Due to the large number of waterborne bacteria presenting in drinking water, their rapid and accurate identification has become a global priority. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor with prism (BK7)-silver(Ag)-MXene(Ti3T2Cx)-graphene- affinity-sensing medium is examined in this paper, in which the sensing medium includes pure water, vibrio cholera (V. cholera), and escherichia coli (E. coli). For the Ag-affinity-sensing medium, the maximum sensitivity is obtained by E. coli, followed by V. cholera, and the minimum is pure water. Based on the fixed-parameter scanning (FPS) method, the highest sensitivity is 246.2 °/RIU by the MXene and graphene with monolayer, and with E. coli sensing medium. Therefore, the algorithm of improved differential evolution (IDE) is obtained. By the IDE algorithm, after three iterations, the maximum fitness value (sensitivity) of the SPR biosensor achieves 246.6 °/RIU by using the structure of Ag (61 nm)-MXene (monolayer)-graphene (monolayer)-affinity (4 nm)-E. coli. Compared with the FPS and differential evolution (DE) algorithm, the highest sensitivity is more accurate and efficient, and with fewer iterations. The performance optimization of multilayer SPR biosensors provides an efficient platform.

Rapid and accurate moisture detection is critical for alfalfa quality control, yet conventional methods are slow, and non-destructive techniques are challenged by different product forms. This study leveraged Short-Wave Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging (SWIR-HSI) to acquire spatially representative spectra, aiming to develop and validate robust, form-specific moisture prediction models for compressed and powdered alfalfa. For compressed alfalfa, a full-spectrum Support Vector Regression (SVR) model demonstrated stable and good performance (mean Prediction Coefficient of Determination RP2 = 0.880, Ratio of Performance to Deviation RPD = 2.93). In contrast, powdered alfalfa achieved superior accuracy (mean RP2 = 0.953, RPD = 5.29) using an optimized pipeline of Savitzky–Golay’s first derivative, Successive Projections Algorithm (SPA) for feature selection, and an SVR model. A key finding is that the optimal model for powdered alfalfa frequently converged to an ultra-sparse, single-band solution near water absorption shoulders (~970/1450 nm), highlighting significant potential for developing low-cost, filter-based agricultural sensors. While this minimalist model showed excellent average accuracy, rigorous repeated evaluations also revealed non-negligible performance variability across different data splits—a crucial consideration for practical deployment. Our findings underscore that tailoring models to specific product forms and explicitly quantifying their robustness is essential for reliable NIR sensing in agriculture and provides concrete wavelength targets for sensor development.

Calorific value and moisture content are the key indices to evaluate Caragana pellet fuel’s quality and combustion characteristics. Calorific value is the key index to measure the energy released by energy plants during combustion, which determines energy utilization efficiency. But at present, the determination of solid fuel is still carried out in the laboratory by oxygen bomb calorimetry. This has seriously hindered the ability of large-scale, rapid detection of fuel particles in industrial production lines. In response to this technical challenge, this study proposes using hyperspectral imaging technology combined with various chemometric methods to establish quantitative models for determining moisture content and calorific value in Caragana korshinskii fuel. A hyperspectral imaging system was used to capture the spectral data in the 935–1720 nm range of 152 samples from multiple regions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. For water content and calorific value, three quantitative detection models, partial least squares regression (PLSR), random forest regression (RFR), and extreme learning machine (ELM), respectively, were established, and Monte Carlo cross-validation (MCCV) was chosen to remove outliers from the raw spectral data to improve the model accuracy. Four preprocessing methods were used to preprocess the spectral data, with standard normal variate (SNV) preprocessing performing best on the quantitative moisture content detection model and Savitzky–Golay (SG) preprocessing performing best on the calorific value detection method. Meanwhile, to improve the prediction accuracy of the model to reduce the redundant wavelength data, we chose four feature extraction methods, competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS), successive pojections algorithm (SPA), genetic algorithm (GA), iteratively retains informative variables (IRIV), and combined the three models to build a quantitative detection model for the characteristic wavelengths of moisture content and calorific value of Caragana korshinskii fuel. Finally, a comprehensive comparison of the modeling effectiveness of all methods was carried out, and the SNV-IRIV-PLSR modeling combination was the best for water content prediction, with its prediction set determination coefficient (RP2), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP), and relative percentage deviation (RPD) of 0.9693, 0.2358, and 5.6792, respectively. At the same time, the moisture content distribution map of Caragana fuel particles is established by using this model. The SG-CARS-RFR modeling combination was the best for calorific value prediction, with its RP2, RMSEP, and RPD of 0.8037, 0.3219, and 2.2864, respectively. This study provides an innovative technical solution for Caragana fuel particles’ value and quality assessment.

The automatic feeding device is crucial in grassland livestock farming, enhancing feeding efficiency, ensuring regular and accurate feed delivery, minimizing waste, and reducing costs. The shape and size of pellet feed render it particularly suitable for the delivery mechanism of automated feeding troughs. The uniformity of pellet flow is a critical factor in the study of automatic feeding troughs, and optimizing the movement characteristics of the pellets contributes to enhanced operational efficiency of the equipment. However, existing research often lacks a systematic analysis of the pellet size characteristics (such as diameter and length) and flow behavior differences in pellet feed, which limits the practical application of feed troughs. This study optimized the angle of repose and structural parameters of the feeding trough using Matlab simulations and discrete element modeling. It explored how the stock bin slope and baffle opening height influence pellet feed flow characteristics. A programmable logic controller (PLC) and human–machine interface (HMI) were used for precise timing and quantitative feeding, validating the design’s practicality. The results indicated that the Matlab method could calibrate the Johnson–Kendall–Roberts (JKR) model’s surface energy. The optimal slope was found to be 63°, with optimal baffle heights of 28 mm for fine and medium pellets and 30 mm for coarse pellets. The experimental metrics showed relative errors of 3.5%, 2.8%, and 4.2% (for average feed rate) and 8.2%, 7.3%, and 1.2% (for flow time). The automatic feeding trough showed a feeding error of 0.3% with PLC-HMI. This study’s optimization of the automatic feeding trough offers a strong foundation and guidance for efficient, accurate pellet feed distribution.

Alfalfa densification is a critical step in feed utilization and biomass energy conversion because it directly affects the transport efficiency, storage stability, and energy consumption of biomass processing systems. However, the thermodynamic behavior of the densification process remains poorly understood, especially under open-die conditions without external heating. This study investigated the thermo-mechanical characteristics of alfalfa pellet open-die densification without external heating by combining experimental measurements with ANSYS macro-continuum simulation. Stress transmission and temperature field distributions were analyzed. The results showed that the pellet quality index under different process conditions remained above 800, meeting the requirements for pelleted feed. Moisture content had a more significant effect on forming pressure than other factors; as moisture content increased, the forming pressure decreased. At an aspect ratio of 5.0, the forming pressure was below 45 kN. Simulation results further indicated that aspect ratio had a stronger influence on frictional behavior during densification. Under an aspect ratio of 5.0, the energy consumption was 888.53 J, and the heat flux reached 0.0062 W/mm2. These results indicate that frictional dissipation driven by radial force is the dominant mechanism governing thermo-mechanical coupling. Moisture content and aspect ratio significantly affected both peak compression force and coupling intensity. Although reducing moisture content or increasing aspect ratio improved pellet quality, it also increased die load due to enhanced radial force. The coupling intensity followed the order: peak pressure stage > moving stage > compression stage. These findings reveal the evolution of stress and temperature fields during alfalfa densification, offering critical theoretical guidance for optimizing densification process parameters.
