Incorporating solar energy into a grid necessitates an accurate power production forecast for photovoltaic (PV) facilities. In this research, output PV power was predicted at an hour ahead on yearly basis for three different PV plants based on polycrystalline (p-si), monocrystalline (m-si), and thin-film (a-si) technologies over a four-year period. Wind speed, module temperature, ambiance, and solar irradiation were among the input characteristics taken into account. Each PV plant power output was the output parameter. A deep learning method (RNN-LSTM) was developed and evaluated against existing techniques to forecast the PV output power of the selected PV plant. The proposed technique was compared with regression (GPR, GPR (PCA)), hybrid ANFIS (grid partitioning, subtractive clustering and FCM) and machine learning (ANN, SVR, SVR (PCA)) methods. Furthermore, different LSTM structures were also investigated, with recurrent neural networks (RNN) based on 2019 data to determine the best structure. The following parameters of prediction accuracy measure were considered: RMSE, MSE, MAE, correlation (r) and determination (R2) coefficients. In comparison to all other approaches, RNN-LSTM had higher prediction accuracy on the basis of minimum (RMSE and MSE) and maximum (r and R2). The p-si, m-si and a-si PV plants showed the lowest RMSE values of 26.85 W/m2, 19.78 W/m2 and 39.2 W/m2 respectively. Moreover, the proposed method was found to be robust and flexible in forecasting the output power of the three considered different photovoltaic plants.

The adoption of automated crop harvesting system based on machine vision may improve productivity and optimize the operational cost. The scope of this study is to obtain visual information at the plantation which is crucial in developing an intelligent automated crop harvesting system. This paper aims to develop an automatic detection system with high accuracy performance, low computational cost and lightweight model. Considering the advantages of YOLOv3 tiny, an optimized YOLOv3 tiny network namely YOLO‐P is proposed to detect and localize three objects at palm oil plantation which include fresh fruit bunch, grabber and palm tree under various environment conditions. The proposed YOLO‐P model incorporated lightweight backbone based on densely connected neural network, multi‐scale detection architecture and optimized anchor box size. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed YOLO‐P model achieved good mean average precision and F1 score of 98.68% and 0.97 respectively. Besides, the proposed model performed faster training process and generated lightweight model of 76 MB. The proposed model was also tested to identify fresh fruit bunch of various maturities with accuracy of 98.91%. The comprehensive experimental results show that the proposed YOLO‐P model can effectively perform robust and accurate detection at the palm oil plantation.

Since the deregulation of the power markets, accurate short term Electricity Price Forecasting (EPF) has become crucial in maximizing economic benefits and mitigating power market risks. Due to the challenging characteristics of electricity price, which comprise high volatility, rapid spike, and seasonality, developing robust machine learning prediction tools becomes cumbersome. This work proposes a new hybrid machine learning method for a day-ahead EPF, which involves linear regression Automatic Relevance Determination (ARD) and ensemble bagging Extra Tree Regression (ETR) models. Considering that each model of EPF has its own strengths and weaknesses, combining several models gives more accurate predictions and overcomes the limitations of an individual model. Therefore, the linear ARD model is applied because it can efficiently deal with trend and seasonality variations; on the other hand, the ensemble ETR model is employed to learn from interactions, and thus combining ARD with ETR produces robust forecasting outcomes. The effectiveness of the proposed method was validated using a data set from the Nord Pool electricity market. The proposed model is compared with other models to demonstrate its superiority using performance matrices, such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Experiment results show that the proposed method achieves lower forecasting errors than other individual and hybrid models. Additionally, a comparative study has been performed against previous works, where forecasting measurement of the proposed method outperforms previous works’ accuracy in forecasting electricity price.

Due to urbanization, solid waste pollution is an increasing concern for rivers, possibly threatening human health, ecological integrity, and ecosystem services. Riverine management in urban landscapes requires best management practices since the river is a vital component in urban ecological civilization, and it is very imperative to synchronize the connection between urban development and river protection. Thus, the implementation of proper and innovative measures is vital to control garbage pollution in the rivers. A robot that cleans the waste autonomously can be a good solution to manage river pollution efficiently. Identifying and obtaining precise positions of garbage are the most crucial parts of the visual system for a cleaning robot. Computer vision has paved a way for computers to understand and interpret the surrounding objects. The development of an accurate computer vision system is a vital step toward a robotic platform since this is the front-end observation system before consequent manipulation and grasping systems. The scope of this work is to acquire visual information about floating garbage on the river, which is vital in building a robotic platform for river cleaning robots. In this paper, an automated detection system based on the improved You Only Look Once (YOLO) model is developed to detect floating garbage under various conditions, such as fluctuating illumination, complex background, and occlusion. The proposed object detection model has been shown to promote rapid convergence which improves the training time duration. In addition, the proposed object detection model has been shown to improve detection accuracy by strengthening the non-linear feature extraction process. The results showed that the proposed model achieved a mean average precision (mAP) value of 89%. Hence, the proposed model is considered feasible for identifying five classes of garbage, such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, plastic bags, styrofoam, and plastic containers.

The global shift toward renewable energy, particularly wind power, underscores the critical need for advanced fault diagnosis systems to optimize wind turbine reliability and efficiency. While traditional diagnostic methods remain foundational, their limitations in addressing the nonlinear dynamics and operational complexity of modern turbines have accelerated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven approaches. This review systematically examines advancements in AI-based fault diagnosis techniques, including machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), from 2019 to 2024, analyzing their evolution, efficacy, and practical challenges. Drawing on a curated selection of 55 studies (identified via structured searches across IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science), the paper prioritizes research employing data-driven or model-based methodologies with explicit experimental validation and clearly documented data sources. The excluded works lacked English accessibility, validation, or data transparency. Focusing on high-impact faults in gearboxes, blades, and generators, these components are responsible for over 70% of turbine failures, the review maps prevalent ML and DL algorithms, such as CNNs, LSTMs, and SVMs, to specific fault types, revealing hybrid AI models and real-world data integration as key drivers of diagnostic accuracy. Critical gaps are identified, including overreliance on simulated datasets and inconsistent signal preprocessing, which hinder real-world applicability. This study concludes with actionable recommendations for future research, advocating adaptive noise-filtering techniques, scalable hybrid architectures, and standardized benchmarking using operational turbine data. By bridging theoretical AI advancements with practical deployment challenges, this work aims to inform next-generation fault diagnosis systems, enhancing turbine longevity and supporting global renewable energy goals.
