This study is an exploratory study to explore the best creative learning strategies in graduation project after comparing learning choices between different groups through “collaborative guidance” and “mentor guidance”. The main study methods are multi-factor experimental design, among which, the main variables are gender grouping, and the dependent variables are “mentor guidance” and “collaborative guidance”. The collaborative guidance means that four main orientations of “base investigation”, “design transformation”, “design expression” and “paper writing” in the graduation project process are explained by four graduation project mentors in the way of network lectures in the mid-semester. The participants were fourth-graders in the Department of Environmental Design at a university. In order to understand and clarify whether gender grouping can enhance learning creativity through collaborative guidance in graduation project, the study divided it into experimental group and control group to compare and analyze data. The “experimental group” is composed of the students who completed the graduation project of the whole semester through the collaborative guidance of computer-supported collaborative learning between gender groupings. The “control group” is composed of the students learning under the traditional graduation project teaching style. In addition to identifying whether gender groupings in graduation project can enhance learning creativity through computer-supported collaborative learning “collaborative guidance”, the strategies of teaching method in future graduation project are also discussed in this study.

This study explored the technology learning model of the elderly in a senior learning center under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many senior learning centers were closed during the pandemic, and many of them adopted the mode of online education. However, problems such as decreased motivation and a lack of peer interaction still exist. To solve these problems, this study used the easy-to-implement calligraphy AR approach and E-book approach to conduct a quasi-experiment on the elderly of a calligraphy course offered by a senior learning center. The results show a higher learning motivation among the elderly who use calligraphy AR. The learning effectiveness and technology acceptance of the elderly in the E-book learning group were higher than those in the calligraphy AR group. The elderly mentioned that the E-book learning approach is more user-friendly. In general, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the suspension of classes in senior centers, education through the development of technology has stimulated the growth of education in advanced learning centers. Through this kind of scientific and technological learning method, it will bring a whole new experience to the elderly. It can improve the stress relief methods, mental health, and quality of life of the elderly during the COVID-19 emergency shutdown, and provide a novel calligraphy technique learning experience for the elderly. Therefore, we believe that the calligraphy AR learning approach and the calligraphy E-book learning approach are practical and may promote quality of life and mental health of the elderly during the emergency closures due to COVID-19, providing elderly attendees with a novel calligraphy technology learning experience.

In the field of vocational education, no studies have examined the use of augmented reality (AR) learning technologies in the teaching of cosmetology. However, this study proposed the “Makeup AR” learning approach and conducted a quasi-experiment to examine the interaction effect between said approach and students with active and reflective learning styles. The research participants were 70 students from a vocational senior high school. The experimental group comprised 36 participants who were taught using Makeup AR, and the control group comprised 34 participants who were taught using an e-book. The results revealed that the use of Makeup AR improved students’ learning effectiveness. The proposed approach also effectively enhanced students’ self-efficacy and reduced their cognitive load. The students with a reflective learning style had a higher cognitive load than those with an active learning style when using the e-book learning approach. No difference in learning motivation was noted between the experimental and control groups. Overall, Makeup AR is suitable for makeup design certification courses in vocational senior high schools and can enhance learning effectiveness, improve students’ self-efficacy, and reduce cognitive load. This study suggests that the implementation of AR technology in certification courses can be beneficial to learning outcomes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, campuses are closed, and many schools are forced to transition to online instruction. There are many problems in landscape architecture education during the pandemic such as students’ decreased attention, poor self-regulation, low proactivity, and difficulty in grading. In addition, situational effects are required for landscape architecture education, but online education lacks the necessary case scenarios for courses during the pandemic. In order to solve these problems, the present study adopted a more accessible, and interactive spherical video-based immersive virtual reality (SV-IVR) approach, developed a landscape architecture SV-IVR learning system, and conducted a quasi-experimental study to examine its effectiveness. The results indicated that the experimental group students showed more positive results in their learning achievements, learning attitudes, and self-regulation than the control group. Besides, it was found that students required more time to develop their self-efficacy and that this system would not have an effect on students’ cognitive load.

The Basic Design course can help students understand design principles and visual art elements It is a compulsory basic course for the department of art and design in many universities. In recent years, Augmented Reality (AR) technology has found its way into the field of design education and has become a popular textbook tool in teaching courses. There are not many pieces of research on the application of AR in design courses. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the factors that affect students’ acceptance of AR textbooks in Basic Design course and their continuance intention for AR textbooks. This study first focused on students with experience in using AR textbooks. Open-ended questions were used to collect factors that allow AR textbooks to be used in the design curriculum; then questionnaire surveys and factor analysis were conducted and the research hypotheses are presented. Then, the research hypotheses were verified through reliability and validity as well as structural equation modeling. Three factors and 15 items for students to accept AR textbooks in the Basic Design course were summarized in the research results, including the three factors named “Visual Attraction”, “Knowledge-ability”, and “Situational Experience”. The analysis of differences showed significant differences in gender among these three factors and no significant differences between grades and departments. Also, it was found from the analysis results of the structural equation model that the factors of “Visual Attraction” and “Knowledge-ability” both had a positive effect on the continuance intention, of which “Knowledge-ability” was the most important influencing factor. The results of this study can help the application and development of AR textbooks in the Basic Design course.

In recent years, several researchers have introduced spherical video-based virtual reality (SVVR) into classroom teaching to help students learn different subjects. In SVVR learning, learners are typically presented with great autonomy over their learning process. Therefore, learners should engage in self-regulated strategy (SRS) learning in order to successfully study in SVVR. However, learners often struggle to self-regulate their learning. Therefore, we implemented a SRS intervention in SVVR. In this study, a SVVR environment was developed to situate students in art history contexts; moreover, the SRS was employed to guide students to improve their performance and to make reflections on their own performance. In order to evaluate the proposed approach’s effectiveness, we carried out an experiment in a university art history class. The experiment results reveal more positive effects of the SRS-based SVVR approach compared with the non-SRS-based SVVR approach in terms of the learners’ learning achievements, self-regulation, meta-cognitive awareness, as well as self-efficacy. In addition, this study specified that this approach would not have an effect on students’ cognitive load. As a result, the SRS-based SVVR approach proposed in the current study was effective in art history education.

Products with interactive interfaces can be seen everywhere, and product interface design aesthetics is a topic that has begun to receive wide attention. Consumers’ perceptions of product interfaces come from their own emotions, and emotion plays a significant role in product interface design aesthetics. In other words, it must meet the users’ emotional and aesthetic requirements. Therefore, we need to better understand the aesthetic design criteria and how they stimulate specific emotional responses. This study takes the dial interface of smartwatches as its experimental sample and explores how the interaction effects of the screen shape (square and round) and the symmetry type and the complexity type of the interface design influence the users’ emotional arousal and valence. In addition, it analyzes the effects of the symmetry type, the complexity type, and the screen shape on the users’ arousal and valence. The results show that the attributes of interface design aesthetics (symmetry-asymmetry, complexity-simplicity, and square-round) affect the users’ emotional responses. Moreover, the interface shape is one of the important factors in the emotional response to an interface design. This paper, based on previous research, provides vital theoretical support for the relevant literature on interface design aesthetics and the users’ emotional state. In addition, it may provide a reference for designers and developers who wish to develop and implement emotional user interfaces that are designed to more effectively appeal to their emotions.

With the increasing popularity of social apps, sending emojis has become a very common way of expressing one’s emotions. However, situations often arise when people send the wrong emoji by mistake, or sometimes even an emoji with an opposite meaning, which can cause embarrassment to the sender. Taking WeChat as an example, which is widely used in Chinese communities, this study summarizes 10 types of dialogue situations in which the meaning of an emoji is wrongly sent and 12 types of emotional components that are related to embarrassment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the extent to which the 12 emotional components that are associated with embarrassment actually explain what embarrassment is, as well as the different degrees of embarrassment among the different genders and age groups. The results showed that (1) among the emotional components of embarrassment, shame has the highest explanation degree for embarrassment; (2) males are more likely to be affected by embarrassment than females; and (3) users aged 18–25 and 26–30 years are more likely to be affected by embarrassment than those aged between 31 and 40 when they mistakenly send WeChat emojis. This study provides a reference value for their sustainable psychological impact on social app users.

This dissertation argues, from an embodied perspective, that people’s emotional connection with space is based on their physical structure and their experience of interacting with the environment. Accordingly, the space surrounding the dominant hand and non-dominant hand is associated with different valence appraisals of emotional content (i.e., right hand toward the right space-positive; left hand toward the left space-positive). Rizzolatti regards that the space surrounding us is divided into two parts with the arm length, the space within is called peripersonal space and distant peripersonal space on the contrary. Interestingly, the experiments based on Embodied Cognitive have not been examined with regard to the peripersonal and distant-peripersonal space. Therefore, the study has considered this question and aims to explore the influence of the user’s sagittal interaction in peripersonal space (distal-to-proximal or proximal-to-distal touchscreen’ locations) on affective valence appraisals. A total of 80 right-handed participants took part in the experiment. 40 emotional pictures (20 positive pictures and 20 negative pictures) were evaluated after swiping on a touchscreen, either toward or away from the body. Experimental studies aim to explore the association between affective valence with hand dominance (i.e. dominant hand-positive; non-dominant hand-negative) and sagittal movements (far-to-near interaction-positive/near-to-far interaction-negative). Furthermore, to investigate how sagittal actions of the hands may influence affective experiences, for example, in valence appraisals of affective objects that have been manipulated. The results indicated that when interacting with positive pictures, a valence matching between the hand used for the interactions, the picture’s valence category, and the movement direction reinforced the valence appraisals of the pictures (i.e. positive pictures were more positively evaluated). Conversely, there is no significant difference when interacting with negative pictures, which means Polarity Correspondence Principle does not apply to negative pictures in peripersonal space. In conclusion, the findings of this study further enrich the Embodied Cognitive theory and Polarity Correspondence Principle in Human-Computer Interaction which can be used to improve user emotional experience.

In the face of a wide range of consumer electronic products, how can consumers take into account the sustainable development of the ecological environment during their purchase and consumption? This study established a new product aesthetics classification, divided it into interface aesthetics and product form aesthetics, and proposed a new conceptual model to test the impact of interface aesthetics and product form aesthetics on sustainable perceived value and purchase intention. In this study, smartwatches were used as the subject and a two-stage survey was carried out to collect samples from common consumers of consumer electronic products. Partial least squares (PLS) was employed to test the conceptual model and corresponding hypotheses on data collected from 425 survey samples. The research results suggested that interface aesthetics and product form aesthetics must be mediated by sustainable perceived value so as to have a positive impact on consumers’ purchase intention. Therefore, sustainable perceived value is a mediating variable for adjusting product aesthetics and purchase intention. In addition, sustainable perceived value greatly affects consumers’ green consumer behavior. Increasing the emotional durability established between consumers and products through sustainable perceived value to prolong the life of products reduces resource consumption and wave costs, and promotes sustainable development of ecological resources.

This study investigated the influence of task interdependence and cooperative conflicts on the members of the research and development (R&D) engineering teams of consumer electronics manufacturers in Greater China. Questionnaires and interviews were administered to 283 R&D engineering teams; the results were calculated and analyzed. Subsequently, we categorised the teams according to various kinds of task interdependence before analyzing 32 cases of product development performed by these teams and investigating cooperation and conflict among team members. The results revealed four categories of task interdependence, namely reason and pragmatics, speed and efficiency, trust and mutual assistance, and institutional professionalism. Engineering design teams featuring different categories of task interdependence exhibit differing combinations of team cooperation, team conflict, loyalty, and work values. Few studies have addressed conflict and cooperation among engineering designers within teams; the current study fills this research gap and offers specific recommendations for R&D management practices.
