This review comprehensively examines the burgeoning field of intelligent techniques to enhance power systems’ stability, control, and protection. As global energy demands increase and renewable energy sources become more integrated, maintaining the stability and reliability of both conventional power systems and smart grids is crucial. Traditional methods are increasingly insufficient for handling today’s power grids’ complex, dynamic nature. This paper discusses the adoption of advanced intelligence methods, including artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning (DL), machine learning (ML), metaheuristic optimization algorithms, and other AI techniques such as fuzzy logic, reinforcement learning, and model predictive control to address these challenges. It underscores the critical importance of power system stability and the new challenges of integrating diverse energy sources. The paper reviews various intelligent methods used in power system analysis, emphasizing their roles in predictive maintenance, fault detection, real-time control, and monitoring. It details extensive research on the capabilities of AI and ML algorithms to enhance the precision and efficiency of protection systems, showing their effectiveness in accurately identifying and resolving faults. Additionally, it explores the potential of fuzzy logic in decision-making under uncertainty, reinforcement learning for dynamic stability control, and the integration of IoT and big data analytics for real-time system monitoring and optimization. Case studies from the literature are presented, offering valuable insights into practical applications. The review concludes by identifying current limitations and suggesting areas for future research, highlighting the need for more robust, flexible, and scalable intelligent systems in the power sector. This paper is a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and policymakers, providing a detailed understanding of the current and future potential of intelligent techniques in power system stability, control, and protection.

With the rapid development of modern energy applications such as renewable energy, PV systems, electric vehicles, and smart grids, DC-DC converters have become the key component to meet strict industrial demands. More advanced converters are effective in minimizing switching losses and providing an efficient energy conversion; nonetheless, the main challenge is to provide a single converter that has all the required features to deliver efficient energy for different types of modern energy systems and energy storage system integrations. This paper reviews multilevel, bidirectional, and resonant converters with respect to their constructions, classifications, merits, demerits, combined topologies, applications, and challenges; practical recommendations were also made to deliver clear ideas of the recent challenges and limited capabilities of these three converters to guide society on improving and providing a new, efficient, and economic converter that meets the strict demands of modern energy system integrations. The needs of other industrial applications, as well as the number of used elements for size and weight reduction, were also considered to achieve a power circuit that can effectively address the identified limitations. In brief, integrated bidirectional resonant DC-DC converters and multilevel inverters are expected to be well suited and highly demanded in various applications in the near future. Due to their highlighted merits, more studies are necessary for achieving a perfect level of reducing losses and components.

The existence of solid-phase nanoparticles remarkably improves the thermal conductivity of the fluids. The enhancement in this property of the nanofluids is affected by different items such as the solid-phase volume fraction and dimensions, temperature, etc. In the current paper, three different mathematical models, including polynomial correlation, Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline (MARS), and Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH), are applied to forecast the thermal conductivity of nanofluids containing MgO particles. The inputs of the model are the base fluid thermal conductivity, volume concentration, and average dimension of solid-phase, and nanofluids’ temperature. Comparing the proposed models revealed higher confidence of GMDH in estimating the thermal conductivity, which is attributed to its complicated structure and more appropriate consideration of the input’s interaction. The values of R-squared for the correlation, MARS, and GMDH are 0.9949, 0.9952, and 0.9991, respectively. In addition, based on the sensitivity analysis, the effect of thermal conductivity of the base fluid on the overall thermal conductivity of nanofluids is more remarkable compared with the other inputs such as volume fraction, temperature, and dimensions of the particles which are used as the inputs of the models.
