This paper investigates the link scheduling for relay-aided high-mobility vehicular networks, where the vehicles with good vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) links are employed as cooperative relay nodes to help forward information to the ones with poor V2I links over vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) links. To overcome the inefficiency of current instantaneous information rate based link scheduling (IIR-LS) method, especially in high-mobility scenarios, we propose a mobile service amount based link scheduling (MSA-LS) for high-mobility vehicular networks. We formulate an optimization problem to maximize the MSA of MSA-LS by jointly scheduling the V2I and V2V links. Since the resulted combinational optimization problem is too complex to solve, we design an efficient low-complexity algorithm, where Sort-then-Select, Hungarian algorithm, and Bisection search are employed. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed MSA-LS is able to achieve new optimal performance. It is also shown that our proposed MSA-LS is much more efficient for high-mobility vehicular systems, which can improve the system average throughput with increment of about 13% compared with existing IIR-LS and with about 22% increment compared with traditional non-cooperation scheduling.

Wireless powered communication technology has a great potential to power low-power wireless sensor networks and Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time applications in future 5G networks, where age of information (AoI) plays a very important performance metric. This paper studies the system average AoI of a wireless powered network, where a wireless-powered user harvests energy from a wireless power source (WPS) and then transmits data packets to its access point (AP) by using the harvested energy. The user generates data packets with some probability and adopts the first-come-first-served (FCFS) service policy. For such a system, by using the queuing theory and the probability models, we derive a closed-form expression of the system average AoI. We also formulate an optimization problem to minimize the AoI by optimizing the data packet generating probability, and find its solution by simple calculation and search. Simulation results demonstrate the correctness of our obtained analytical results. It also shows that, when the total distance of the two hops is fixed, the system average AoI increases linearly with the increment of the distance of the first hop, and a smaller data packet generating probability should be selected to match a bigger first-hop distance for achieving a smaller system average AoI. Moreover, a smaller data packet size also contributes to a smaller system average AoI.

Currently, the most widely used protocol for the transportation layer of computer networks for reliable transportation is the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). However, TCP has some problems such as high handshake delay, head-of-line (HOL) blocking, and so on. To solve these problems, Google proposed the Quick User Datagram Protocol Internet Connection (QUIC) protocol, which supports 0-1 round-trip time (RTT) handshake, a congestion control algorithm configuration in user mode. So far, the QUIC protocol has been integrated with traditional congestion control algorithms, which are not efficient in numerous scenarios. To solve this problem, we propose an efficient congestion control mechanism on the basis of deep reinforcement learning (DRL), i.e., proximal bandwidth-delay quick optimization (PBQ) for QUIC, which combines traditional bottleneck bandwidth and round-trip propagation time (BBR) with proximal policy optimization (PPO). In PBQ, the PPO agent outputs the congestion window (CWnd) and improves itself according to network state, and the BBR specifies the pacing rate of the client. Then, we apply the presented PBQ to QUIC and form a new version of QUIC, i.e., PBQ-enhanced QUIC. The experimental results show that the proposed PBQ-enhanced QUIC achieves much better performance in both throughput and RTT than existing popular versions of QUIC, such as QUIC with Cubic and QUIC with BBR.

This paper analyzes outage probability and reliable throughput performance of a multi-user wireless-powered communication network-simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (WPCN-SWIPT) network with the logistic function-based (LG) nonlinear energy-harvesting (EH) model in Nakagami-m fading. Power-splitting (PS) receiver architecture is considered. The closed-form expressions of the system outage probability and the system reliable throughput are derived, and then the corresponding asymptotic expressions are also provided to achieve simpler calculation in the high-transmit power scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate the correctness of our derived analytical results and show that the systems under the LG nonlinear and linear EH models have very different performance behaviors. Moreover, since the LG nonlinear EH model is closer to the features of practical EH circuit than the linear one, using the LG nonlinear EH model can avoid the false output results of the system performance evaluation.
