A 10-week trial was performed to investigate the effects of replacing fishmeal with cottonseed meal (CSM) on the growth rate, protein metabolism, and antioxidant response of Asian red-tailed catfish Hemibagrus wyckioides. Five isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets (C0, C8.5, C17.2, C25.7, and C34.4) were prepared to contain 0%, 8.5%, 17.2%, 25.7%, and 34.4% CSM replacing fishmeal, respectively. The weight gain, daily growth coefficient, pepsin, and intestinal amylase activities initially increased and then decreased with the raising dietary CSM levels; the highest values were observed in the C17.2 group ( ). However, feed cost exhibited the opposite trend. With the increasing dietary CSM levels, the protein efficiency ratio and intestinal trypsin activity decreased but feed conversion rate increased gradually; while no differences were observed among the C0, C8.5, and C17.2 groups ( ). Dietary CSM inclusion regardless of levels increased the plasma growth hormone level as well as hepatic aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activities but decreased the plasma glutamate dehydrogenase and AST activities ( ). With the increasing dietary CSM levels, the plasma alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and hepatic superoxide dismutase activities decreased but malondialdehyde content increased gradually, while no differences were observed among the C0, C8.5, and C17.2 groups ( ). The plasma immunoglobulin M content and hepatic glutathione reductase activity initially increased but then decreased with the raising dietary CSM levels; the highest values were found in the C17.2 group. These results indicated that dietary CSM inclusion level up to 17.2% improved the growth rate, feed cost, digestive enzyme activity, and protein metabolism without compromising antioxidant capacity of H. wyckioide, whereas these parameters were depressed by further inclusion of CSM. CSM is a potentially cost-effective alternative plant protein source in diet of H. wyckioide.

Grading tea leaves efficiently in a natural environment is a crucial technological foundation for the automation of tea-picking robots. In this study, to solve the problems of dense distribution, limited feature-extraction ability, and false detection in the field of tea grading recognition, an improved YOLOv8n model for tea grading and counting recognition was proposed. Firstly, the SPD-Conv module was embedded into the backbone of the network model to enhance the deep feature-extraction ability of the target. Secondly, the Super-Token Vision Transformer was integrated to reduce the model’s attention to redundant information, thus improving its perception ability for tea. Subsequently, the loss function was improved to MPDIoU, which accelerated the convergence speed and optimized the performance. Finally, a classification-positioning counting function was added to achieve the purpose of classification counting. The experimental results showed that, compared to the original model, the precision, recall and average precision improved by 17.6%, 19.3%, and 18.7%, respectively. The average precision of single bud, one bud with one leaf, and one bud with two leaves were 88.5%, 89.5% and 89.1%. In this study, the improved model demonstrated strong robustness and proved suitable for tea grading and edge-picking equipment, laying a solid foundation for the mechanization of the tea industry.

The primary objective of this research was to develop an efficient method for accurately identifying and localizing weeds in ecological tea garden environments, aiming to enhance the quality and yield of tea production. Weed competition poses a significant challenge to tea production, particularly due to the small size of weed plants, their color similarity to tea trees, and the complexity of their growth environment. A dataset comprising 5366 high-definition images of weeds in tea gardens has been compiled to address this challenge. An enhanced U-Net model, incorporating a Double Attention Mechanism and an Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling module, is proposed for weed recognition. The results of the ablation experiments show that the model significantly improves the recognition accuracy and the Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU), which are enhanced by 4.08% and 5.22%, respectively. In addition, to meet the demand for precise weed management, a method for determining the center of weed plants by integrating the center of mass and skeleton structure has been developed. The skeleton was extracted through a preprocessing step and a refinement algorithm, and the relative positional relationship between the intersection point of the skeleton and the center of mass was cleverly utilized to achieve up to 82% localization accuracy. These results provide technical support for the research and development of intelligent weeding equipment for tea gardens, which helps to maintain the ecology of tea gardens and improve production efficiency and also provides a reference for weed management in other natural ecological environments.

To achieve an efficient, non-destructive, and intelligent identification of tea plant seedlings under high-temperature stress, this study proposes an improved YOLOv11 model based on chlorophyll fluorescence imaging technology for intelligent identification. Using tea plant seedlings under varying degrees of high temperature as the research objects, raw fluorescence images were acquired through a chlorophyll fluorescence image acquisition device. The fluorescence parameters obtained by Spearman correlation analysis were found to be the maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), and the fluorescence image of this parameter is used to construct the dataset. The YOLOv11 model was improved in the following ways. First, to reduce the number of network parameters and maintain a low computational cost, the lightweight MobileNetV4 network was introduced into the YOLOv11 model as a new backbone network. Second, to achieve efficient feature upsampling, enhance the efficiency and accuracy of feature extraction, and reduce computational redundancy and memory access volume, the EUCB (Efficient Up Convolution Block), iRMB (Inverted Residual Mobile Block), and PConv (Partial Convolution) modules were introduced into the YOLOv11 model. The research results show that the improved YOLOv11-MEIP model has the best performance, with precision, recall, and mAP50 reaching 99.25%, 99.19%, and 99.46%, respectively. Compared with the YOLOv11 model, the improved YOLOv11-MEIP model achieved increases of 4.05%, 7.86%, and 3.42% in precision, recall, and mAP50, respectively. Additionally, the number of model parameters was reduced by 29.45%. This study provides a new intelligent method for the classification of high-temperature stress levels of tea seedlings, as well as state detection and identification, and provides new theoretical support and technical reference for the monitoring and prevention of tea plants and other crops in tea gardens under high temperatures.

In modern agriculture, reducing the internal moisture content of crop seeds is essential to enhance the activity and mobility of seed oil molecules, thereby increasing oil yield while minimizing the risk of mold and deterioration. However, traditional drying methods often result in uneven heating, leading to seed scorching and diminished drying efficiency and economic returns. To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel thin-layer seed drying system incorporating a redesigned drying tray structure. Specifically, the system places the seed-bearing tray beneath a vibration module operating at a predetermined frequency. The vibration mechanism induces the uniform motion of the seeds, thereby preventing localized overheating (scalding) and enabling automatic weighing for the real-time monitoring of moisture reduction during the drying process. The advancement of wireless sensor technologies in agriculture has enabled the deployment of more refined, large-scale monitoring networks. In this work, a commercial chip-based piezoelectric vibration detection device was integrated into the experimental setup to collect time-domain response signals resulting from interactions among seeds, impurities, and the drying tray. These signals were used to construct a comprehensive database of seed collision signatures. To mitigate discontinuities in signal transmission caused by vibration and potential equipment failure, the shortest routing protocol (SRP) was implemented. Additionally, the system outage probability (OP) and a refined closed-form solution for signal transmission reliability were derived under a Rayleigh fading channel model. To validate the proposed method, a series of experiments were conducted to determine the optimal vibration frequencies for various seed types. The results demonstrated a reduction in seed scalding rate to 1.5%, a decrease in seed loss rate to 0.4%, and an increase in moisture monitoring accuracy to 97.0%. Compared to traditional drying approaches, the vibrating drying tray substantially reduced seed loss and effectively distinguished between seeds and impurities. Furthermore, the approach shows strong potential for broader applications in seed classification and moisture detection across different crop types.
