This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting the breastfeeding self-efficacy of pregnant women in the COVID-19 pandemic. This descriptive correlational study was conducted between 15 January and 15 June, 2021. The sample consisted of 320 pregnant women’, who were in their third trimester, had a single and healthy fetus, a spontaneous pregnancy and no health problems. The data of the study were collected using an Information Form and the Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale. The mean total Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale score of the participants was 79.08±13.86. The seven variables with significant effects on the mean total Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale scores of the participants were, being knowledgeable on COVID-19, thinking breastfeeding is beneficial for the baby, going to prenatal care checkups on time, gestational week, educational status, age, and receiving breastfeeding consultancy in the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially young pregnant women who have low educational status and are not experienced or knowledgeable about breastfeeding should be provided with counseling on breastfeeding. This study is believed to contribute to the literature and guide interventional studies to be conducted in the future by evaluating the prenatal breastfeeding self-efficacy levels and affecting factors.

Aim: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is frequently associated with insulin resistance (IR), even in non-obese women. The triglyceride-glucose index (TGI) has recently emerged as a potential surrogate marker of IR. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of TGI as a marker for IR in non-obese young women with PCOS.Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 84 non-obese women aged 18–35 years newly diagnosed with PCOS were compared with 73 age-matched healthy controls. TGI was calculated using fasting plasma triglycerides level and fasting plasma glucose, and values were compared between groups. The ROC curve was used to calculate the optimal TGI cut-off value and the sensitivity and specificity of this value between the PCOS and control groups. Results: No significant difference was detected between the groups in terms of age (p =0.084). TGI value was found to be 8.26 [8.14, 8.42] in the control group and 8.52 [8.46, 8.75] in the PCOS group (p<0.001). Optimal ROC cutoff value of TGI between control and PCOS groups was calculated as 8.44 with 86% sensitivity and 86% specificity (AUC: 0.904 P<0.001 95% CI 0.856-0.951).Conclusion: TGI levels are significantly higher in young, non-obese women with PCOS, suggesting that it could be a simple, cost-effective and reliable indicator of insulin resistance in this group. These findings emphasise the importance of assessing metabolic risk in non-obese patients with PCOS and indicate a possible application for TGI in routine clinical screening.

Objective The study has been conducted to identify the factors affecting the breastfeeding self-efficacy of pregnant women in the COVID-19 pandemic. Design A descriptive and correlational design has been used in this study. Setting The population of the study comprised all the pregnant women applying to the obstetrics polyclinic of a university hospital. Sample The study sample consisted of 320 pregnant women’s. Methods The data of the study were collected by using an Information Form and the Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale. Main Outcome Measures Breastfeeding self-efficacy. Results The seven variables having a significant effect on the pregnant women’s Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale scores, in the order of descending importance, have been determined as follows; being knowledgeable on COVID-19, thinking breastfeeding to be beneficial for the baby, going to prenatal care checkups on time, pregnancy duration, educational status , age, and receiving breastfeeding training in the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion Although the study findings show similarities to those of the studies conducted before the pandemic analyzing breastfeeding self-efficacy and the factors affecting it, it is an important aspect that this study has been carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is believed to contribute to the literature and guide interventional studies to be conducted in the COVİD-19 pandemic by evaluating the breastfeeding self-efficacy levels of mothers and the factors affecting them.
