Prof. Paola Palanza is a Professor (Full) at the Unit of Neuroscience, Department of Medicine & Surgery, University of Parma (Italy). She obtained her degree in Biological Sciences (110/110 summa cum laude) from the University of Parma in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Animal Biology (Ethology) from the University of Firenze in 1992. Then, she served as a post-doctoral at the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Venice, Italy from 1993 to 1995. Subsequently, she took the position of an Assistant Professor of Biology at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Parma (1996–1999), an Assistant Professor in Ethology at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Bologna (1999–2004), a Researcher (Zoology) at the University of Parma (1999–2000), and an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Parma (2000–2016). Her main research topics are the effects of developmental exposure to estrogenic endocrine disrupters on reproduction, behavior, and metabolism; gene–environment interactions in behavioral development; sex differences in behavior and reproductive strategies: neuroendocrine bases and adaptive significance; social stress models and vulnerability to psychiatric and metabolic disorders; social organization of mice colonies in artificial territories and female competitive strategies; and ethology and animal welfare.
