An induction motor is generally used in industrial applications because it is reliable, robust, and low cost. Reliability is one of the essential parameters based on which the motor is selected, and the induction motor primarily comes into force. The well-founded induction motor gives good results under various operating states. To achieve this, the values of the motor are kept in mind. Dynamic simulation plays a significant part in evaluating the model’s design process to eliminate design errors in typical construction types and when testing the motor drive system. The induction motor is modeled in a synchronously revolving rotor flux-oriented frame, which is used as a reference. For sensorless vector control and induction motor control methods, accurate knowledge of a few induction motor parameters is necessary. The presentation of the drive will degrade if the original data in the motor do not match the values utilized in the controller. Various mechanisms have been developed to calculate the online and offline parameters of the induction machine for its application in high-performance drives. The foremost grail of this review paper is to present dynamic modeling and other considerable approaches used for estimating the induction motor parameter. This paper also constitutes some simulation examples related to dynamic modeling and parameter estimation techniques, which may be useful for specialists in the field of electric drive control systems.
PV generating sources are one of the most promising power generation systems in today’s power scenario. The inherent potential barrier that PV possesses with respect to irradiation and temperature is its nonlinear power output characteristics. An intelligent power tracking scheme, e.g., maximum power point tracking (MPPT), is mandatorily employed to increase the power delivery of a PV system. The MPPT schemes experiences severe setbacks when the PV is even shaded partially as PV exhibits multiple power peaks. Therefore, the search mechanism gets deceived and gets stuck with the local maxima. Hence, a rational search mechanism should be developed, which will find the global maxima for a partially shaded PV. The conventional techniques like fractional open circuit voltage (FOCV), hill climbing (HC) method, perturb and observe (P&O), etc., even in their modified versions, are not competent enough to track the global MPP (GMPP). Nature-inspired and bio-inspired MPPT techniques have been proposed by the researchers to optimize the power output of a PV system during partially shaded conditions (PSCs). This paper reviews, compares, and analyzes them. This article renders firsthand information to those in the field of research, who seek interest in the performance enhancement of PV system during inhomogeneous irradiation. Each algorithm has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of convergence speed, coding complexity, hardware compatibility, stability, etc. Overall, the authors have presented the logic of each global search MPPT algorithms and its comparisons, and also have reviewed the performance enhancement of these techniques when these algorithms are hybridized.

Nowadays, researchers focus on the modular multilevel converter (MMC), due to its modularity structure, effective sharing of voltages among the submodule switches, and betterment in the quality of the voltage and current waveforms. First, the conventional unified power quality conditioner is developed with two level voltage source converters connected back-to-back, which are proposed to mitigate both the voltage and current related power quality problems. Later, to improve the performances (voltage sag, swell, current harmonics, etc.) of the conventional method, multilevel inverters are used. In this paper, a modified unified power quality conditioner based on a modular multilevel converter is implemented to mitigate the voltage and current related power quality issues. The design of the MMC is very simple with a modular structure, and it also improves the performance of the system compared to the conventional methods. In this proposed topology, the voltage related compensation is implemented with a seven-level MMC, and the current compensation is achieved with a reduced four switch voltage source inverter. The developed system is simulated in the MATLAB platform, and results are validated by hardware implementation with a FPGA controller. It is observed that the developed system has less % of total harmonic distortion and reduction in voltage sag as per the prescribed IEEE 519–2014 standards and practices.

Multi-level inverters have outstanding construction, making it feasible to achieve high voltage levels with less THD value. These harmonics can be mitigated by decreasing the number of voltage switches and DC links in the modified cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter. This research deals with the novel 15-level inverter and reducing the number of power switches. The proposed work consists of three simulation circuits, one with 10 switches and the second with 12 switches. The mitigation of harmonics, voltage stress, and common-mode voltage is achieved with the help of modifying the pulses of the switches in the proposed 10 switches topology. Additionally, a filter is applied at the terminal to reduce the overall THD value for variable AC load applications. The multi-level inverter can generate the high-level output with less harmonics, losses, and common-mode voltage with the help of low switching frequencies. These types of a multi-level inverters are used in renewable energy applications. Finally, the simulation of a 15-level novel inverter is carried out with the help of MATLAB/Simulink software and compared with the conventional cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter. The total harmonics distortion for modified CHBMI with 12 switches with or without filter and modified CHBMI with 10 switches with or without are mitigated as 13.53, 6.91, 12.86, and 4.56, respectively, compared to the conventional method with 28 switches. The proposed method is implemented in the hardware to validate the simulated results of the proposed topology.
