Accurate and reliable traffic flow forecasting is of importance for urban planning and mitigation of traffic congestion, and it is also the basis for the deployment of intelligent traffic management systems. However, constructing a reasonable and robust forecasting model is a challenging task due to the uncertainties and nonlinear characteristics of traffic flow. Aiming at the nonlinear relationship affecting traffic flow forecasting effect, a PSO-ELM model based on particle swarm optimization is proposed for short-term traffic flow forecasting, which takes the advantages of particle swarm optimization to search global optimal solution and extreme learning machine to fast deal with the nonlinear relationship. The proposed model improves the accuracy of traffic flow forecasting. The traffic flow data from highways A1, A2, A4, A8 connecting to Amsterdam’s ring road are employed for the case study. The RMSEs of PSO-ELM model are respectively 252.61, 173.75, 200.24, 146.05, while the MAPEs of PSO-ELM model are respectively 11.86%, 10.10%, 10.74%, 11.60%. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposal is significantly better than the performance of state-of-the-art models.

Numerous problems in many fields can be solved effectively through the approach of modeling by complex network analysis. Finding key nodes is one of the most important and challenging problems in network analysis. In previous studies, methods have been proposed to identify key nodes. However, they rely mainly on a limited field of local information, lack large-scale access to global information, and are also usually NP-hard. In this paper, a novel entropy and mutual information-based centrality approach (EMI) is proposed, which attempts to capture a far wider range and a greater abundance of information for assessing how vital a node is. We have developed countermeasures to assess the influence of nodes: EMI is no longer confined to neighbor nodes, and both topological and digital network characteristics are taken into account. We employ mutual information to fix a flaw that exists in many methods. Experiments on real-world connected networks demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed approach in both correctness and efficiency as compared with previous approaches.

Anomaly detection in network traffic is becoming a challenging task due to the complexity of large-scale networks and the proliferation of various social network applications. In the actual industrial environment, only recently obtained unlabelled data can be used as the training set. The accuracy of the abnormal ratio in the training set as prior knowledge has a great influence on the performance of the commonly used unsupervised algorithms. In this study, an anomaly detection algorithm based on X-means and iForest is proposed, named X-iForest, which clusters the standard Euclidean distance between the abnormal points and the normal cluster centre to achieve secondary filtering by using X-means. We compared X-iForest with seven mainstream unsupervised algorithms in terms of the AUC and anomaly detection rates. A large number of experiments showed that X-iForest has notable advantages over other algorithms and can be well applied to anomaly detection of large-scale network traffic data.

Personalized quality of service (QoS) prediction plays an important role in helping users build high-quality service-oriented systems. To obtain accurate prediction results, many approaches have been investigated in recent years. However, these approaches do not fully address untrustworthy QoS values submitted by unreliable users, leading to inaccurate predictions. To address this issue, inspired by blockchain with distributed ledger technology, distributed consensus mechanisms, encryption algorithms, etc., we propose a personalized QoS prediction method for web services that we call blockchain-based matrix factorization (BMF). We develop a user verification approach based on homomorphic hash, and use the Byzantine agreement to remove unreliable users. Then, matrix factorization is employed to improve the accuracy of predictions and we evaluate the proposed BMF on a real-world web services dataset. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms existing approaches, making it much more effective than traditional techniques.

With the growing recognition of the unique advantages of reinforcement learning and genetic algorithms in addressing combinatorial optimization problems, this study aims to integrate these two methods to collectively tackle the classic combinatorial optimization challenge of the travelling salesman problem (TSP). The TSP stands as a quintessential combinatorial optimization challenge, tasked with determining the shortest path among designated cities. This paper introduces an innovative approach by amalgamating reinforcement learning's path selection prowess with genetic algorithms' global search strategy, aiming to uncover superior solutions in TSP. Specifically, the experiment employs a dual Q‐learning algorithm within reinforcement learning to identify multiple optimal paths, serving as progenitors for the genetic algorithm to further enhance performance. The paper meticulously outlines the problem modelling process, elucidating TSP instance definitions, descriptions, and precise objective function definitions. Experimental findings underscore the substantial enhancements achievable in TSP optimization through this comprehensive approach, offering a fresh perspective and methodology for tackling combinatorial optimization challenges.

User reliability is notably crucial for personalized cloud services. In cloud computing environments, large amounts of cloud services are provided for users. With the exponential increase in number of cloud services, it is difficult for users to select the appropriate services from equivalent or similar candidate services. The quality-of-service (QoS) has become an important criterion for selection, and the users can conduct personalized selection according to the observed QoS data of other users; however, it is difficult to ensure that the users are reliable. Actually, unreliable users may provide unreliable QoS data and have negative effects on the personalized cloud service selection. Therefore, how to determine reliable QoS data for personalized cloud service selection remains a significant problem. To measure the reliability for each user, we present a cloud service selection framework based on user reputation and propose a new user reputation calculation approach, which is named MeURep and includes L1-MeURep and L2-MeURep. Experiments are conducted, and the results confirm that MeURep has higher efficiency than previously proposed approaches.
