Successful implementation of ultrasound irradiation for the rapid synthesis of a novel series of 3-[1-(4-substituted-5-(aryldiazenyl)thiazol-2-yl)hydrazono)ethyl]-2H-chromen-2-ones 5a–h, via reactions of 2-(1-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)ethylidene) thiosemicarbazide (2) and the hydrazonoyl halides 3(4), was demonstrated. Also, a new series of 5-arylidene-2-(2-(1-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)thiazol-4(5H)-ones 10a–d were synthesized from reaction of 2 with chloroacetic acid and different aldehydes. Moreover, reaction of 2-cyano-N'-(1-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)ethylidene)-acetohydrazide (12) with substituted benzaldehydes gave the respective arylidene derivatives 13a–c under the conditions employed. The structures of the synthesized compounds were assigned based on elemental analyses and spectral data. Also, the cytototoxic activities of the thiazole derivative 5a was evaluated against HaCaT cells (human keratinocytes). It was found that compound 5a possess potent cytotoxic activity.
Pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles are obtained via mixing ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, aldehydes or ketones and malononitrile in the absence of solvent. These same products were also obtained by reacting arylidenemalononitriles 3 with 3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones. NOE difference experiments confirmed that these products exist solely in the 2H form. Similar treatments of 3-amino-2-pyrazolin-5-one with arylidene-malononitrile afforded adduct 6. Similarly mixing ethyl cyanoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, aldehydes, with malononitrile gave the same product 6. A novel synthesis of 4-oxo-4H-pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole (8) could be achieved via reacting 3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one with a mixture of cyanoacetic acid and acetic anhydride. Similar treatment of 3-aminopyrazole 11 with the benzylidene-malononitrile produced the pyrazolo[2,3-a]pyrimidines 12a,b.

Chitosan (CS) was used as a powerful chelating agent and an excellent template for synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs). The CS-MgO nanocomposite film was prepared by adding 10%wt of MgO relative to CS and was characterized by different techniques. From the FTIR, some of the main characteristic peaks of CS were shifted due to the interaction with MgO especially with OH and NH2 groups. Also, SEM graphs showed a clear change in the morphological surface of CS. Moreover, XRD pattern shows an improvement in the crystallinity due to incorporation of MgO NPs. The dielectric and optical properties of the nanocomposite film were studied. Moreover, the effect of temperature on the dielectric properties of the hybrid film was studied. The absorption and transmittance were measured for the prepared samples by using UV–VIS spectrophotometer. The optical parameters such as refractive index, absorption coefficient and energy band gap for the CS-MgO nanocomposite were calculated and compared with the pure CS film only.
