To avert climate change, there has been a rise in the usage of green energy sources that are also beneficial to the environment. To generate sustainable energy in a financially and technically efficient manner, our research attempts to close the gaps. The potential of green sources like photovoltaic (PV) and biomass for a rural community southwest of Sohag Al Gadida City, Sohag, Egypt, is examined in this research considering its techno-economic (TE) and eco-friendly feasibility. The HOMER Pro v3.14 package is used as a scaling and optimization instrument, to calculate the price of the PV/biomass setup and the size and characteristics of its parts. This is to estimate the corresponding electrical production and reduce the total annual cost for the customer. The suggested system structure is validated through the presentation of simulation outcomes and evaluations utilizing MATLAB/SIMULINK R2022a. In addition, a TE-environmental investigation of the optimized PV/biomass structure is performed. The optimum structure is carefully chosen from the best four configurations using the demand predilection by analogy to the perfect technique based on the generation cost, operation cost, energy production, and renewable fraction. The results also indicate that using hybrid PV/biomass is an attractive choice with the initial capital cost (ICC: USD 8.144), net present cost (NPC: USD 11,026), a low cost of energy (LCOE: 0.184 USD/kWh), and the high renewable fraction (RF: 99.9%) of the system. The annual CO2 emission performance of a PV/biomass system is much better than that of the grid alone and PV/diesel. This method might be applied in rural areas in other developing countries.

In electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid EVs, energy efficiency is essential where the energy storage is limited. Adding to its high stability and low cost, the induction motor efficiency improves with loss minimisation. Also, it can consume more power than the actual need to perform its working when it is operating in less than full load condition. This study proposes a control strategy based on the fuzzy logic control (FLC) for EV applications. FLC controller can improve the starting current amplitude and saves more power. Through the MATLAB/SIMULINK software package, the performance of this control was verified through simulation. As compared with the conventional proportional integral derivative controller, the simulation schemes show good, high‐performance results in time‐domain response and rapid rejection of system‐affected disturbance. Therefore, the core losses of the induction motor are greatly reduced, and in this way improves the efficiency of the driving system. Finally, the suggested control system is validated by the experimental results obtained in the authors’ laboratory, which are in good agreement with the simulation results.

This study explores the energy demand planning for university loads at the new Sohag University campus in Sohag Al Gadida City, Egypt. It assesses the feasibility of establishing a microgrid on a section of the campus to determine its practicality and potential benefits. The existing power distribution system is analyzed, and the suitability of various distributed generation sources, including photovoltaic, battery, and hydrogen-based microgrid, is evaluated. A techno-economic analysis is conducted to optimize microgrid sizing, using MATLAB R2023a (Optimization Toolbox) to implement a sizing algorithm for a hybrid microgrid system and HOMER Pro 3.14 for component sizing. The optimal microgrid configuration is verified based on the intended power supply potential while minimizing costs. The results demonstrate that the energy costs of the proposed hybrid microgrid system align with previously published values, confirming its feasibility. Additionally, economic analysis reveals that the proposed system not only reduces carbon emissions but also achieves cost savings of 20–30% over 20 years compared to conventional grid supply, with a payback period of 8–10 years.

This paper presents a new soft switching (SS) multiphase interleaved boost converter (MIBC) consisting of three boost converters (BCs) that operate rapidly and efficiently to charge a lithiumion battery for photovoltaic (PV) power system applications. This suggested converter can operate both active power switches at zero current switching (ZCS), and when switched off, it works at zero voltage switching (ZVS), which reduces switching losses and increases switching efficiency (SF). An interleaving structure is employed to decrease the conduction losses and reduce the input current ripple (ICR) and output voltage ripple (OVR) to increase the power rating. The suggested converter regulates the input and output power by modulating the phase shift in the pulse width modulation (PWM) technique using the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm via two closed feedback loops, one for a slower external loop and the other for a faster PWM control internal loop, similar to current mode control. The suggested converter has high voltage (HV) gain due to the coupled inductors (CIs), which act as a transformer. This magnetic design structure in both the steady-state and transient states also decreases the size and enhances the converter’s performance. Finally, the suggested converter was experimentally verified on a 285W prototype, and the maximum efficiency was found to be 98%, based on modeling and experimental data.

This study proposes a novel isolated multiport bidirectional DC/DC converter (IMBC) that combines soft-switching (SS) and resistor-capacitor-diode (RCD) snubber circuits for battery charge and discharge applications in photovoltaic (PV) power systems. The proposed SS circuit operates at zero-current (ZC) switching (ZCS) when the switches are on to reduce the switching losses. The RCD snubber circuit also suppresses the overvoltage when turning off switches. Combining the two circuits also enables a more comprehensive operating range for SS, resulting in low losses and high efficiency. A thorough study of operating systems and design considerations is shown. PSIM illustrates the effectiveness of the suggested control method. A prototype of the suggested IMBC with an output voltage of 120 V and an output power of 150 W is constructed to confirm the viability and efficiency of the suggested topology. The maximum efficacy of the suggested topology in the step-up mode for the PV arrays is about 96.4% at an input voltage of 20.5 V and output power of 150 W. In comparison, the efficiency is about 98.5% in the step-down mode for charging and discharging the battery which is considered a highly satisfactory performance.
