeability is an area with considerable potential for development. However, the complexity and variability of underground conditions mean that a variety of rock physical parameters can affect the outcome of gas fracturing, with temperature being a critical factor that cannot be overlooked. The presence of a temperature field adds further complexity to the process of gas-induced rock fracturing. To explore the effects of temperature fields on gas fracturing technology, this paper employs numerical simulation software to model the extraction of shale gas under different temperature conditions using gas fracturing techniques. The computer simulations monitor variations in the mechanical characteristics of rocks during the process of gas fracturing. This analysis is performed both prior to and following the implementation of a temperature field. The results demonstrate that gas fracturing technology significantly improves rock permeability; temperature has an impact on the effectiveness of gas fracturing, with appropriately high temperatures capable of enhancing the fracturing effect. The temperature distribution plays a crucial role in influencing the results of gas fracturing. When the temperature is low, the fracturing effect is diminished, resulting in a lower efficiency of shale gas extraction. Conversely, when the temperature is high, the fracturing effect is more pronounced, leading to a higher shale gas production efficiency. Optimal temperatures can enhance the efficacy of gas fracturing and consequently boost the efficiency of shale gas extraction. Changes in the parameters of the rock have a substantial impact on the efficiency of gas extraction, and selecting suitable rock parameters can enhance the recovery rate of shale gas. This paper, through numerical simulation, investigates the influence of temperature on gas fracturing technology, with the aim of contributing to its improved application in engineering practices.

Salt cavern storage, characterized by its safety, stability, large scale, economic viability, and efficiency, stands out as a cost-effective and relatively secure method for large-scale petroleum reserves. This paper provides an overview of the current development status of salt cavern storage technologies both domestically and internationally, analyzes the advantageous conditions and numerous challenges faced by salt cavern Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) storage in China, and forecasts the development trends of this technology. The conclusions indicate that China possesses all of the necessary conditions for the development of salt cavern storage. Moreover, utilizing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), a macro suitability hierarchical evaluation system is constructed for the site selection and construction of salt cavern storage facilities. This system quantifies various site selection indicators, integrating expert opinions and findings from relevant theoretical research to establish grading standards for the suitability indices of salt cavern storage construction. Applied to the site evaluation of salt cavern storage at the Jintan Salt Mine in Jiangsu, the results indicate its high suitability for storage construction, making it an ideal location for establishing such facilities. The evaluation results are consistent with expert opinions, demonstrating the rationality of this method.
