The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) cannot achieve accurate positioning and navigation in the indoor environment. Therefore, efficient indoor positioning technology has become a very active research topic. Bluetooth beacon positioning is one of the most widely used technologies. Because of the time-varying characteristics of the Bluetooth received signal strength indication (RSSI), traditional positioning algorithms have large ranging errors because they use fixed path loss models. In this paper, we propose an RSSI real-time correction method based on Bluetooth gateway which is used to detect the RSSI fluctuations of surrounding Bluetooth nodes and upload them to the cloud server. The terminal to be located collects the RSSIs of surrounding Bluetooth nodes, and then adjusts them by the RSSI fluctuation information stored on the server in real-time. The adjusted RSSIs can be used for calculation and achieve smaller positioning error. Moreover, it is difficult to accurately fit the RSSI distance model with the logarithmic distance loss model due to the complex electromagnetic environment in the room. Therefore, the back propagation neural network optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO-BPNN) is used to train the RSSI distance model to reduce the positioning error. The experiment shows that the proposed method has better positioning accuracy than the traditional method.

With the rapid growth in healthcare demand, an emergent, novel technology called wireless body area networks (WBANs) have become promising and have been widely used in the field of human health monitoring. A WBAN can collect human physical parameters through the medical sensors in or around the patient’s body to realize real-time continuous remote monitoring. Compared to other wireless transmission technologies, a WBAN has more stringent technical requirements and challenges in terms of power efficiency, security and privacy, quality of service and other specifications. In this paper, we review the recent WBAN medical applications, existing requirements and challenges and their solutions. We conducted a comprehensive investigation of WBANs, from the sensor technology for the collection to the wireless transmission technology for the transmission process, such as frequency bands, channel models, medium access control (MAC) and networking protocols. Then we reviewed its unique safety and energy consumption issues. In particular, an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC)-based WBAN scheme is presented to improve its security and privacy and achieve ultra-low energy consumption.

In recent years, the increase of satellites and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) has multiplied the amount of remote sensing data available to people, but only a small part of the remote sensing data has been properly used; problems such as land planning, disaster management and resource monitoring still need to be solved. Buildings in remote sensing images have obvious positioning characteristics; thus, the detection of buildings can not only help the mapping and automatic updating of geographic information systems but also have guiding significance for the detection of other types of ground objects in remote sensing images. Aiming at the deficiency of traditional building remote sensing detection, an improved Faster R-CNN (region-based Convolutional Neural Network) algorithm was proposed in this paper, which adopts DRNet (Dense Residual Network) and RoI (Region of Interest) Align to utilize texture information and to solve the region mismatch problems. The experimental results showed that this method could reach 82.1% mAP (mean average precision) for the detection of landmark buildings, and the prediction box of building coordinates was relatively accurate, which improves the building detection results. Moreover, the recognition of buildings in a complex environment was also excellent.

Multi-dimensional force sensors have substantially improved the surgical quality of surgical robots. The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on the design and application of multi-dimensional force sensors in various surgical robots. The multi-dimensional force sensor can monitor the interaction force between the surgical instrument and the soft tissue, enabling doctors to obtain force feedback information in real time during surgery. This can help them improve the accuracy and safety of surgery. The review identifies the importance of sensors classification and performance parameters in surgery for multi-dimensional force measurement. This review focuses on the integrated design of force sensors and multi-dimensional force decoupling algorithms. In addition, a fiber bragg grating multi-dimensional force sensor for puncture surgery was designed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. This review paper provides a comprehensive classification and analysis of multi-dimensional force sensors for surgical robots, which will help researchers to understand the integrated design solutions for different surgical instruments and multi-dimensional force sensors.

The application of deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) in the field of medical image processing has attracted extensive attention and demonstrated remarkable progress. An increasing number of deep learning methods have been devoted to classifying ChestX-ray (CXR) images, and most of the existing deep learning methods are based on classic pretrained models, trained by global ChestX-ray images. In this paper, we are interested in diagnosing ChestX-ray images using our proposed Fusion High-Resolution Network (FHRNet). The FHRNet concatenates the global average pooling layers of the global and local feature extractors—it consists of three branch convolutional neural networks and is fine-tuned for thorax disease classification. Compared with the results of other available methods, our experimental results showed that the proposed model yields a better disease classification performance for the ChestX-ray 14 dataset, according to the receiver operating characteristic curve and area-under-the-curve score. An ablation study further confirmed the effectiveness of the global and local branch networks in improving the classification accuracy of thorax diseases.

Computed Tomography (CT) imaging is one of the most widely-used and cost-effective technology for organ screening and diseases diagnosis. Because of existence of metallic implants in some patients, the CT images acquired from these patients are often corrupted by undesirable metal artifacts, which causes severe problem of metal artifact. Although there have been proposed many methods to reduce metal artifact, reduction is still challenging and inadequate, and results are suffering from symptom variance, second artifact and poor subjective evaluation. To address these problems, we propose a novel metal artifact reduction method based on generative adversarial networks to simultaneously reduce metal artifacts and enhance texture structure of corrected CT images. Specifically, we firstly incorporate interactive information (text) and imaging CT (image) into a comprehensive feature to yield multi-modal feature-fusion representation, which overcomes the representative ability limitation of single-modal data. The incorporation of interaction information constrains the feature generation to ensure symptom consistency between corrected and target CT. Then, we design an edge-enhance sub-network to avoid second artifact and suppress noise. Besides, we invite three professional physicians to evaluate corrected CT image subjectively. In this paper, We achieved average increment of 11.3% PSNR and 12.1% SSIM on DeepLesion dataset. The subjective evaluations by physicians show that ours outperforms over 6.3%, 7.1%, 5.50% and 6.9% in term of sharpness, resolution, invariance and acceptability, respectively. Our proposed method can achieve high-quality metal artifact reduction results.
