Lung cancer (LC) is one of the most serious cancers threatening human health. Histopathological examination is the gold standard for qualitative and clinical staging of lung tumors. However, the process for doctors to examine thousands of histopathological images is very cumbersome, especially for doctors with less experience. Therefore, objective pathological diagnosis results can effectively help doctors choose the most appropriate treatment mode, thereby improving the survival rate of patients. For the current problem of incomplete experimental subjects in the computer-aided diagnosis of lung cancer subtypes, this study included relatively rare lung adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) samples for the first time, and proposed a computer-aided diagnosis method based on histopathological images of ASC, lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). Firstly, the multidimensional features of 121 LC histopathological images were extracted, and then the relevant features (Relief) algorithm was used for feature selection. The support vector machines (SVMs) classifier was used to classify LC subtypes, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to make it more intuitive evaluate the generalization ability of the classifier. Finally, through a horizontal comparison with a variety of mainstream classification models, experiments show that the classification effect achieved by the Relief-SVM model is the best. The LUSC-ASC classification accuracy was 73.91%, the LUSC-SCLC classification accuracy was 83.91% and the ASC-SCLC classification accuracy was 73.67%. Our experimental results verify the potential of the auxiliary diagnosis model constructed by machine learning (ML) in the diagnosis of LC.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a malignant tumor that seriously threatens the survival of patients. Artificial classification has practical difficulties, such as unstable classification accuracy, a heavy workload, and the classification results depend on the subjective judgment of the clinician during the diagnosis and staging of PC. In addition, accurate PC staging could better help clinicians deliver the optimal therapeutic schedule for PC patients of different stages. Therefore, this study proposes a comprehensive medical computer-aided method for preoperative diagnosis and staging of PC based on an ensemble learning-support vector machine (EL-SVM) and computed tomography (CT) images. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was chosen for feature selection. In contrast to no feature selection, the model optimization time decreased by 19.94 seconds while maintaining precision. The EL-SVM learner was used to classify 168 CT images of normal pancreas and different stages of PC. The experimental results demonstrated that the normal pancreas (normal)-pancreatic cancer early stage (early stage) classification accuracy was 86.61%, the normal-pancreatic cancer stage III (stage III) classification accuracy was 87.04%, the normal-pancreatic cancer stage IV (stage IV) classification accuracy was 91.63%, the normal-PC classification accuracy was 87.89%, the early stage-stage III classification accuracy was 75.03%, and the early stage-stage IV classification accuracy was 81.22%, and the stage III-stage IV classification accuracy was 82.48%. Our experimental results prove that our proposed method is feasible and promising for clinical applications for the preoperative diagnosis and staging of PC via CT images.

Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor that threatens women's health and life. Cervical pathology examination, as the gold standard for cervical cancer diagnosis, provides an important basis for the surgical plan and postoperative follow-up strategy for cervical cancer. Cervical biopsy diagnosis includes normal, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). At present, cervical pathology examination still relies on the doctor's personal clinical experience and subjective judgment, which is time-consuming and may cause misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis. In addition, the current intelligent classification of cervical pathological images still has disadvantages such as imperfect classification system and low classification accuracy. Therefore, this experiment uses the ResNet50 model of the convolutional neural network as the feature extractor, and selects the K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers in Machine Learning to perform cervical tissue pathological images Discrimination, the accuracy of the classification results were 85.83%, 80.33%, and 86.67%. In order to further improve the accuracy of the model and enhance the applicability and stability of the model, this experiment proposes the Stacked Generalization (SK) classification model. The first-layer base learner of the SK classification model selects CNN-KNN, CNN-RF, CNN-SVM, and the second-layer classifier selects Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). Among them, MLP makes the final result by learning the classification performance of the base learner for label discrimination, the accuracy of the classification model after ensemble learning is 90.00%. In addition, this experiment uses the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) algorithm to amplify the training samples, and the amplified data set has a classification accuracy of 89.17% under the training of the SK classification model. The results show that the SK classification model in this experiment has a high classification ability for cervical histopathological images, and has good generalization ability and robustness.

Liver cancer is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality, which has a tremendous negative impact on human survival. However, it is a challenging task to recognize tens of thousands of histopathological images of liver cancer by naked eye, which poses numerous challenges to inexperienced clinicians. In addition, factors such as long time-consuming, tedious work and huge number of images impose a great burden on clinical diagnosis. Therefore, our study combines convolutional neural networks with histopathology images and adopts a feature fusion approach to help clinicians efficiently discriminate the differentiation types of primary hepatocellular carcinoma histopathology images, thus improving their diagnostic efficiency and relieving their work pressure. In this study, for the first time, 73 patients with different differentiation types of primary liver cancer tumors were classified. We performed an adequate classification evaluation of liver cancer differentiation types using four pre-trained deep convolutional neural networks and nine different machine learning (ML) classifiers on a dataset of liver cancer histopathology images with multiple differentiation types. And the test set accuracy, validation set accuracy, running time with different strategies, precision, recall and F1 value were used for adequate comparative evaluation. Proved by experimental results, fusion networks (FuNet) structure is a good choice, which covers both channel attention and spatial attention, and suppresses channel interference with less information. Meanwhile, it can clarify the importance of each spatial location by learning the weights of different locations in space, then apply it to the study of classification of multi-differentiated types of liver cancer. In addition, in most cases, the Stacking-based integrated learning classifier outperforms other ML classifiers in the classification task of multi-differentiation types of liver cancer with the FuNet fusion strategy after dimensionality reduction of the fused features by principle component analysis (PCA) features, and a satisfactory result of 72.46% is achieved in the test set, which has certain practicality.

Brain segmentation, a crucial research area in medical image processing, plays a vital role in assisting doctors with diagnosing and treating various neurological disorders. The brain consists of multiple tissues and structures, resulting in differential representation across different imaging modalities. This makes it challenging to achieve effective segmentation of image information within a single modality. Therefore, we propose the multimodal brain segmentation method Selective Modality Segmentation Network (SEL-Net), which combines information from multiple image modalities and adopts a method based on a spatial attention mechanism that can integrate multi-modal image information, adaptively adjusts the weights of each modality using a spatial attention mechanism, and optimizes it through different loss function ratios. Different loss function ratios can balance the influence of different modalities, thereby improving the performance and robustness of the model. In the BraTs2019 dataset, SEL-Net proves its effectiveness and superiority, and SEL-Net achieves better results in the metrics of Dice coefficient, sensitivity and specificity. This indicates that SEL-Net has great potential in multimodal brain segmentation, which can provide more accurate and reliable results for medical diagnosis and treatment.
