Chitosan (CS) was used as a powerful chelating agent and an excellent template for synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs). The CS-MgO nanocomposite film was prepared by adding 10%wt of MgO relative to CS and was characterized by different techniques. From the FTIR, some of the main characteristic peaks of CS were shifted due to the interaction with MgO especially with OH and NH2 groups. Also, SEM graphs showed a clear change in the morphological surface of CS. Moreover, XRD pattern shows an improvement in the crystallinity due to incorporation of MgO NPs. The dielectric and optical properties of the nanocomposite film were studied. Moreover, the effect of temperature on the dielectric properties of the hybrid film was studied. The absorption and transmittance were measured for the prepared samples by using UV–VIS spectrophotometer. The optical parameters such as refractive index, absorption coefficient and energy band gap for the CS-MgO nanocomposite were calculated and compared with the pure CS film only.
We performed dopant mediated hole transport measurements to identify the depth position of individual boron acceptors and investigate two-acceptor coupling in silicon-on-insulator nanoscale field-effect transistors at a temperature of . The depth position is qualitatively obtained from the analysis of the acceptor-to-gate capacitances. We also observe signatures of a two-acceptor capacitive coupling in the characteristics of the conductance versus the front and back gate voltages.
Polyaniline-assisted deposition of PbS is carried out on antimony tin oxide (ATO) glass for ATO/PANI/PbS composite formation. The deposition of PbS was carried out inside and outside the polymer chains using the ionic adsorption deposition process. Various analyses were conducted to confirm the chemical structure and morphological, optical, and electrical properties of the resulting composite. TEM and SEM analyses demonstrated the spherical shape of PbS particles inside and outside the PANI network with more dark or white color, respectively. Moreover, the ImageJ program confirmed the composite formation. The XRD characterization showed the shifts in the PANI peaks after the composite formation with the appearance of a new additional peak related to PbS nanoparticles. The optical analyses were massively enhanced after the composite formation with more broadening in the Vis region at 630 nm, in which there was more enhancement in the bandgap that reached 1.5 eV. The electrode application in the H2 generation process was carried out from wastewater (sewage water, third treatment) without any additional sacrificing agent. The electrode responded well to light, where the current density ([ ]) changed from 10-6 to 0.13 mA.cm-2 under dark and light, respectively. The electrode had high reproducibility and stability. The numbers of generated H2 moles were 0.1 mmol/cm2.h. The produced [ ] and [ ] were 7.3 kJ/mol and 273.4 J/mol.K, respectively. Finally, the mechanism explains the H2 generation reaction using three-electrode cell.
Polymeric films made from chitosan (CS) doped with metal oxide (MO = cobalt (II) oxide and strontium oxide) nanoparticles at different concentrations (5, 10, 15, and 20% wt. MO/CS) were fabricated with the solution cast method. FTIR, SEM, and XRD spectra were used to study the structural features of those nanocomposite films. The FTIR spectra of chitosan showed the main characteristic peaks that are usually present, but they were shifted considerably by the chemical interaction with metal oxides. FTIR analysis of the hybrid chitosan-CoO nanocomposite exhibited notable peaks at 558 and 681 cm−1. Conversely, the FTIR analysis of the chitosan-SrO composite displayed peaks at 733.23 cm−1, 810.10 cm−1, and 856.39 cm−1, which can be attributed to the bending vibrations of Co-O and Sr-O bonds, respectively. In addition, the SEM graphs showed a noticeable morphological change on the surface of chitosan, which may be due to surface adsorption with metal oxide nanoparticles. The XRD pattern also revealed a clear change in the crystallinity of chitosan when it is in contact with metal oxide nanoparticles. The presence of characteristic signals for cobalt (Co) and strontium (Sr) are clearly shown in the EDX examinations, providing convincing evidence for their incorporation into the chitosan matrix. Moreover, the stability of the nanoparticle-chitosan coordinated bonding was verified from the accurate and broadly parametrized semi-empirical tight-binding quantum chemistry calculation. This leads to the determination of the structures’ chemical hardness as estimated from the frontier’s orbital calculations. We characterized the dielectric properties in terms of the real and imaginary dielectric permittivity as a function of frequency. Dielectric findings reveal the existence of extensive interactions of CoO and SrO, more pronounced for SrO, with the functional groups of CS through coordination bonding. This induces the charge transfer of the complexes between CoO and SrO and the CS chains and a decrease in the amount of the crystalline phase, as verified from the XRD patterns.
