Dr Eleftheria Bempelou is an Assistant Researcher at the Benaki Phytopathological Institute (BPI, Athens, Greece) with professional experience in the field of development of analytical methods for the determination of residues of pesticides and xenobiotic compounds in plant and animal matrices, water and soil and plant protection products. She is an Agronomist with a PhD in Pesticide Science in Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) and a MSc in Crop Science. She was the Group Leader in an EU funded LIFE project (LIFE BIODELEAR) as well as in other national research projects and participates as a researcher in national or European projects. She has participated as a national residue expert in national and European committees and EFSA meetings in the field of metabolism, residues and consumer safety, as well as in training workshops of the European Reference Laboratories for residues. She has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and has presented in national, European and international conferences. She has been an invited speaker in the Agricultural University of Athens since 2014, giving lectures on analytical methodology for the determination of pesticide residues.
