Physical education (PE) classes promote extracurricular physical activity (PA). Therefore, having fun in this context is important for developing active lifestyles. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships between motor self-efficacy and physical self-concept with enjoyment/satisfaction and boredom in school PE lessons. A total of 195 adolescents aged 14 to 15 years (M = 14.65; SD = 0.48) from the city of Malaga participated. The Motor Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES), the Children Physical Self Questionnaire (C-PSQ) and the Sport Satisfaction Instrument (SSI) were used to evaluate the variables under study. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were performed, finding positive and statistically significant associations between motor self-efficacy and physical self-concept with enjoyment/satisfaction in PE, as well as negative relationships with boredom. Specifically, motor self-efficacy and perceived physical competence were predictors of satisfaction or boredom in PE. The results suggest that some physical and motor self-perceptions at these ages could contribute to developing attitudes towards physical practice in this type of educational context, in addition to the importance that their extrapolation to other contexts of PA outside school hours could have.

Data mining is a technique that aims to explain large data sets through patterns of behavior, associations, changes, or significant structures in the data. The main goal of this study was to analyze information about beliefs and attitudes towards hypnosis, evaluated by the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis, Client version (VSABTH-C) in two temporal moments with a total of 444 participants; developing decision trees in order to discover any sociodemographic factors influencing these variables. The results indicate some influence of gender, education level, and profession on the scores in the scale factors, thus women tended to get higher scores on factors such as Control and Fear; people with a higher educational level tended to get higher scores on factors that denote more positive attitudes and beliefs towards hypnosis; in addition, the psychologist participants showed more positive attitudes and beliefs regarding hypnosis. Considering these results, it would be interesting to carry out similar studies, increasing the size of the sample and also adding some new variables, in order to deepen this relationship and implement changes that would lead people to have more positive attitudes and beliefs regarding hypnosis.

The main goal of this research is to study the relationships between physical activity, mood states and self-rated health in the Spanish lockdown (March 2020–April 2020) due to the state of alarm caused by COVID-19. The participants were 328 people aged between 19 and 59 years (M = 37.06; SD = 10.82). Females comprised 63.70% of the participants, and 36.30% were male. An associative, comparative and predictive design was used in this research. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the Profile of Mood State (POMS), the state anxiety scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Questionnaire (STAI) and the General Health Questionnaire GHQ−12 were applied in order to measure the study variables. Both correlation and linear regression analyses were performed, showing that physical activity is positively related to health perception and mood. Similarly, data have shown that moderate physical practice predicts better health perceptions and positive mood states than vigorous physical activity. Specifically, moderate physical activity is the only variable that predicts the anxiety state (R = 0.22; R 2 adjusted = 0.05; F = 15.51; p < 0.001). In addition, it has been detected that mood is related to the perception of the state of health. Outcomes suggest that practicing moderate physical activity during these types of situations could amortize its negative effects on psychological health and benefit a more positive mental state. Future studies should consider the employment status of the sample to detect possible differences based on this variable.

Increasing knowledge about what actions are most effective in sport is essential to improve performance in the game. This study aims to analyse the offensive finalization in soccer during the World Cup '18. Specifically, the finalist teams of the tournament were analysed. It will take into account the regular patterns of play and tactics that occur in the finalization actions of the finalist teams in the tournament. Observational methodology and polar-coordinate analysis have been used for dramatic data reduction and behavioural vectorization. An ad hoc observation tool has been designed and validated in the form of field formats and category systems, comprehensive and mutually exclusive (E/ME), with 8 criteria and 59 categories. The polar coordinate analysis used is the "genuine" technique with significant relationships (p < 0.05) and with modulus of the vector ≥ 1.96. The zone of finalization in the opposite area was used as focal behavior. The results shown in both teams’ that the finalization is excited when the score is favorable, it occurs through the midfielders and without the use of the long ball. The comparative analysis of both teams shows very different behavioural relationships that will be discussed.

Attention is one skill related to processes such as memory or learning, so, its evaluation is very interesting in areas such as clinical, educational or sports. The aim of this paper is to analyze the reliability and generalizability of one online computerized tool, named MenPas Mondrian Color, that has been developed for the visual attention span assessing and training. In addition, it has been intended to determine any existing relationships among the different parameters of the tasks performed in order to check the coherence of the results obtained in the executions. In 11,540 analyzed executions of 1064 users from different American, African and European countries, 6543 of them were performed by women (56.70%) and 4997 by men (43.30%). The age distribution showed that all of the participants were aged 18–55 years, with an average of 25.50 ± 8.91 years. The analyzed tool is called MenPas Mondrian Color which is included in the MENPAS 1.0 platform. Reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha), variance components and generalizability analyses were carried out in order to analyze the quality of the data gathered by this tool. The obtained results indicated optimal scores in the analyses performed, suggesting that the data gathered are reliable, precise and statistically generalizable to a larger population. Likewise, correlation analyses indicated that the difficulty of the task is related to the effectiveness in its executions, indicating that this is a highly sensitive tool.

The purpose of the current study is to analyze the relationships between physical fitness, selective attention, and academic performance in pre-teens. The sample here consists of 135 participants between the ages of 10 and 12 (M = 11.05; SD = 0.61), with 39.26% female (n = 53) and 60.74% male (n = 82) participants. Horizontal and vertical jump distances, speed, and cardio-respiratory fitness were evaluated to assess physical fitness. The d2 Test of Attention was used to evaluate selective attention. In addition, data were obtained regarding participant academic performance by analyzing the academic performance. The results show significant relationships between the measures analyzed, highlighting positive associations between physical fitness, cognitive functioning, and academic performance. Thus, participants who were fitter scored better on tests of attention (Z133 = −4.07; p < 0.00007, Cohen’s d = 0.75, 95% CI (0.39, 1.11)) and concentration (t133 = −3.84; p < 0.0007, Cohen’s d = 0.69, 95% CI (0.33, 1.05)), as well as having higher academic performance (Z133 = −2.84; p < 0.0035, Cohen’s d = 0.39, 95% CI (0.04, 0.75)). Cardiorespiratory fitness was the measure of physical fitness that best explained these relationships. The results suggest that maintaining and improving the physical fitness of children and adolescents may help their brain function develop better.

The study was aimed at: (1) Analysing the psychometric features of the QGolf scale, (2) examining the relation between the user’s perceived quality, the club service dimensions, and the golf club performance and, (3) exploring whether a better performance could vary depending on the player’s profile and/or the type of golf course. To do so, 968 users from 13 clubs in north-western Spain golf courses were interviewed. Psychometric and theoretical findings are introduced regarding their further use in field marketing. The causal analysis of covariance structure leads us to state that the human and organisational dimension of the service is key to assess perceived quality. When comparing models, the explanatory power of the Handicap ≥ 20 model was higher than the one concerning Handicap < 20. Thus, the strategy to increase user satisfaction should be quite different depending on whether users are beginners or advanced golf players. Therefore, managers should consider the users’ profiles diversity, their specific needs, and the variety of target-groups involved, on account of the golf course’s interests. This seems the best pathway to achieve sustainability and survival in the area.

The clear decline in the practice of physical activity (PA) in contemporary society has well-documented problematic consequences in public health. It has led to a clear investment of research efforts in the attempt to identify the psychological constructs associated with health behaviors such as PA, in particular, the motivation that leads people to adopt these behaviors. In this context, the objective of the present study is to present a suggestion of a Portuguese version of the Physical Activity and Leisure Motivation Scale (PALMS), denominated PALMS-p. This instrument evaluates the reasons for the practice of PA. The psychometric qualities of the instrument were evaluated in a sample of 234 participants (86 males, 148 females) who practiced different PA in a recreational context. Confirmatory factorial analysis confirmed the factorial robustness of the PALMS-p (χ2/df = 2.010 comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.950, goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.855, Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.939 root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.021, P(RMSEA ≤ 0.05) < 0.001), and the results show that this version presents good internal consistency. The present study corroborates the fidelity and validity of PALMS-p as a motivation measure for the practice of PA in the Portuguese population.

Proper quality management of sports services requires knowledge of the needs, perceptions, expectations, and emotions of users. Facial expressions provide relevant information about the immediate perception of stimuli. The objective of this study was therefore to analyze how a group of child users of sports services expressed their satisfaction with the programs in which they participated through facial expressions during an in-depth interview tailored to their age. Nineteen child users of a sports organization (aged from 5 to 12 years) were interviewed, involving both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The analysis of facial expressions was performed using Face Reader v.6.1.10, which automatically analyzes eight categories of facial expressions (six basic emotions, one neutral, and one unidentified). The data collection and transformation procedures fully satisfied the requirement for flexibility and provide new perspectives for incorporating data into the study of biopsychosocial factors in everyday contexts using a Mixed-Methods approach. In addition, the generalizability analysis itself, carried out to determine the levels of reliability, generalizability and precision of the sample (with relative and absolute G indexes of between 0.86 and 0.93 for the three analyses performed), was also a Mixed-Methods procedure.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationships between a controlling interpersonal style, psychological need thwarting and burnout in adolescent soccer players and to test a structural equation model to analyze whether (a) a controlling interpersonal style is a predictor of psychological need thwarting and whether (b) psychological need thwarting is a predictor of burnout. A total of 103 male soccer players between the ages of 12 and 17 participated in the research (M = 14.91; SD = 5.56). The Controlling Coach Behaviors Scale, the Psychological Need Thwarting Scale, and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire were used to evaluate the variables under study. The analyses revealed significant relationships between a controlling interpersonal style, psychological need thwarting and burnout. Furthermore, the proposed structural equations model, using the partial least squares (PLS) method, showed that a controlling style is a positive predictor of basic psychological need thwarting and that the latter is a predictor of burnout, as well as revealing an indirect relationship between a controlling style and burnout. This indirect effect of the controlling style variable on burnout can be enhanced (or attenuated) by the basic psychological need thwarting variable, which acts as a modulator.

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships between cognitive functioning, physical fitness, and game performance in a sample of adolescent soccer players. Eighty-five boys from a soccer team in Rincon de la Victoria (Malaga, Spain), aged between 12 and 16 years, participated in the study. The D2 and Global-Local Attention (GLA) tests were used to evaluate selective and divided attention, respectively, and the Coding and Symbol Search tests of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) were used for processing speed. To analyze physical fitness, the standing long jump test, speed test, and Course-Navette test of the Alpha-Fitness battery were used. Finally, the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI) was used to analyze sports performance in three vs. three small-sided games. The analyses showed that cognitive functioning was related to game performance. The results obtained suggest the importance of cognitive functions for performance in this sport.

This study analyzes, for the first time, the psychometric properties of the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs towards Hypnosis, Therapist Version (VSABTH-T) in its online version. Previous studies have analyzed the properties of this scale in its traditional version, but in none of the cases the invariance of the model has been studied. For this reason, and because of the advantages offered by online administration, it is important to analyze the psychometric properties of this version, with the aim of being able to use it in future studies, as well as to make comparisons over time. There were 154 participants, collecting the data in two temporal moments. After analyzing the factor structures proposed in the previous literature (eight factors and 37 items) no satisfactory results were reached for the online sample. An alternative model was formulated (eliminating eight items because they were considered crossloadings), with eight factors and 29 items, which presented satisfactory adjustment rates to the different groups (CFI = .92, TLI = .90–91, RMSEA = .06–07, SRMR = .07; χ2 = 562.60 for time 1 (χ2/df = 1.61) and χ2 = 600.93 for time 2 (χ2/df = 1.72), df = 349 for all samples, Bollen-Stine Bootstrap p = .02–07). The results indicated appropriate values of convergent, discriminant and composite reliability for most dimensions, and the temporal invariance of the factor structure was confirmed, an aspect that should be highlighted in the light of previous investigations. Taking the above into consideration, the option of optimizing the eliminated items could be considered, in order not to lose information regarding the content of the scale.

Athletic talent and creativity are important for winning bouts in combat sports. The aim of the current study is to analyze technical–tactical actions performed by athletes of the 2016 Summer Olympics according to the outcome (winners and losers) of a given bout. A total of 2374 actions were analyzed. In this mixed-methods study, we used a nomothetic follow-up and multidimensional design. The results showed that winners scored one point through direct attacks to the chest. After scoring, athletes kicked with the back leg. In addition, they performed direct attacks prior to score one point, while cuts occurred after scoring. Three points were scored by spinning techniques and actions to the head, after which they kicked with the front leg. Cuts occurred prior to scoring three points, while direct attacks occurred after scoring. The creativity to score points emerged as a necessary characteristic of taekwondo athletes to win a bout. These results showed technical–tactical implications derived from the last modifications of the regulations of this sport, as well as the necessary adaptation of the athletes’ trainings in preparation for the next Olympic Games. It is suggested that coaches and psychologists train athletes in better decision-making and creative strategic planning in accordance with the successful patterns extracted in this study.

The objective of this research was to analyze the convergent validity of a computerized program called Rejilla v.1, which was built with the aim of evaluating selective attention and to be used in contexts such as sport. A total of 99 participants collaborated on the study, aged between 19 and 36 years old (M ± SD = 25.15 ± 3.56). To assess convergent validity, correlation analyses were performed with other instruments that have traditionally been used to evaluate selective attention, such as the D2 Attention Test and the Toulouse-Pieron Test. The results found revealed moderate and low correlations between the instruments, suggesting relationships between them, although they should be taken with caution. The main measures of the D2 Test and the Toulouse-Pieron Test showed moderate levels with the hits of Rejilla v.1, but the secondary measures showed low associations. It is suggested that other cognitive functions, in addition to selective attention, could participate in the performance of Rejilla v.1 exercises, which is discussed at work. Organizations are implementing actions to improve the health and quality of life of employees, this fact affects the companies and their employees, the latter being characterized by having five strengths such as engagement, resilience, Self-efficacy, optimism and hope. The questionnaire of the healthy employee measures eight dimensions, so the objective of the work is to validate the instrument by reducing the construct of the healthy employee from eight dimensions to five dimensions and to verify its reliability as a means of evaluating the healthy employee. 287 employees (ages 20-59 years) participated in this study. The adjustment of the five and eight-dimensional models was analyzed by means of a Confirmatory Factorial Analysis (CFA), using the method of estimation of Maximum Robust Likelihood. The incremental indices (CFI and NNFI) and the absolute SRMR showed a good fit in both models, being higher than, 90 and lower than, respectively. Regarding the comparison of models, a significant increase was observed in the Satorra-Bentler Chi Square contrast statistic in the five model compared to the eight dimension model, although the reduction of the CFI in the five-dimensional model did not exceed the criterion of, 01, which allowed to consider both models as similar in terms of adjustment. Both models showed satisfactory results in terms of adjustment, this fact confirms the use of the healthy employee questionnaire from eight dimensions to five dimensions.

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in a group of adolescents. 167 teenagers between 14 and 15 years old (M = 14.53; SD = 0.50) from the city of Malaga (Spain) participated in the study. This research used a comparative and predictive type of design. The Tanita® Body Composition Monitor BC-601, some Eurofit battery tests, the D2 Attention Test, the WISC-IV Scale Symbols and Keys tests, the Form 5 Self-Concept Questionnaire (AF5), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were used to evaluate the study variables. The results found in this research pointed to a positive relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in the adolescents analyzed. For example, adolescents who practiced more physical exercise had better scores on variables such as selective attention (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.10), processing speed (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.09) or general self-efficacy (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.15). In addition, cardiorespiratory fitness was the best predictor of test scores to assess cognitive ability and psychosocial variables. These findings suggest the need to promote physical exercise among young people because of its implications for various facets of their health and development

The main goal of this study was to analyze the relationships among physical fitness, selective attention and concentration in a group of 210 teenagers (43.81% male, 56.19% female) from the city of Málaga (Spain), aged between 11 and 15 years old (M = 13.27, SD = 1.80) that participated in the study. D2 attention test was used in order to analyze selective attention and concentration. Physical fitness was evaluated using the horizontal jump test, the Course Navette test and the 5 × 10 meters speed test. The analysis taken indicated a significant relationship among the physical fitness level, the attention and the concentration, as in the general sample as looking at gender. Linear regression tests performed showed that oxygen consumption is the best predictor of attentional parameters. Cluster analysis shows two groups characterized by a greater or lower physical fitness level. So, the highest physical fitness level group scores better in the attention (e.g., boys: p < 0.001, d’ Cohen = 1.01, 95% CI [0.57, 1.44]; girls: p < 0.01, d’ Cohen = 0.61, 95% CI [0.24, 0.98]) and the concentration tests (e.g., boys: p < 0.001, d’ Cohen = 0.89, 95% CI [0.46, 1.32]; girls: p < 0.01, d’ Cohen = 0.58, 95% CI [0.21, 0.95]). Results indicate that physical fitness analysis can be used as a tool for observing differences in the attention and concentration level of the analyzed adolescents, suggesting that a physical performance improvement could be an adequate procedure to develop some cognitive functions during adolescence.

The first objective of this research was to analyze the relationships between the sports psychological profile, competitive anxiety, mood and self-efficacy in beach handball players. The second objective was to determine the predictive capacity of the psychological profile on competitive anxiety, moods and self-efficacy, which was assessed by linear regression analysis. One hundred and eighty-one beach handball players participated in this research (age: M = 25.68; SD = 5.95), of which 52.49% were male (n = 95) and 47.51% were female (n = 86). The Psychological Sports Execution Inventory (SPPI), the Competition Anxiety State Inventory 2 (CSAI-2), the Mood Profile (POMS) questionnaire and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used to obtain the data. Correlation and linear regression analyses reveal statistically significant associations between the constructs studied, both for the total sample and by gender. Specifically, they highlight the relationships between the different measures of the sports psychological profile with self-confidence (p < 0.001), as well as those established between negative coping control with competitive anxiety (p < 0.001), moods (p < 0.05) and general self-efficacy (p < 0.001).

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship of different offensive tactical performances with the behaviours shown in the two main defensive systems in handball. For this, an analysis of polar coordinates was carried out using as focal behaviors those wich identify the main defensive systems and the offensive actions with or without transformations. There were 538 situations corresponding to 5 matches of the first Spanish national men's division with the Hoisan software by making use of an ad hoc tool. The observational design used was nomothetic, punctual and monitoring, the observation unit being the defense situation of the monitored team. The results of the Data Quality and Generalizability analysis show convincing rates for the models used. The results of the Polar Coordinates analysis show the greater oppositional capacity of the 5: 1 defensive system to attack. It also highlights that the attacking transformation from 3:3 to 2:4 is used more in the face of open defenses and it elicits an increase in the appearances of disciplinary sanctions. The observational tool designed and the use of the polar coordinate technique for the estimation of tactical relationships allows to define intervention procedures that optimize the resources of training and competition in handball.
