1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane (RDX) is a type of high energy explosive, its application in weapon systems is limited by its high mechanical sensitivity. At the same time, 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene (FOX-7) is a famous insensitive explosive. The preparation of RDX@FOX-7 composites can meet the requirements, high energy and low sensitivity, of the weapon systems. It is difficult for the reactor to achieve uniform quality of composite material, which affects its application performance. Based on the principle of solvent-anti-solvent, the recrystallization process was precisely controlled by microfluidic technology. The RDX@FOX-7 composites with different mass ratios were prepared. At the mass ratio of 10%, the RDX@FOX-7 composites are ellipsoid of about 15 μm with uniform distribution and quality. The advantages of microscale fabrication of composite materials were verified. The results of structure characterization showed that there is no new bond formation in RDX@FOX-7, but the distribution of two components on the surface of the composite was uniform. Based on the structure characterization, we established the structure model of RDX@RDX-7 and speculated the formation process of the composites in microscale. With the increase of FOX-7 mass ratios, the melting temperature of RDX was advanced, the thermal decomposition peak of RDX changed to double peaks, and the activation energy of RDX@FOX-7 composite decreased. These changes were more pronounced between 3 and 10% but not between 10 and 30%. The ignition delay time of RDX@FOX-7 was shorter than that of RDX and FOX-7. RDX@FOX-7 burned more completely than RDX indicating that FOX-7 can assist heat transfer and improve the combustion efficiency of RDX.

Aluminum hydride (AlH3) has attracted wide attention due to its high gravimetric and volumetric hydrogen capacity. AlH3 can easily release hydrogen when heated at relatively low temperature. Such high hydrogen density and low dehydrogenation temperature make it one of the most promising high-energy fuels for solid propellants. In particular, AlH3 as a component of solid propellants may greatly increase the specific impulse of rocket engines. However, AlH3 exhibits low chemical and thermal stability in an ambient atmosphere. In this paper, the research progress about the synthesis, dehydrogenation thermodynamics, and kinetics, the stabilization of AlH3 over the past decades are reviewed, with the aim of exploring more a economical synthesis and suitable stabilization methods for large-scale use in solid propellants. Finally, some suggestions regarding future research directions in this filed are proposed.

Ammonia is carbon-free and is a very promising renewable fuel. The ammonia/diesel dual-fuel combustion strategy is an important combustion strategy for ammonia internal combustion engines. To achieve clean and efficient combustion with a high ammonia blending ratio in ammonia engines, it is important to thoroughly investigate the combustion characteristics and chemical reaction mechanisms of ammonia/diesel fuel blends. Based on the constant volume combustion vessel experiments, the laminar burning velocities (LBVs) of ammonia/n-heptane blends were measured at the conditions of an ammonia–energy ratio of 60–100%, at initial pressures of 0.1–0.5 MPa and initial temperatures of 338–408 K, and under an equivalence ratio regime of 0.8–1.3. The experimental results indicate that the laminar burning velocities of ammonia/n-heptane fuel blends increase with a decreasing ammonia–energy ratio. Specifically, with an ammonia–energy ratio of 60%, an initial temperature of 373 K, an initial pressure of 0.1 MPa, and an equivalence ratio of 1.1, the measured LBV is approximately 20 cm/s, which is about 61% faster than that of pure ammonia flames under the same conditions. A previously developed chemical kinetic mechanism is employed to simulate the new experimental data, and the model exhibits overall good performance. The sensitivity analyses have been conducted to highlight the important reaction pathways. The elementary reaction O2 + Ḣ<=>Ö + ȮH demonstrates the most significant promotional effect on the laminar burning velocities, while the interaction reaction pathways of via H-abstraction from n-heptane by ṄH2 radicals are not showing obvious effects on the simulation results under the studied conditions.
