Introduction: Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) poses a serious viral threat to dogs. Despite the potential contribution of companion animals to antimicrobial resistance, data on CPV and associated bacterial coinfections remain limited. This study aimed to characterize the CPV-2 epizootic situation in Kostanay (Kazakhstan), assess bacterial coinfections and AMR profiles, including molecular markers, and evaluate their relevance to One Health. Methods: Epizootiological monitoring revealed a CPV-2 positivity rate of 19.4% ( n = 549). For microbiological and PCR studies, two groups were established: CPV-2 + ( n = 198) and clinically healthy ( n = 200) dogs. E. coli , Klebsiella spp., and S. aureus were identified by culture/MALDI-TOF; AMR was assessed by disc diffusion (CLSI). Resistance genes were detected by PCR: for Enterobacteriaceae , blaTEM, OXA, tetA/tetB, StrA/StrB, aadB, aphA1, qnr/qepA, and sul1/sul3; for S. aureus , blaZ, ermB/ermC, tetK/tetM, and mecA. Results: A total of 131 isolates were obtained (CPV-2 + : 72; healthy: 59), predominantly E. coli ( n = 65) and S. aureus ( n = 53). CPV-2 + dogs tended to carry more gram-negative bacteria. Enterobacteriaceae were highly resistant to tetracyclines (58.4%) and fluoroquinolones (51.2%), and sporadic carbapenem resistance was detected in Klebsiella (7%). β -Lactamase determinants (blaTEM/OXA) and aminoglycoside resistance genes were more frequently detected in CPV-2 + isolates, whereas blaZ predominated in S. aureus . Conclusion: CPV-2 infection is associated with a significant bacterial burden and pronounced AMR, supporting the need for improved surveillance and empirical therapy optimization. These results fill a geographical data gap in Central Asia and align with AMR trends reported in Europe and Asia, underscoring the cross-border circulation of CPV-2 and resistant bacteria and the need for a One Health approach.

The review summarizes current data on the biodiversity of parasites of the genus Sarcocystis and their significance for ecosystems, veterinary medicine, and public health. Sarcocystoses are considered diseases of pronounced veterinary and zoonotic importance, as they lead to reduced productivity in farm animals, deterioration of meat quality, and may cause pathological effects in humans. Information on the taxonomic and geographic diversity of representatives of the genus, the specificity of intermediate and definitive hosts, as well as the influence of environmental factors on parasite circulation has been analyzed. It is noted that the actual species diversity of Sarcocystis significantly exceeds the number of morphologically described forms, which is associated with the active implementation of molecular genetic identification methods. Modern diagnostic approaches are reviewed, including morphological and histological studies, as well as molecular methods using markers such as 18S rRNA, cox1, and ITS-1, which make it possible to clarify taxonomic boundaries, identify cryptic species, and analyze phylogenetic relationships. The need to integrate classical parasitological and molecular methods to improve diagnostic accuracy, enhance monitoring, and develop preventive measures is emphasized. It is concluded that an interdisciplinary approach combining parasitology, epizootology, ecology, and molecular biology is essential, as it provides a deeper understanding of the evolutionary relationships between parasite and host and forms a scientific basis for the effective control and prevention of zoonotic sarcocystosis.

The article presents the results of treatment of colic in horses. For the study we selected 22 horses brought to the clinic with colic symptoms. The clinical studies were conducted analyzing the data contained in the patient data system. We analyzed the treatment methods used and their effectiveness. We used drug treatment and a combination of drug and surgical interventions. In all cases, symptomatic therapy was used. Gastrointestinal diseases are frequent in horses and are the most common cause of emergency room visits. Our findings indicate that medication is the most effective treatment method, with a recovery rate of 78%. The treatment regimen includes flunixin for pain relief, dexamethasone for sedation, and butylscopolamine bromide, dipyrone, and drotaverine hydrochloride to alleviate spasms. Liquid therapy involves the use of various infusion solutions, which are combined with each other and with antibiotic treatment for enhanced effectiveness. Less effective is the use of surgery alone (with a recovery rate of 22%), which aims to eliminate the cause of the disease through surgical procedures. The integrated use of medicinal and surgical methods enables to improve and lead to recovery and a positive outcome of colic in horses (recovery rate of 25%).

Background and Aim. All over the world ixodes ticks are known as carriers and keepers of causative agents of some dangerous diseases in animals and humans. A large role in the research is given to the circulation of ixodes ticks. The fauna of ixodes ticks is a group of parasitic arthropods which has not been researched well enough in the northern region of Kazakhstan. The goal of the research was to identify ixodes ticks within the area of Kostanai region. The objectives were to determine species composition and their geographical distribution in Kostanai region. Materials and Methods. The research work was carried out on the territory of Kostanay region. Ixodic ticks were collected using a flag. The determination of the type of ticks was carried out using light microscopy based on morpho anatomical features. Results. In the course of research ticks of various species were found, such as Dermacentor, Hyalomma and Rhipicephalus. Two species of ticks are widespread in Kostanay region: D. reticulatus Fabricius -51.3% and D. marginatus Sulzer - 46.5%, single specimens were found as well, D. niveus Neumann – 0.9%, H. scupence Sulzer– 0.9% and Rh. schulzei Olenev - 0.4%. They were found in the southern area of the region.

Feline tooth resorption (Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions, FORL) is one of the most common dental disorders in domestic cats, characterized by the progressive destruction of hard dental tissues. Although the exact etiology remains unclear, recent research has suggested a potential role of vitamin D in regulating mineral metabolism and bone resorption. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum 25(OH)D concentration and the prevalence of FORL in domestic cats. Eighteen adult cats were examined clinically, underwent dental radiography, and had serum 25(OH)D levels measured. Cats with multiple tooth lesions showed a trend toward lower vitamin D concentrations. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between serum 25(OH)D levels and the number of affected teeth (r = –0.57; p = 0.014). The findings suggest that vitamin D deficiency may be a potential risk factor for the development of FORL. These results highlight the importance of assessing vitamin D status in feline dental disorders and open new perspectives for developing preventive and therapeutic strategies to reduce FORL prevalence.

Background and Aim. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common allergic skin disorder in dogs and is often difficult to diagnose due to overlapping clinical signs with other dermatological conditions. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, clinical and epidemiological features, diagnostic approaches, and comparative effectiveness of modern anti pruritic therapies in a clinical setting. Materials and Methods. The study was conducted between 2022 and 2024 at the “VetAlliance” veterinary clinic in Kostanay, Kazakhstan. Out of 482 dogs presenting with dermatological complaints, 53 dogs with chronic pruritus (>6 weeks), meeting ≥5 Favrot criteria, and free from parasitic, infectious, or endocrine diseases were included. Diagnostic evaluation included history-taking via standardized questionnaires, clinical examination, CADLI and PVAS scoring, Favrot criteria assessment, cytology, and serological testing for allergen-specific IgE in 18 dogs. Dogs were allocated to three therapeutic groups: monoclonal antibodies (Lokivetmab/Cytopoint), JAK inhibitor (Oclacitinib/Apoquel), and prednisolone. Clinical signs were assessed on days 0, 14, 28, and 56. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, χ2 tests, ANOVA or Kruskal Wallis tests, and odds ratios, with significance set at p < 0.05. Results. AD was confirmed in 53 of 482 dogs (~11%), predominantly in females (58.5%) aged 3-4 years. French Bulldogs and West Highland White Terriers were the most frequently affected purebred dogs. Secondary infections with Staphylococcus spp. and Malassezia spp. were detected in 43.4% and 15.1% of cases respectively. All three treatments significantly reduced pruritus and skin lesions. Lokivetmab and prednisolone provided more rapid initial improvement, while comparable clinical efficacy among all treatments was observed by day 30. Conclusion. Canine AD is a multifactorial allergic disease requiring a comprehensive diagnostic approach, including history, clinical evaluation, PVAS/CADLI scoring, Favrot criteria assessment, and cytological analysis. Treatment should be individualized according to disease severity and patient characteristics, utilizing modern anti–pruritic agents–monoclonal antibodies, JAK inhibitors, or prednisolone–combined with regular monitoring, risk factor management, and owner education to ensure long-term disease control.
