Alessandro Cavallo is an Associate Professor of the academic sector GEO-09 (Mineral Georesources and Mineralogic-Petrographic Applications for the Environment and Cultural Heritage). He got his degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Milan in 2001 and his PhD in Earth Sciences in 2005 at the University of Milan. From 2001 to 2005, he was employed as a technician in applied geology and geophysics studies. In particular, he worked on the research and characterization of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs); sustainable mining and circular economy; the characterization of ore and industrial minerals, quarries and mines; the recovery of tailings and mining wastes; dimension stones (stones, marbles and granites); naturally occurring asbestos (NOA); regulated and non-regulated mineral fibers; industrial hygiene construction and building materials (lime, cement, aggregates); as well as collaboration in several national and international research projects. He actively collaborates with several research institutions, as well as being a scientific referee for commissioned research contracts with many private companies in the mining, quarrying, construction and environmental sectors. He is the scientific head of the SEM-EDS and XRD laboratory for the analysis of asbestos-containing materials.
