In the recent past, a few fire warning and alarm systems have been presented based on a combination of a smoke sensor and an alarm device to design a life-safety system. However, such fire alarm systems are sometimes error-prone and can react to non-actual indicators of fire presence classified as false warnings. There is a need for high-quality and intelligent fire alarm systems that use multiple sensor values (such as a signal from a flame detector, humidity, heat, and smoke sensors, etc.) to detect true incidents of fire. An Adaptive neuro-fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used in this paper to calculate the maximum likelihood of the true presence of fire and generate fire alert. The novel idea proposed in this paper is to use ANFIS for the identification of a true fire incident by using change rate of smoke, the change rate of temperature, and humidity in the presence of fire. The model consists of sensors to collect vital data from sensor nodes where Fuzzy logic converts the raw data in a linguistic variable which is trained in ANFIS to get the probability of fire occurrence. The proposed idea also generates alerts with a message sent directly to the user’s smartphone. Our system uses small size, cost-effective sensors and ensures that this solution is reproducible. MATLAB-based simulation is used for the experiments and the results show a satisfactory output.

Typical fire monitoring and warning systems use a single smoke detector that is connected to a fire management system to give early warnings before the fire spreads out up to a damaging level. However, it is found that only smoke detector-based fire monitoring systems are not efficient and intelligent since they generate false warnings in case of a person is smoking, etc. There is need of a multi-sensor based intelligent and smart fire monitoring system that employs various parameters, such as presence of flame, temperature of the room, smoke, etc. To achieve such a smart solution, a multi-sensor solution is required that can intelligently use the data of sensors and generate true warnings for further fire control and management. This paper presents an intelligent Fire Monitoring and Warning System (FMWS) that is based on Fuzzy Logic to identify the true existence of dangerous fire and send alert to Fire Management System (FMS). This paper discusses design and application of a Fuzzy Logic Fire Monitoring and Warning System that also sends an alert message using Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology. The system is based on tiny, low cost, and very small in size sensors to ensure that the solution is reproduceable. Simulation work is done in MATLAB ver. 7.1 (The MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA) and the results of the experiments are satisfactory.

An Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled human-centered smart healthcare monitoring system can be useful in life saving, specifically for diabetes patients. Diabetes and heart patients need real-time and remote monitoring and recommendation-based medical assistance. Such human-centered smart healthcare systems can not only provide continuous medical assistance to diabetes patients but can also reduce overall medical expenses. In the last decade, machine learning has been successfully implemented to design more accurate and precise medical applications. In this paper, a smart sensing technologies-based architecture is proposed that uses AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) for continuous monitoring and health assistance for diabetes patients. The designed system senses various health parameters, such as blood pressure, blood oxygen, blood glucose (non-invasively), body temperature, and pulse rate, using a wrist band. We also designed a non-invasive blood sugar sensor using a near-infrared (NIR) sensor. The proposed system can predict the patient’s health condition, which is evaluated by a set of machine learning algorithms with the support of a fuzzy logic decision-making system. The designed system was validated on a large data set of 50 diabetes patients. The results of the simulation manifest that the random forest classifier gives the highest accuracy in comparison to other machine learning algorithms. The system predicts the patient’s condition accurately and sends it to the doctor’s portal.

Agriculture is suffering from the problem of low fertility and climate hazards such as increased pest attacks and diseases. Early prediction of pest attacks can be very helpful in improving productivity in agriculture. Insect pest (whitefly) attack has a high influence on cotton crop yield. Internet of Things solution is proposed to predict the whitefly attack to take prevention measures. An insect pest prediction system (IPPS) was developed with the help of the Internet of Things and a RBFN algorithm based on environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed. Pest Warning and Quality Control of Pesticides proposed an economic threshold level for prediction of whitefly attack. The economic threshold level and RBFN algorithm are used to predict the whitefly attack using temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed. The seven evaluation metrics accuracy, f-measures, precision, recall, Cohens kappa, ROC AUC, and confusion matrix are used to determine the performance of the RBFN algorithm. The proposed insect pest prediction system is deployed in the high influenced region of pest that provides pest prediction information to the farmer to take control measures.

The existing financial payment system has inherent credit card fraud problems that must be solved with strong and effective solutions. In this research, a combined deep learning model that incorporates a convolutional neural network (CNN), long-short-term memory (LSTM), and fully connected output layer is proposed to enhance the accuracy of fraud detection, particularly in addressing the class imbalance problem. A CNN is used for spatial features, LSTM for sequential information, and a fully connected output layer for final decision-making. Furthermore, SMOTE is used to balance the data and hyperparameter tuning is utilized to achieve the best model performance. In the case of hyperparameter tuning, the detection rate is greatly enhanced. High accuracy metrics are obtained by the proposed CNN-LSTM (CLST) model, with a recall of 83%, precision of 70%, F1-score of 76% for fraudulent transactions, and ROC-AUC of 0.9733. The proposed model’s performance is enhanced by hyperparameter optimization to a recall of 99%, precision of 83%, F1-score of 91% for fraudulent cases, and ROC-AUC of 0.9995, representing almost perfect fraud detection along with a low false negative rate. These results demonstrate that optimization of hyperparameters and layers is an effective way to enhance the performance of hybrid deep learning models for financial fraud detection. While prior studies have investigated hybrid structures, this study is distinguished by its introduction of an optimized of CNN and LSTM integration within a unified layer architecture.

Key-Value stores (KVSs) are the most flexible and simplest model of NoSQL databases, which have become highly popular over the last few years due to their salient features such as availability, portability, reliability, and low operational cost. From the perspective of software engineering, the chief obstacle for KVSs is to achieve software quality attributes (consistency, throughput, latency, security, performance, load balancing, and query processing) to ensure quality. The presented research is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to find the state-of-the-art research in the KVS domain, and through doing so determine the major challenges and solutions. This work reviews the 45 papers between 2010–2018 that were found to be closely relevant to our study area. The results show that performance is addressed in 31% of the studies, consistency is addressed in 20% of the studies, latency and throughput are addressed in 16% of the studies, query processing is addressed in 13% of studies, security is addressed in 11% of the studies, and load balancing is addressed in 9% of the studies. Different models are used for execution. The indexing technique was used in 20% of the studies, the hashing technique was used in 13% of the studies, the caching and security techniques were used together in 9% of the studies, the batching technique was used in 5% of the studies, the encoding techniques and Paxos technique were used together in 4% of the studies, and 36% of the studies used other techniques. This systematic review will enable researchers to design key-value stores as efficient storage. Regarding future collaborations, trust and privacy are the quality attributes that can be addressed; KVS is an emerging facet due to its widespread popularity, opening the way to deploy it with proper protection.
