The interactions of two ionic dyes, Crystal Violet and Methyl Orange, with different charged surfactants and also with a nonionic surfactant were investigated using surface tension measurements and visible spectroscopy in pre-micellar and post-micellar regions. It was found that for the water dominant phase systems the dye was localized between the polar heads, at the exterior of the direct micelle shells for all the systems. For the oil dominant phase systems, in case of the same charged dye/surfactant couples, the dye was localized in the micelle shell between the hydrocarbon chain of the surfactant nearby the hydrophilic head groups while for nonionic surfactant and oppositely charged dye/surfactant, localization of dye was between the oxyethylenic head groups towards the interior of the micelle core. Mixed aggregates of the dye and surfactant (below the critical micellar concentration of cationic surfactant), dye-surfactant ion pair and surfactant-micelles were present. The values of equilibrium constants (for TX-114/MO and TX-114/CV systems were 0.97 and 0.98, respectively), partition coefficients between the micellar and bulk water phases and standard free energy (for the nonionic systems were −12.59kJ/mol for MO and −10.97kJ/mol for CV) were calculated for all the studied systems. The partition processes were exothermic and occurred spontaneously

The influence of the surface nanostructured relief on the near IR-spectral shift and on the structural properties of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) materials doped with nanoparticles from lanthanide group has been considered. The relief mentioned above has been made on the interface between glass substrate with ITO-coatings and the LC mesophase. The specific feature of this relief is based on the applying of the contactless laser deposition technique and on the its modification by using surface electromagnetic waves (SEW) or carbon nanotubes (CNTs) treated with SEW. The modified relief permits to orient LC molecules without direct polymer orienting layers and can be used as conducting layer too. The features mentioned above lead to decrease drastically the resistivity and the bias voltage as well as that permits to increase the transparency and reveal the near IR-shift in the spectral characteristics of the lanthanide-doped LC mesophase.
New materials are obtained by transforming fly ash wastes into a valuable composite, with tandem adsorption and photodegradation properties. Mild hydrothermal synthesis, from titanium dioxide, platinum nanoparticles and zeolite materials obtained from a waste, fly ash, as support, was involved in the composite preparation. The platinum nanoparticles extended the photocatalytic activity of the composite in visible range (Eg = 2.1 eV). The efficiency of tandem adsorption and photocatalytic activity of the new composite were determined to be 25% for Bemacid Blau and 43.89% for Bemacid Rot after 360 min, the irradiation time. The addition of H2O2 improves the process efficiency up to 80.70% and 93.43%, respectively. The Pt nanoparticle (PtNP) contribution led to the band gap energy change to Vis light (400 nm), thus suggesting the possibility of photocatalysis under the action of a fraction of natural light.
