In order to solve the problem of an accurate recognition of tea picking through tea picking robots, an edge device detection method is proposed in this paper based on ShuffleNetv2-YOLOv5-Lite-E for tea with one bud and two leaves. This replaces the original feature extraction network by removing the Focus layer and using the ShuffleNetv2 algorithm, followed by a channel pruning of YOLOv5 at the neck layer head, thus achieving the purpose of reducing the model size. The results show that the size of the improved generated weight file is 27% of that of the original YOLOv5 model, and the mAP value of ShuffleNetv2-YOLOv5-Lite-E is 97.43% and 94.52% on the pc and edge device respectively, which are 1.32% and 1.75% lower compared to that of the original YOLOv5 model. The detection speeds of ShuffleNetv2-YOLOv5-Lite-E, YOLOv5, YOLOv4, and YOLOv3 were 8.6 fps, 2.7 fps, 3.2 fps, and 3.4 fps respectively after importing the models into an edge device, and the improved YOLOv5 detection speed was 3.2 times faster than that of the original YOLOv5 model. Through the detection method, the size of the original YOLOv5 model is effectively reduced while essentially ensuring recognition accuracy. The detection speed is also significantly improved, which is conducive to the realization of intelligent and accurate picking for future tea gardens, laying a solid foundation for the realization of tea picking robots.

Aiming at the problems of insufficient detection accuracy and high false detection rates of traditional pest detection models in the face of small targets and incomplete targets, this study proposes an improved target detection network, I-YOLOv10-SC. The network leverages Space-to-Depth Convolution to enhance its capability in detecting small insect targets. The Convolutional Block Attention Module is employed to improve feature representation and attention focus. Additionally, Shape Weights and Scale Adjustment Factors are introduced to optimize the loss function. The experimental results show that compared with the original YOLOv10, the model generated by the improved algorithm improves the accuracy by 5.88 percentage points, the recall rate by 6.67 percentage points, the balance score by 6.27 percentage points, the mAP value by 4.26 percentage points, the bounding box loss by 18.75%, the classification loss by 27.27%, and the feature point loss by 8%. The model oscillation has also been significantly improved. The enhanced I-YOLOv10-SC network effectively addresses the challenges of detecting small and incomplete insect targets in tea plantations, offering high precision and recall rates, thus providing a solid technical foundation for intelligent pest monitoring and precise prevention in smart tea gardens.

To explore the effects of different withering methods on the quality of Congou black tea, this study focused on five different withering methods: natural withering, warm-air withering, sun–natural combined withering, sun withering, and shaking withering. Gas chromatography‒mass spectrometry (GC‒MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and ion-exchange chromatography techniques were used to analyze the nonvolatile and volatile components and composition of the tea. The results revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) in the contents of nonvolatile constituents including caffeine, polyphenols, soluble sugars, free amino acids and their components, theaflavins, thearubigins, and catechins among the five different withering methods, with varying degrees of correlation between these components. A total of 227 aroma compounds were detected, and significant differences in the contents of alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones were observed. A relative odor activity value (ROVA) analysis of the aroma compounds revealed that 19 compounds had an ROVA > 1. Among them, benzylaldehyde, trans-2-decenal, decanal, benzaldehyde, nonanal, hexanal, trans-linalool, and geraniol from the shaking withering method had significantly higher ROVA values than those from the other withering methods, which may be the reason for the prominent floral and fruity aroma of shaking withering. This study revealed the impact of different withering methods on the quality of Congou black tea, providing a scientific basis for the development of Congou black tea with different flavors and the improvement of Congou black tea processing techniques.

To elucidate the regional flavor characteristics of sun-dried green tea (SDT) and their underlying influencing factors, a comprehensive analysis was conducted using metabolomics and flavoromics approaches. This study systematically examined SDT samples and their corresponding tea garden soils from 13 distinct regions in Yunnan Province. The results revealed that the SDT samples could be classified into two distinct groups based on their flavor profiles. Compared to the regions of Pa Sha (PS), Bang Dong (BD), Dong Ban Shan (DBS), Dong Guo (DG), Su Hu (SH), Gua Feng Zhai (GFZ), and Wu Liang Shan (WLS), the regions of Xin Nong (XN), Ba Ka Nuan (BKN), Mang Ang (MA), Man Nuan (MN), Bing Dao (BDao), and Bin Shan (BS) exhibited a significant upregulation of the tea polyphenols (TP)/free amino acids (FAA) ratio. The former group was characterized by a sweet mellow taste, while the latter displayed a stronger taste profile. Furthermore, the analysis of volatile compounds demonstrated that geraniol and linalool were significantly upregulated in the PS, BD, DBS, DG, BS, and BDao regions, which were associated with tender and floral aromas. In contrast, isophorone, 2-pentyl furan, 1-octanol, D-limonene, and benzaldehyde were markedly enriched in the XN, BKN, MA, MN, SH, GFZ, and WLS regions, contributing to sweet and honey-like aromatic profiles. Altitude and mineral element phosphorus are potential key factors affecting the regional flavor differences in SDT. Specifically, SDT cultivated at higher altitudes and in soils with elevated available phosphorus content exhibited a greater likelihood of accumulating sweet mellow and floral compounds. This study provides scientific evidence for understanding the characteristic flavor profiles of SDT across different regions, offering valuable insights into the factors contributing to regional flavor differentiation in tea production.

To address the problem of detecting foreign bodies in Pu-erh tea, this study proposes an intelligent detection method based on an improved YOLOv10 network. By introducing the MPDIoU loss function, the YOLOv10 network is optimized to effectively enhance the positioning accuracy of the model in complex background and improve detection of small target foreign objects. Using AssemFormer to optimize the structure, the network’s ability to perceive small target foreign objects and its ability to process global information are improved. By introducing the Rectangular Self-Calibrated Module, the prediction accuracy of the bounding box is effectively optimized, further improving the classification and target-positioning abilities of the model in complex scenes. The results showed that the Box, Cls, and Dfl loss functions of the CV-YOLOv10-AR-M network in the One-to-Many Head task were, respectively, 14.60%, 19.74%, and 20.15% lower than those of the YOLOv10 network. In the One-to-One Head task, they decreased by 10.42%, 29.11%, and 20.15%, respectively. Compared with the original YOLOv10 network, the accuracy, recall rate, and mAP of the CV-YOLOv10-AR-M network were increased by 5.35%, 11.72% and 8.32%, respectively. The CV-YOLOv10-AR-M network effectively improves the model’s attention to small sizes, complex backgrounds, and detailed information, providing effective technical support for intelligent quality control in the agricultural field.

To achieve an efficient, non-destructive, and intelligent identification of tea plant seedlings under high-temperature stress, this study proposes an improved YOLOv11 model based on chlorophyll fluorescence imaging technology for intelligent identification. Using tea plant seedlings under varying degrees of high temperature as the research objects, raw fluorescence images were acquired through a chlorophyll fluorescence image acquisition device. The fluorescence parameters obtained by Spearman correlation analysis were found to be the maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), and the fluorescence image of this parameter is used to construct the dataset. The YOLOv11 model was improved in the following ways. First, to reduce the number of network parameters and maintain a low computational cost, the lightweight MobileNetV4 network was introduced into the YOLOv11 model as a new backbone network. Second, to achieve efficient feature upsampling, enhance the efficiency and accuracy of feature extraction, and reduce computational redundancy and memory access volume, the EUCB (Efficient Up Convolution Block), iRMB (Inverted Residual Mobile Block), and PConv (Partial Convolution) modules were introduced into the YOLOv11 model. The research results show that the improved YOLOv11-MEIP model has the best performance, with precision, recall, and mAP50 reaching 99.25%, 99.19%, and 99.46%, respectively. Compared with the YOLOv11 model, the improved YOLOv11-MEIP model achieved increases of 4.05%, 7.86%, and 3.42% in precision, recall, and mAP50, respectively. Additionally, the number of model parameters was reduced by 29.45%. This study provides a new intelligent method for the classification of high-temperature stress levels of tea seedlings, as well as state detection and identification, and provides new theoretical support and technical reference for the monitoring and prevention of tea plants and other crops in tea gardens under high temperatures.
