Despite the rapid evolution of Internet protocol-based messaging services, SMS still remains an indisputable communication service in our lives until today. For example, several businesses consider that text messages are more effective than e-mails. This is because 82% of SMSs are read within 5 min., but consumers only open one in four e-mails they receive. The importance of SMS for mobile phone users has attracted the attention of spammers. In fact, the volume of SMS spam has increased considerably in recent years with the emergence of new security threats, such as SMiShing. In this paper, we propose a hybrid deep learning model for detecting SMS spam messages. This detection model is based on the combination of two deep learning methods CNN and LSTM. It is intended to deal with mixed text messages that are written in Arabic or English. For the comparative evaluation, we also tested other well-known machine learning algorithms. The experimental results that we present in this paper show that our CNN-LSTM model outperforms the other algorithms. It achieved a very good accuracy of 98.37%.

Computer science plays an important role in modern dynamic health systems. Given the collaborative nature of the diagnostic process, computer technology provides important services to healthcare professionals and organizations, as well as to patients and their families, researchers, and decision-makers. Thus, any innovations that improve the diagnostic process while maintaining quality and safety are crucial to the development of the healthcare field. Many diseases can be tentatively diagnosed during their initial stages. In this study, all developed techniques were applied to tuberculosis (TB). Thus, we propose an optimized machine learning-based model that extracts optimal texture features from TB-related images and selects the hyper-parameters of the classifiers. Increasing the accuracy rate and minimizing the number of characteristics extracted are our goals. In other words, this is a multitask optimization issue. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to choose the best features, which are then fed into a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. Using the ImageCLEF 2020 data set, we conducted experiments using the proposed approach and achieved significantly higher accuracy and better outcomes in comparison with the state-of-the-art works. The obtained experimental results highlight the efficiency of modified SVM classifier compared with other standard ones.

Background: Medical diagnosis for skin diseases, including leukemia, early skin cancer, benign neoplasms, and alternative disorders, becomes difficult because of external variations among groups of patients. A research goal is to create a fusion-level deep learning model that improves stability and skin disease classification performance. Methods: The model design merges three convolutional neural networks (CNNs): EfficientNet-B0, EfficientNet-B2, and ResNet50, which operate independently under distinct branches. The neural network model uses its capability to extract detailed features from multiple strong architectures to reach accurate results along with tight classification precision. A fusion mechanism completes its operation by transmitting extracted features to dense and dropout layers for generalization and reduced dimensionality. Analyses for this research utilized the 27,153-image Kaggle Skin Diseases Image Dataset, which distributed testing materials into training (80%), validation (10%), and testing (10%) portions for ten skin disorder classes. Results: Evaluation of the proposed model revealed 99.14% accuracy together with excellent precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Conclusions: The proposed deep learning approach demonstrates strong potential as a starting point for dermatological diagnosis automation since it shows promise for clinical use in skin disease classification.

Background: In recent years, the healthcare field has experienced significant advancements. New diagnostic techniques, treatments, and insights into the causes of various diseases have emerged. Despite these progressions, cancer remains a major concern. It is a widespread illness affecting individuals of all ages and leads to one out of every six deaths. Lung and colon cancer alone account for nearly two million fatalities. Though it is rare for lung and colon cancers to co-occur, the spread of cancer cells between these two areas—known as metastasis—is notably high. Early detection of cancer greatly increases survival rates. Currently, histopathological image (HI) diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key methods for reducing cancer mortality and enhancing survival rates. Digital image processing (DIP) and deep learning (DL) algorithms can be employed to analyze the HIs of five different types of lung and colon tissues. Methods: Therefore, this paper proposes a refined DL model that integrates feature fusion for the multi-classification of lung and colon cancers. The proposed model incorporates three DL architectures: ResNet-101V2, NASNetMobile, and EfficientNet-B0. Each model has limitations concerning variations in the shape and texture of input images. To address this, the proposed model utilizes a concatenate layer to merge the pre-trained individual feature vectors from ResNet-101V2, NASNetMobile, and EfficientNet-B0 into a single feature vector, which is then fine-tuned. As a result, the proposed DL model achieves high success in multi-classification by leveraging the strengths of all three models to enhance overall accuracy. This model aims to assist pathologists in the early detection of lung and colon cancer with reduced effort, time, and cost. The proposed DL model was evaluated using the LC25000 dataset, which contains colon and lung HIs. The dataset was pre-processed using resizing and normalization techniques. Results: The model was tested and compared with recent DL models, achieving impressive results: 99.8% for precision, 99.8% for recall, 99.8% for F1-score, 99.96% for specificity, and 99.94% for accuracy. Conclusions: Thus, the proposed DL model demonstrates exceptional performance across all classification categories.

Peptic ulcers and stomach cancer are common conditions that impact the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) has emerged as a widely used, noninvasive technique for diagnosing these issues, providing valuable insights through the detailed imaging of the GI tract. Therefore, an early and accurate diagnosis of GI diseases is crucial for effective treatment. This paper introduces the Intelligent Learning Rate Controller (ILRC) mechanism that optimizes the training of deep learning (DL) models by adaptively adjusting the learning rate (LR) based on training progress. This helps improve convergence speed and reduce the risk of overfitting. The ILRC was applied to four DL models: EfficientNet-B0, ResNet101v2, InceptionV3, and InceptionResNetV2. These models were further enhanced using transfer learning, freezing layers, fine-tuning techniques, residual learning, and modern regularization methods. The models were evaluated on two datasets, the Kvasir-Capsule and KVASIR v2 datasets, which contain WCE images. The results demonstrated that the models, particularly when using ILRC, outperformed existing state-of-the-art methods in accuracy. On the Kvasir-Capsule dataset, the models achieved accuracies of up to 99.906%, and on the Kvasir-v2 dataset, they achieved up to 98.062%. This combination of techniques offers a robust solution for automating the detection of GI abnormalities in WCE images, significantly enhancing diagnostic efficiency and accuracy in clinical settings.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs, but it can also impact other parts of the body, such as the brain, bones, and kidneys. The disease is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. TB can be inactive or active; in its active state, noticeable symptoms appear, and it can be transmitted to others. There are ongoing challenges in fighting TB, including resistance to medications, co-infections, and limited resources in areas heavily affected by the disease. These issues make it challenging to eradicate TB. Objective: Timely and precise diagnosis is essential for effective control, especially since TB often goes undetected and untreated, particularly in remote and under-resourced locations. Chest X-ray (CXR) images are commonly used to diagnose TB. However, difficulties can arise due to unusual findings on X-rays and a shortage of radiologists in high-infection areas. Method: To address these challenges, a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system that uses the vision transformer (ViT) technique has been developed to accurately identify TB in CXR images. This innovative hybrid CAD approach combines ViT with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and machine learning (ML) techniques for TB classification, introducing a new method in this field. In the hybrid CAD system, ViT is used for deep feature extraction as a base model, PCA is used to reduce feature dimensions, and various ML methods are used to classify TB. This system allows for quickly identifying TB, enabling timely medical action and improving patient outcomes. Additionally, it streamlines the diagnostic process, reducing time and costs for patients and lessening the workload on healthcare professionals. The TB chest X-ray dataset was utilized to train and evaluate the proposed CAD system, which underwent pre-processing techniques like resizing, scaling, and noise removal to improve diagnostic accuracy. Results: The performance of our CAD model was assessed against existing models, yielding excellent results. The model achieved remarkable metrics: an average precision of 99.90%, recall of 99.52%, F1-score of 99.71%, accuracy of 99.84%, false negative rate (FNR) of 0.48%, specificity of 99.52%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 99.90%. Conclusions: This evaluation highlights the superior performance of our model compared to the latest available classifiers.
