Due to the specificity of transport services that are being performed with an unambiguous impact on the environment and society, all activities of transport enterprises oriented towards the achievement of the sustainability goals are more visible than in the case of other enterprises. Consequently, the growing need for sustainability increases not only the costs of individual transport services but also the total costs of a transport enterprise. Indisputably, the costs affect the pricing, which leads to the final market prices. On the one hand, they can increase the prices, but on the other hand, they decrease the enterprise’s competitiveness and its success in the market at the same time. Even though the cost-based pricing is essential, it is not sufficient under these circumstances. Based on the objectives stated above, the primary aim of this paper is to emphasize that the creation of prices in a transport enterprise must consider the global aspects of the enterprise’s performance as a prerequisite for its competitiveness. The results include proposing several variants of corporate performance measurement that are relevant and supported by a literature review of the current knowledge on the topic, an analysis of internal documents from a particular freight-transport enterprise, and structured interviews with the managers. Subsequently, the model proposed can be used by managers of transport enterprises in their decision-making process.

The aim of this article is to identify substantial factors affecting the motivation of universities’ students to be actively engaged in the education process and define recommendations for the increase of this motivation. As a result, the sustainability of education at universities will be supported, contributing to the increase of the value of human capital of students and, subsequently, to the generation of value for the stakeholder groups in those enterprises where the graduates will be employed. The research hypothesis is focused on the presence of differences in students’ motivation in relation to their gender, study program, and the year of study. To effectively achieve this aim, the analysis, comparison, and the synthesis of the theoretical background was performed, using available sources of secondary data found in the pieces of domestic and foreign professional literature. The pieces of knowledge obtained were supplemented and combined with pieces of information acquired from the questionnaire survey conducted, focusing on the motivation of students of informatics and management at a university in the Slovak Republic. As tools of statistical analysis, tests of independence suitable for nominal categorical data were applied. It was revealed that young people are motivated to study at a university, specifically at the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, mainly by the prospect of better chances in the labor market, the possibility of getting a higher salary, and higher qualification. The motivation to study at a university in order to improve the opportunity of getting employed in the labor market was more frequently perceived by women. Despite the fact that the level of teaching is considered to be high by almost 50% of the students regardless of their gender, study program, or the year of study, their motivation also stems from their expectations related to their future jobs. The students of informatics expect to have a team of friendly colleagues, delightful and stimulating working conditions, and the opportunity to do meaningful work. Among the students of management, meaningful work was replaced by the opportunity for self-fulfillment. When focusing on other factors, the differences based on the gender, study program, or the year of study were not statistically significant. Based on these findings, specific measures for the faculty’s management were proposed.

Value management involves thinking which aims at identification and creative solution of problems. This process is organised with the purpose to identify and eliminate unnecessary costs from a project while achieving optimum balance between function and costs. This facilitated creation of a programme and methodology in value management, which improves efficiency and profitability of examined projects. Since value management focuses on an examined project as a whole, decision making process is improved, routine approaches are questioned, realistic budgets for required functions are made, which has a positive effect on project designs while ensuring function. The paper analyzes the value management, it is a special type of management, clearly focused on creating and increasing value for the customer while increasing the value of the company.

The business environment is nowadays characterized by the continuously rising amount of knowledge, technology advances and skills needed for the application of new technologies. This affects many industries, including the field of construction technology and management. The sum of knowledge, skills and abilities that enterprises have at their disposal, embodied in their employees, represent an asset noted as human capital. This asset has its specifics in comparison with other kinds of assets, such as the tangible fixed assets. However, the investment activity is equally necessary for this intangible asset to be maintained and developed. The aim of this article is to analyse the criteria used for investment appraisal within the investment in other kinds of assets, and to assess their applicability for the investment in human capital. The article presents the possible modifications of investment appraisal criteria applicable for investment in human capital within the field of construction technology.

This paper deals with application of quantitative soft computing prediction models into financial area as reliable and accurate prediction models can be very helpful in management decision-making process. The authors suggest a new hybrid neural network which is a combination of the standard RBF neural network, a genetic algorithm, and a moving average. The moving average is supposed to enhance the outputs of the network using the error part of the original neural network. Authors test the suggested model on high-frequency time series data of USD/CAD and examine the ability to forecast exchange rate values for the horizon of one day. To determine the forecasting efficiency, they perform a comparative statistical out-of-sample analysis of the tested model with autoregressive models and the standard neural network. They also incorporate genetic algorithm as an optimizing technique for adapting parameters of ANN which is then compared with standard backpropagation and backpropagation combined with K -means clustering algorithm. Finally, the authors find out that their suggested hybrid neural network is able to produce more accurate forecasts than the standard models and can be helpful in eliminating the risk of making the bad decision in decision-making process.

Evaluation is a complex process, which is attributed a certain value according to certain criteria and standards. The assessment of higher education teaching outcomes is focused on the student's progress in learning, skills and attitudes. The situation before and after undergoing certain training activities is taken into consideration in relation to the objectives (range of student's knowledge in various subjects, profile of graduate study programme). The evaluation of results of higher education teaching in time is carried out in three steps: initial, ongoing and final. In our article, the evaluation represents an effective tool of student's preparation for their future career in their field of study as well as an effective tool of shaping student's personality (it evokes a need for further education in the field, the need for self-realization and knowledge). The aim of the paper is to highlight the complexity of project teaching evaluation and a causal link between the evaluation of higher education teaching outcomes and the quality of higher education. The article focuses on the importance of multicriteria assessment and presents its sample

Measurement of financial performance of enterprises and its evaluation belongs to basic identifiers of the overall success of the enterprises in the market. Knowing the indicators representing financial performance related to the dynamic environment, where the enterprises operate, and also related to the ongoing pressure of their surroundings on improvement is a key element by increasing the competitiveness and strengthening the position in the market. Although the usage of nonfinancial indicators is still more often promoted, financial indicators are able to factually and accurately evaluate condition of an enterprise based on its previous development. The aim of this article is evaluation of financial performance of enterprises operating in IT sector based on the setting of financial indicators, which specify their performance in the best way, while operating results of the enterprises are analyzed using chosen financial indicators. Taking the ability of indicators into account, the performance of given enterprises in IT sector is going to be defined in the best possible way.

The economic result is primary and main financial source for the further development of the enterprise. It is an expression of value of business transformation process. It represents the criterion for deciding on the volume of production, new products, investments, etc. In the interests of stability and the further development of each enterprise we need to pay attention to it not only in terms of level, but also the factors that affect it. On the basis of the above, there was created a process model of decomposition of the economic result. It consists of the knowledge and the analysis of its reference point, defining target value, making variations in order to achieve the target value, the determination of the means to achieve it, establishing the criteria for the selection of variant, selection of the most appropriate variant, implementation of concrete measures, finding the actual condition of the creation of economic result, findings and analyses of the deviations, adoption of measures. The aim of the paper is the generalisation of the results arising from the creation and application of process model of economic result decomposition and drawing conclusions and recommendations. The result is the acquisition of new knowledge making up the essence of the observed value expression of the business transformation process

In this paper, we investigate the volatility dynamics of EUR/GBP currency using statistical as well as the neural network approach which is an alternative way for time series modelling and forecasting in economics. The goal of this paper is to provide an alternative and reasonable way in modelling dynamic economic time series. We suggest an alternative approach for forecasting time series with non-constant volatility – we suggest and implement several neural network prediction models; we also use a large number of statistical models as well as different optimization techniques for artificial neural network. After discussing the basics of statistical volatility modelling and the basis of artificial neural networks we perform the experiment on real financial data. We quantify several ARCH and GARCH models; we also implement various RBF neural network prediction models. The comparative analysis of out-of-sample forecasts evaluated using MSE evaluation measures is performed. Finally, we state that suggested neural network models performed almost as good as the standard statistical models and are therefore reasonable and acceptable in economic modelling.

The function of transportation services is covering of distances and transferring goods, passengers and messages from one place to another. There is a possibility to use a simple and complex cost model or their modification to reflect transportation costs and their impact. The resulting value obtained from the usage of a complex cost model is influenced by a material expensiveness, wage expensiveness through the changes in labour productivity and average wages, demand factor of transportation outputs on tangible investment goods and other expensiveness. The configured cost models in road freight company have better expressing ability, if they are designed in accordance with the structure of a vehicle fleet, e.g. according to vehicle weight category. Based on outcomes analysis of cost models the company management accepts and enforces the measures to increase the effectiveness of transportation process by reason of retention and extension of position on the transport market.
