This article discusses the main technologies for processing titanium-containing raw materials, the advantages, and disadvantages of various technological solutions. The analysis of the literature revealed that the traditional methods for the production of titanium products are mainly focused on the use of ilmenite concentrates. In connection with the depletion of ilmenite deposits, in the near future, there will inevitably be a need for a switch to the use of complex ores – titanomagnetite. Obtaining titanium dioxide (TiO2) from titanomagnetite raw materials with a high content of impurity components requires an individual approach for each specific deposit. The possibility of further improving the development of a technological process for low-temperature (1000–1200 °C) processing of titanomagnetite concentrates via the production of pure TiO2 is proposed.

The purpose of the work is demetallization and desulfurization of heavy oil residues using adsorbents. Optimal parameters of the demetallization and desulfurization processes of heavy vacuum fraction of Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant LLP in the presence of a zeolite adsorbent containing vanadium oxide xerogel were established: temperature 340 °C, pressure 1 atm., bulk feed rate 1 h−1. As a result of the process the extraction degree of vanadium, nickel and iron were 90, 70 and 60%, respectively, and the sulfur content decreased from 1.97 to 1.36%. Composition of the chemical adsorbent for demetallization and desulfurization of heavy vacuum fraction is established, too. Content of vanadium, iron and sulfur increase in composition of the adsorbent after treatment of heavy vacuum fraction, which confirms its high adsorption capacity regarding to metals and sulfur.

The three primary steps in the production of tungsten carbide WC and titanium carbide TiC powders are the preparation of the green mixture, carbidization by furnace annealing, and ball milling of the annealed products. This work performed a comprehensive parametric investigation of these three steps. The impact of several factors was examined including the carbon precursor, the mass and diameter of the milling bodies (balls), the milling time and speed, the temperature and length of the annealing process, the height of the powder in the furnace boats, and the rate at which the furnace boats move. Regression models for every stage of the process were verified by 10-fold validation and used to optimize the synthesis sequence, resulting in high-quality WC and TiC with a grain size below 2 microns and a content of free carbon below 0.1%. Additionally, solid solution (W,Ti)C was fabricated by mechanochemical synthesis from the elemental mixtures; however, further modification of this technique is necessary because of the observed relatively high concentration of residual free carbon (0.2–0.8%) and contamination by Fe.

Demetallization and desulfurization of vacuum residuum from the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (Kazakhstan) was carried out by adsorbents based on zeolite modified with titanium compounds and vanadium oxide. The process was carried out at a temperature of 320-360°C for 1 to 3 hours at atmospheric pressure. The results of determining the physico-chemical characteristics of the modified adsorbents showed that, after modification, their specific surface area increases, but the specific pore volume decreases. The maximum degree of demetallization is observed when using an adsorbent based on zeolite modified with titanium oxides and vanadium oxides. The change in the structure of vanadylporphyrins in vacuum residuum composition after the demetallization process is determined. After demetallization etioporphyrins have C27-C32 with a center of mass at C29, phylloporphyrins have C28-C34, after treatment at 360 °C, the center of mass shifts towards an increase in the number of carbon atoms C31.

Present study determines conditions for titanium magnetite concentrate processing with fairly complete titanium conversion to the slag and iron and vanadium separation in the hot metal. It is quite difficult to process titanium magnetite concentrate in the blast furnaces due to low fusibility of charge and direct electrical melting which cause process instability. Present work is devoted to development of concentrate double stage smelting process with little soda additions, including solid-phase recovery at the first stage using specific coke as a reductant, avoiding concentrate oxidation and including its preliminary thermooxidation. Mix charge made of concentrate, soda and specific coke was granulated in water, dried at 130°C, pellets were placed in graphite crucible, and later on it was set up in the centre of the furnace in alundum crucible. Temperature regimen was fixed under following parameters: temperature at the first stage was 1250°C; soaking time was 50 min; temperature at the second stage was 1500 - 1650°C; soaking time was 35 min. It is established that little soda additive (estimated 3-4% Na2O) to the charge of titanium magnetite concentrate recovery smelting behaves as a coagulant during briquetting, as a catalyst in course of solid-phase recovery, as an inhibitor of DRI briquettes secondary oxidation as slag thinner during smelting. In course of titanium magnetite concentrate reduction smelting process, soda interacts to SiO2, AhO3, TiO2 oxides forming sodium silicates and titanates. Double-stage technology of titanium magnetite concentrate reduction smelting was used, both with soda addition, and without oxidation and preliminary iron oxidation of titanium magnetite concentrates till hematite was developed. Optimal process parameters were determined. Following parameters were obtained: hot metal yield was ~⃒55% of concentrate weight, slag yield - 23.3-25.8%, carbon-free slag content, wt.%: Fe=1.0-1.6; TiO2=62.7-61.9. TiO2 yield in the slag was 89.6-94.1%. Hot metal contains, %: 5,51 C; 0.36 Ti; 0.35 Mn; 0.04 Si; 0,23 V. Vanadium yield in iron was 53.0%.

This study aimed to investigate synthesized wollastonite based on amorphous silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate as adsorbent for cleaning hydrocarbon feedstock from heavy organometallic compounds and sulfur. During the analysis, physicochemical parameters including the specific surface area and intensity of synthesized wollastonite were determined. The results showed that the optimal temperature zone for demetallization of hydrocarbon raw materials was 653 - 683 K, with a contact time of 60 minutes, and pressure of 8 - 10 atm. Furthermore, the content of vanadium, nickel, iron, and sulfur was found to decrease from 540 to 52 µg/kg, 50 to 26 µg/kg, 50 to 12 µg/kg, and 3.50% to 2.39%, respectively.
