This paper studies a deep learning (DL) framework to solve distributed non-convex constrained optimizations in wireless networks where multiple computing nodes, interconnected via backhaul links, desire to determine an efficient assignment of their states based on local observations. Two different configurations are considered: First, an infinite-capacity backhaul enables nodes to communicate in a lossless way, thereby obtaining the solution by centralized computations. Second, a practical finite-capacity backhaul leads to the deployment of distributed solvers equipped along with quantizers for communication through capacity-limited backhaul. The distributed nature and the non-convexity of the optimizations render the identification of the solution unwieldy. To handle them, deep neural networks (DNNs) are introduced to approximate an unknown computation for the solution accurately. In consequence, the original problems are transformed to training tasks of the DNNs subject to non-convex constraints where existing DL libraries fail to extend straightforwardly. A constrained training strategy is developed based on the primal-dual method. For distributed implementation, a novel binarization technique at the output layer is developed for quantization at each node. Our proposed distributed DL framework is examined in various network configurations of wireless resource management. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of our proposed approach over existing optimization techniques.

Hybrid carbon nanotube composites with two different types of fillers have attracted considerable attention for various advantages. The incorporation of micro-scale secondary fillers creates an excluded volume that leads to the increase in the electrical conductivity. By contrast, nano-scale secondary fillers shows a conflicting behavior of the decreased electrical conductivity with micro-scale secondary fillers. Although several attempts have been made in theoretical modeling of secondary-filler composites, the knowledge about how the electrical conductivity depends on the dimension of secondary fillers was not fully understood. This work aims at comprehensive understanding of the size effect of secondary particulate fillers on the electrical conductivity, via the combination of Voronoi geometry induced from Swiss cheese models and the underlying percolation theory. This indicates a transition in the impact of the excluded volume, i.e., the adjustment of the electrical conductivity was measured in cooperation with loading of second fillers with different sizes.

This paper presents a deep-learning (DL) based approach to the design of multi-colored visible light communication (VLC) systems where RGB light-emitting diode (LED) lamps accomplish multi-dimensional color modulation under color and illuminance requirements. It is aimed to identify a pair of multi-color modulation transmitter and receiver leading to efficient symbol recovery performance. To this end, an autoencoder (AE), an unsupervised deep learning technique, is adopted to train the end-to-end symbol recovery process that includes the VLC transceiver pair and a channel layer characterizing the optical channel along with additional LED intensity control features. As a result, the VLC transmitter and receiver are jointly designed and optimized. Intensive numerical results demonstrate that the learned VLC system outperforms existing techniques in terms of the average symbol error probability. This framework sheds light on the viability of DL techniques in the optical communication system design.

This paper develops a deep learning framework for the design of on-off keying (OOK) based binary signaling transceiver in dimmable visible light communication (VLC) systems. The dimming support for the OOK optical signal is achieved by adjusting the number of ones in a binary codeword, which boils down to a combinatorial design problem for the codebook of a constant weight code (CWC) over signal-dependent noise channels. To tackle this challenge, we employ an autoencoder (AE) approach to learn a neural network of the encoder-decoder pair that reconstructs the output identical to an input. In addition, optical channel layers and binarization techniques are introduced to reflect the physical and discrete nature of the OOK-based VLC systems. The VLC transceiver is designed and optimized via the end-to-end training procedure for the AE. Numerical results verify that the proposed transceiver performs better than baseline CWC schemes.

5G new radio will provide a new paradigm in high accurate vehicle localization, reinforced by the use of large antenna arrays along with carefully designed broadband radio technology. However, a high computational load still remains unravelled in the context of cooperative localization, albeit with its advantages of high-precision localization. To alleviate such the computational burden, we develop a reliable technique of cooperative localization, addressed as a constraint satisfaction problem. A constraint satisfaction formalism for cooperative localization readily enables to recast a formulation of the decentralized optimization. Its efficient solution of the optimization is developed in a distributed manner. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach saves the requested computational loads significantly while sustaining the satisfactory accuracy of cooperative localization.
