Lean Management method has been applied in several fields before its implementation in healthcare area. Among the different techniques associated with Lean, in this paper, we are focused on Kanban system, which is a method that presents several benefits such as inventory holding reduction or improvement of the employees' satisfaction. Our main objective is to carry out a literature review focused on Kanban methodology applied to health care. In this sense, this study can serve as a script to improve hospital management in pandemic periods, such as the one currently lived on COVID-19. We carry out a literature review searching in four different databases. We combine several terms to achieve our objective. We identify several articles which describe Kanban methodology applied to health field. More specifically, we present in what areas (nursing or pharmacy, among others) this method has been applied. In addition, we show all the barriers as well as benefits caused by the implementation of this system. There are a few studies focused on analysing how Kanban is applied to health care. Therefore, we can affirm that this topic is still recent.

This work develops a systematic literature review on the B Corp movement. Fifty articles were identified in the Web of Science and Scopus databases until 2020. Results show that it is an incipient field with great potential. There are two topics repeatedly addressed in the analyzed publications: the motivations of companies to be certified, and the economic and social effects that occur after certification. Sustainability is currently the reference journal in the field, since it has published a total of five articles. Finally, several lines of future work are proposed, such as the contribution of B Corp companies to the SDGs; the development of case studies on the certification process itself; and the development of methods for measuring social impact.

Given the importance that environmental management is acquiring, the main aim of this work is to know what the state of the field kaizen and green practices is at present. A systematic narrative review is conducted in accordance with the PRISMA Statement. Two databases (Web of Science and Scopus) were searched. Finally, after applying the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 19 documents were analyzed. Based on the results, it might be concluded that, despite the growing interest in the relationship between kaizen and green practices, this is a topic in the early stages of development, with a clear predominance of case studies. It is, therefore, necessary to develop more research on this kaizen and green issue as improving environmental management is undeniably becoming a must in today’s competitive environment. For instance, more research is needed on the application of kaizen tools as results obtained so far seem not to be conclusive. Additionally, more academic and rigorous studies should be developed on this topic as many of the analyzed papers seem to be clearly created for dissemination among practitioners, some of them lacking the traditional academic structure and scientific method during their development.

Are you a member of an organization that needs to contact a researcher who works on a topic you are interested in? Are you a PhD supervisor trying to identify experts of an specific topic for the Dissertation Committee? Are you thinking about a research / publication project and want to find some new partners to collaborate with? If you answered yes to any of these questions (or similar questions), this work may be of interest to you. The objective of this article is to summarize the research published in 2019 by Spanish researchers in the area of operations management, who are ACEDEDOT members. This will allow us to identify themes that are considered relevant in the context of a country and a specific organizational or social framework. At the same time, it will make it possible to identify groups of experts by subject area, which may lead to future research, teaching or participation in doctoral thesis committees. In the same way, it can be used so that managers and practitioners can detect lines of work related to their needs. This could help to reduce the gap between business and university, promoting mutual collaboration. Finally, if this work is replicated in the coming years, we will have a quick approximation of how the priority interests evolve for a group of national researchers.

The aim of this paper is to propose a classification of the barriers of continuous improvement and identify the different profiles of companies based on it. First, a literature review was done in order to identify the main barriers; second, some of them were included in a survey based on experts’ opinions; third, a survey was conducted among people responsible for implementing continuous improvement; and finally factorial and cluster analysis were applied. Based on the results, two main factors were identified: ‘pre-implementation barriers’ and ‘during implementation barriers’. Additionally, four clusters were analysed ‘informal companies’, ‘disoriented companies’, ‘unaware companies’ and ‘slightly-hindered companies’. As many companies still struggle when implementing continuous improvement, the results of this study can help all them to focus on the most important aspects in order to guarantee the sustainability of the continuous improvement system. From a theoretical point of view, this work contributes to the continuous improvement field by analysing the nature of the main barriers companies can find when implementing these initiatives. Thus, not only does this study provide a hierarchy of the most important barriers, but also classifies them. As far as authors are concerned, this is the first attempt to categorise continuous improvement barriers.

Continuous improvement practices are increasingly common among all kinds of companies as a means to achieve business excellence. However, the reasons why companies implement continuous improvement might vary a lot. This article presents data on the motivations that induce companies to develop continuous improvement initiatives. The data were collected through a survey. Of the 209 companies surveyed, 109 answered it. The dataset includes information about the main characteristics of the company (size, sector) together with information about the main reasons to set up continuous improvement management practices. The dataset is available in excel format. The authors consider that these data are useful not only for researchers but also for consultants and for those practitioners interested in decision sciences.

Throughout the literature, there are several studies that highlight the importance of interaction in the classroom as a means to promote student learning. Based on this idea, and due to the absence of previous studies that do it, the objective of this work is to propose a questionnaire that allows to measure the level of interaction in university classrooms, as well as to identify the best interactive practices, from a triple perspective: observed teacher, external observer and student. This work is part of a teaching innovation project carried out by a multidisciplinary group of lecturers from the University of Cantabria. In this study, in addition to presenting the aforementioned questionnaire proposal, the research process for the collection of data and the analysis of results will be described. It is considered that the main contribution of this work is the proposal of an instrument for measuring interaction.

Purpose: Continuous improvement is a means of promoting and working through business excellence. However, due to the complexity of the implementation process, many companies fail. Some authors consider that this partly due to the lack of studies which develop and validate theoretical constructs in order to push theory in the CI field. Therefore, this study aims at identifying and better understanding the factors that could act as enablers when implementing a CI initiative by designing and analyzing a new theoretical construct.Design/methodology/approach: After conducting a rigorous literature review and consulting a group of experts, Rasch Measurement Theory was used in order to validate the construct and rank the enablers.Findings: After validating the construct, a hierarchy of priority was obtained, being the following enablers the most important ones: establishing clear objectives, training, recognizing the achievements and learning from the CI process itself and motivation.Practical implications: Identifying the key enablers could help those companies that are about to start with the implementation process. Additionally obtaining a general classification could help managers to make good decisions and handle these enablers, fostering the most important one.Originality/value: This paper provides additional evidence regarding the main enablers that an organization that decides to implement CI can foster. Additionally, as far as authors are concerned, this is the first paper that defines a theoretical construct concerning continuous improvement enablers. Going one-step further, this paper obtains a hierarchy of priority, identifying the main enablers according to managers’ opinions.

Companies need to ensure the effectiveness of all their processes. The case of the shipbuilding sector is exactly the same. From a management perspective, two important points should be highlighted. In order to face the continuous demand fluctuations, many shipyards, especially the smaller ones, have reduced their staff. This fact allows shipyards to be more flexible and to reduce their fixed costs in order to survive in low activity periods. On the other side, when there are peaks of workload, they outsource many activities. In fact, outsourcing has become one of the main and most important processes in shipyards. The level of outsourced activities is so high that shipyards are considered to be synthesis industries. Therefore, it is very important to ensure that the outsourcing process is correctly managed. Thus, the aim of this study is to show how process management can be used as a means to guarantee the effectiveness of a process. Specifically, the case of a small shipyard applying process management in its outsourcing process will be described.

It is said that we live in an information society. In this scenario, information becomes a key aspect in everybody's professional and personal lives. Thus, a new concept appears: information literacy. Even though information literacy is not always considered a core competency, many organizations require information literacy skills on their job offers. Therefore, every university student should acquire and develop information literacy skills during their undergraduate studies. Taking this into consideration, as a first step, students should be aware of the relevance of information literacy skills. Once they are aware of its importance, they are able to improve and develop it. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze whether university students are aware of the importance of information literacy. Additionally, the authors analyze whether students' awareness varies after attending an information training course. In order to fulfil this objective, the IL-HUMASS survey is used.

Continuous improvement is a concept that has been widely studied from multiple perspectives during the last decades. However, new studies on the topic appear because it seems that there are still questions to be resolved. Therefore, the key question is what future research lines should be developed. As such, the possibility of carrying out a systematic review of literature was raised. However, given the high number of systematic reviews published in recent years, the final objective of this paper is to perform a meta-review of the concept of continuous improvement. Therefore, this study presents the research protocol followed to perform a meta-review of the concept of continuous improvement; being the main objective of the meta-review to know the state of this field of study and to find out where future research should be oriented.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to define a general and common construct in order to measure the level of difficulty companies experience when they implement continuous improvement (CI). Additionally, a rank of barriers is obtained together with a rank of companies. Design/methodology/approach In order to achieve the objective, first, a literature review is carried out to specify the domain of the construct; second, a sample of items is selected; third a survey is carried out in companies that have already implemented CI initiatives, the results being thus limited to this population; fourth, measures are purified by analysing the reliability and validity of the measurements, and finally results are obtained. The Rasch measurement theory will be used to provide a new perspective on a mature research topic. Findings It can be concluded that a new valid construct has been defined together with a rank of CI barriers, being lack of time the main barrier. A rank of companies is also obtained which is a first step in the development of future research studies. Practical implications Managers are provided with a better understanding of the barriers that can obstruct CI implementation. Thus, the rank of CI barriers guides managers through the most common and important obstacles so that they will be able to plan better CI strategies. In addition, the rank of companies allows each company to undertake a benchmarking exercise. Originality/value This work proposes a new way of analysing the difficulty in implementing CI as a continuum, rather than as independent barriers. From a theoretical point of view, it defines a new construct and offers a rank of CI barriers together with a rank of companies based on their level of difficulty when implementing CI initiatives. This is something new, as previous studies were mainly focussed on the items side. From a practical point of view, this study offers the surveyed companies the opportunity to see how they are positioned with respect to the other companies. Moreover, this rank of companies is the foundation on which to develop further studies with a practical orientation in the future.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the perception of future graduates in Business Administration and Management on the conceptualization, constitution and regulation of the work groups in the university classrooms. To achieve this objective, the Questionnaire for the Analysis of Cooperative Work in Higher Education (ACOES) will be used. The results show that the respondents consider that cooperative learning helps them to develop their social skills and is as an opportunity to get to know their peers. In addition, cooperative learning gives them the ability to reach agreements with different opinions and the ability to understand the ideas of other colleagues. Likewise, the main problem is the lack of coordination between the different subjects. Regarding the formation of the groups, the respondents prefer to form them by applying friendship criteria. Finally, the respondents consider that the groups should be permanents and formed by 4 or 5 members.

More than 90% of companies in Spain, and other European countries, are SMEs. Therefore it is imperative to support and develop their competitiveness due to their contribution to the national economy. Thus, process management is said to be a useful means to improve efficiency and achieve a competitive advantage. Taking this into consideration the aim of this study is to identify and rank the barriers, enablers and benefits that SMEs encounter when implementing process management and to propose different initiatives to ease the implementation process. In order to fulfil this objective, a survey was conducted among SMEs that have already implemented process management so that their experience could help other SMEs. Finally, a ranking of barriers, enablers and benefits is obtained and some suggestions for managers are proposed.

Construct design and validation is a common practise in the Operations Management field. In this sense, the aim of this study is to present Rasch Measurement Theory (RMT) as richful and useful methodology in order to validate constructs. In order to do so, the measurement controversy in the social science is presented; then, RMT is explained as a solution for this measurement issue; after that, the different applications of RMT are described and, finally, the different stages of the validation process are presented. Thus, this work aims to serve as a guide for those researchers interested in the methodology. Therefore, a specific case is included: the validation of the construct “motivation to implement continuous improvement”.
