Introduction. Integrated health care is a concept widely used in the planning and organisation of nursing care. It is a highly topical concept, but at the same time it is deeply rooted in the theory and models of Nursing right from its inception as a science. There is no clear, agreed definition that describes it. Objective. To systematise the knowledge available on the concept of "comprehensive care" in Nursing from the point of view of nursing care, its domains and characteristics. Methods. A literature search has been carried out in several languages (Spanish, Portuguese, English and Romanian) in the databases Web of Science, Scopus, Medline, PubMed, Cochrane and Dialnet, covering the period between 2013 and 2019. The search terms used were: comprehensive health care, health and nursing. Prospero register 170327. Results. Sixteen documents were identified, which grouped 8 countries, mainly Brazil, being thecountry with the highest output on this context– 10 documents were found within the qualitative paradigm and 6 quantitative ones. The concept "Comprehensive" ; is commonly used to refer to comprehensive nursing care techniques, protocols, programmes and plans, covering care in all aspects of the individual as a complement to or independent of the clinical needs arising from health care. Conclusion. The definition of features pertaining to the concept "Comprehensive Care" ; encourages the use and standardisation of nursing care plans, improving patient follow-up, the detection of new risk factors, complications and new health problems not related to the reason for admission. This increases the capacity for prevention and improves the patient’s quality of life, and their primary and/or family caregivers, which translates into lower costs in the health system.

Aim: The aim of the study was to understand the experiences of patients on automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) during the period of confinement due to the COVID‐19 pandemic.Design: Qualitative exploratory study, phenomenological through semi‐structured telephone interview.Method: A priori sampling was carried out with patients on APD with remote monitoring and telephone follow‐up, in 13 hospitals in Mexico. Results: Twenty‐nine informants, mean age 45.41 ± 16.93; 15 women and 14 men. The analysis revealed four categories of analysis: home isolation, clinical follow‐up, socioeconomic challenges and infodemic. The experiences of these patients led them to somatize emotions, presenting symptoms such as anxiety, sadness, loneliness, sleep, eating and digestive disorders, situation that sets the tone for future research on telemedicine care models, coping styles, emotional support strategies and socioeconomic impact on patients with chronic home treatments during the pandemic.

Background: Oxidative stress (OS) is a key biological mechanism influencing surgical recovery, contributing to impaired healing, infectious complications, cardiovascular events, and mortality. This umbrella review aimed to synthesize evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analyses exclusively focused on the relationship between validated oxidative stress biomarkers and postoperative outcomes. Narrative and non-systematic reviews were excluded. Methods: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted on 15 March 2024 and updated on 12 December 2024 to identify systematic reviews and meta-analyses including adult surgical patients, validated oxidative stress biomarkers, and clinical outcomes. Methodological quality was evaluated with AMSTAR 2 and ROBIS. The SANRA checklist was used only to verify that narrative or bibliometric reviews did not meet the inclusion criteria. These non-systematic reviews were excluded from the synthesis and cited solely as contextual references. Findings: From 527 records, ten systematic reviews of moderate to high methodological quality were included, encompassing approximately 230 primary studies. The most frequently reported biomarkers were total antioxidant capacity (TAC), glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG). Lower TAC, GSH, and SOD levels were consistently associated with poor recovery and multiorgan dysfunction, whereas elevated MDA and 8-OHdG levels correlated with infectious complications, delayed healing, cardiovascular events, persistent pain, and mortality. Antioxidant-based interventions such as vitamin C, N-acetylcysteine, and propofol showed heterogeneous but promising effects, particularly in high-risk surgical populations. The main limitations were the heterogeneity of biomarkers, variability in perioperative protocols, and partial overlap of primary evidence across reviews. Interpretation: The findings were organized into three main clinical domains: (1) infectious complications and impaired healing; (2) cardiovascular and systemic complications; and (3) predictive and prognostic value of OS biomarkers for perioperative risk assessment. This thematic synthesis integrates evidence across different surgical specialties, highlighting consistent mechanistic patterns and key research gaps to inform future investigations and clinical decision-making.

Introduction: Competences assessment is an important issue, playing a key role in higher education. It is necessary to have an evaluation instrument that meet validity and reliability criteria and can be used in different clinical scenarios for professional performance measurement. For this reason, we set ourselves the following objective: Establishing the intra- and inter-observer concordance of a scale for the evaluation of nursing competencies (ECOEnf) in Spain. Material and method An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the reliability of the “ECOEnf” scale using intra- and inter-observer analysis. Kendall's Tau-b non-parametric test was used for establishing correlation, applied to the same population, at the same time, by 2 different observers. Results: Intra-observer concordance was obtained an excellent degree of internal consistency (r=0.98), Regarding inter-observer concordance, few items had a correlation lower than 0.5. However, all items display a sound statistically significant reliability with a p-value <0.05. Conclusion: In general, when establishing the correlation between the results of the instrument measured twice by different observers at the same time, was found a statistically good concordance. For this reason, it is regarded as a reliable instrument to be used in the evaluation of nursing competencies.

To evaluate the most effective development methods for mobile applications that support self-management of non-communicable diseases and to determine the features that enhance their effectiveness and user adoption. The design was a systematic review of research papers published in the period 2019-2024. The review included randomized and quasi-experimental clinical trials. The search was performed in six databases (PubMed, Scopus, Scielo, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Clinical Trials). Bias and methodological quality were assessed using the RoB2 and MINORS tools. The review included six studies involving 2421 patients across four countries. The applications demonstrated improvements in treatment adherence, self-efficacy, and control of clinical variables such as glycemia and blood pressure. The most effective applications incorporated therapeutic education, monitoring, and reminders. However, limitations were noted, including insufficient user involvement in early development stages, which could affect relevance and usability. The heterogeneity of study designs and populations, coupled with the lack of large-scale clinical trials, limits the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, variability in technological platforms and the absence of standardized evaluation metrics complicate outcome comparisons. Mobile applications for chronic disease self-management are most effective when developed with a user-centered approach and continuous validation. Despite these findings, further research is necessary to generalize the results and optimize the integration of these applications into healthcare systems. CRD42024571644.
