The aim of the research was to check the possibility of using the non-destructive method of acoustic emission to assess the condition of concrete without dispersed reinforcement and with various additions of curved steel fibres, during three-point bending. An important aspect of the research proposed in the article is the use of a hybrid method of analysis, which involves complementing the results of strength tests, the results of numerical calculations and the results of strain distributions recorded with a digital image correlation system (DIC System, in this research GOM Suite optical system). The operation of the concrete material under load, depending on the amount of fibres added, is reflected in the recorded acoustic emission (AE) signals. The differences concern the number of signals of individual classes and their distribution over time. The differences exist for both low and high load values, which confirms the possibility of using the acoustic emission method to monitor the condition of the material. It was shown that the numerically determined effective stress levels decreased as the proportion of steel fibres in the concrete increased, while the maximum levels of the first principal stresses increased. During the analyses, a preliminary comparison of the deformation results obtained using the finite element method and the DIC System was also carried out.

This paper presents the outcomes of quality tests conducted on specimens, both smooth and V-notched, subjected to uniaxial tension, which were extracted from a gas transport pipeline. The introduction of the V-notch introduced variations in the stress and strain component fields near the plane of maximum constriction, consequently leading to their failure through different mechanisms. The process included the implementation of quality management practices such as numerical modeling and simulation of the loading of the specimens using ABAQUS. The material model employed in these calculations was defined and verified to ensure quality control. Subsequent to the numerical calculations, maps of the stress and strain component fields were generated, contributing to the quality assessment of the specimens. It was determined that the quality management process for the smooth specimen identifies the initiation of failure primarily due to the normal stress component in the central region of the plane with the largest constriction. In contrast, in the V-notched specimen, quality management efforts revealed that failure initiation occurs due to the tangential stress component, and failure proceeds through the shear mechanism. These results are valuable in developing a quality-driven methodology for monitoring the operational safety of gas network pipelines, primarily based on the analysis of acoustic emission signals.

This article presents the results of tests conducted to identify the failure process and evaluate the deformation of axially compressed concrete specimens modified with polypropylene fibers (PP). The test specimens were previously stored at ambient temperature and subjected to fire temperatures of 300 °C, 450 °C, and 600 °C. Acoustic emission (AE) signals were recorded during loading, along with force and strain measurements. The recorded AE signals were analyzed using the k-means clustering method. The compilation of the test results made it possible to determine the classes of signals characteristic of different stages of the material failure process and to indicate the differences in the failure mechanisms of specimens stored under ambient conditions and subjected to fire temperatures. Digital image correlation (DIC) measurements were conducted during the strength tests. A numerical model of the material (FEM) was also prepared, and a comparison of the obtained results was carried out.

In accordance with applicable international regulations, construction products and elements should have appropriate physical and strength features to meet the required limit states of load-bearing capacity and serviceability in the construction objects designed by them throughout their entire lifetime. The non-destructive methods should be used to assess physical and strength features at various stages of implementation and operation. The complexity of security problems, reliability and durability in the conditions of use of modern building structures therefore requires the development and improvement of specialized research methods. Diagnostics and assessment of building objects requires the use of optimal "in situ" research methods that allow for the assessment of the boundary states of buildings with sufficient accuracy over the entire lifetime. The article presents application the acoustic emission signal (AE) in the diagnosis of technical facilities. The equipment used for signal acquisition is described. An example area of application of the AE method in technology is presented - monitoring of the technical condition of steel structures. Recording and analyzing the AE signal proved to be an effective tool in the diagnosis of this type of construction.

The increase of the interest in polymer composites in technology and in people's everyday lives has been noticed in the recent years. Producing new materials with polymer matrix of particular properties that cannot be achieved by traditional construction materials contributed to high interest in fibre composite materials. However, a wider use of these materials is limited because of the lack of detailed knowledge about their properties and behaviour in various conditions of exposure under load. Mechanical degradation of polymer composites, which is caused by prolonged permanent loads, is connected with the changes of the material structure that are local or that include the whole volume of the element's body. These changes are in the form of various types of discontinuity, including: deboning, matrix and fibers cracks and delamination. The article presents the example of the application of acoustic emission method based on the analysis of the waves through the use of wavelet analysis for the evaluation of the progress of the destructive processes and the level of the degradation of composite tapes that were subject to tensile testing.

This article presents a comprehensive improvement in the experimental analysis of cracking processes in smooth and sharp V-notched samples taken from gas transport pipelines, utilizing the acoustic emission (AE) method. The research aimed to establish a robust correlation between the failure mechanisms of uni-axially tensile samples and the distinct characteristics of AE signals for enhanced quality management in pipeline integrity. The study encompassed materials from two different straight pipe sections, encompassing both long-term used materials and new, unused materials. Through the application of the k-means grouping method to AE signal analysis, we achieved the identification of AE signal parameters characteristic of various stages of the material destruction process. This advancement introduces a significant improvement in monitoring and managing the operational safety of pipeline networks, offering a methodology that leverages advanced acoustic emission signal analysis. The outcomes present significant implications for the pipeline industry by proposing methods to enhance safety systems and more effectively manage the integrity and quality of gas infrastructure.
