Mutual coupling (MC) between elements in an antenna array could significantly affect antenna performance, but this effect has rarely been reported for circularly polarized (CP) antennas. Therefore, this paper investigates a wideband CP multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna operating between 1.8 and 2.6 GHz. A line patch was introduced between closely placed radiating elements (0.3λ) to produce a high isolation between elements in the proposed antenna. The designed MIMO antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth, a wide axial ratio (AR) bandwidth, a very low MC (S21 <; -25 dB), a low envelop correlation coefficient (ECC <; 0.01), a high diversity gain (DG ~ 10 dB), and a realized gain of above 2 dB over the entire frequencies. The prototype of the proposed antenna geometry was fabricated and measured. A good agreement between the simulated and measured results was observed.

Due to the vast rise of users, the variety of application requirements, and the enormous necessity for ubiquitous connectivity anytime and anywhere, integration of new technologies and ideas are required. Therefore, Device to Device (D2D) communication technology has been regarded as a critical concern for Beyond Fifth Generation (B5G) networks. In the D2D technology, devices in close proximity may connect without using a Base Station (BS). Consequently, improving the capacity and performance of traditional networks. The major objectives are to accomplish a high geared data rate, increase the network coverage with low latency, and improve Energy Efficiency (EE) and Spectrum Efficiency (SE). However, the coexistence of D2D technology in the traditional network can pose many issues and challenges, such as power control, interference, spectrum access, security, and mode selection. Consequently, a comprehensive survey that includes an investigation of the current issues in D2D technology is required. In this survey, we present a new categorization of the most important aspects of resource management in B5G D2D communication, such as power allocation, spectrum allocation, interference management, and mode selection. Furthermore, we discuss the limitations and open issues of the current techniques and propose a model approach and future directions for D2D communication in B5G wireless networks. Our survey aims to assist researchers in exploring and improving D2D communication within the framework of forthcoming wireless networks.

With the exponential increase in smart device usage across various domains, flexible and conformal antenna technologies have emerged as transformative solutions, enabling wireless systems in numerous smart applications. However, selecting a suitable flexible and conformal substrate remains challenging because of the intricate characteristics and performance considerations of each material. Additionally, most applications of these substrates are confined to specific areas, such as body-worn devices, biomedical uses, and health services. In contrast, the use of ultra-high frequency (UHF, 0.3–3 GHz) antennas is largely concentrated in radio frequency identification (RFID) and telecommunications, with limited exploration in other areas. Recently, UHF antennas have gained attention for unconventional applications, including high-voltage (HV) defect detection, particularly partial discharge (PD) diagnosis. However, practical challenges arise due to the rigidity of commercial substrate materials. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on flexible and conformal UHF antennas’ applicability for PD diagnostics, a field that remains underexplored. We systematically assess the electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of various flexible and conformal substrates relevant to UHF antenna development. In this investigation, we thoroughly analyse five substrate materials, namely polyimide (PI), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), Rogers laminates, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and several types of UHF antennas including planar monopole, spiral antenna, Hilbert antenna, biconical antenna, and so on. The synthesis of this research delivers a complete roadmap, addressing existing limitations and proposing future directions for PD diagnosis by conformal and flexible antennas.

Conserving water resources from scarcity and pollution is the basis of water resource management and water quality monitoring programs. However, due to industrialization and population growth in Malaysia, which have resulted in poor water quality in many areas, this program needs to be improved. A smart water quality monitoring system based on the internet of things (IoT) paradigm was designed to analyze water conditions in real time and enable effective water management. Long-range (LoRa) application of the low-power, wide-area networking concept has become a phenomenon in IoT smart monitoring applications. This study proposes the implementation of a LoRa network in a water quality monitoring system-based IoT approach. The LoRa nodes were embedded with measuring sensors pH, turbidity, temperature, total dissolved solids, and dissolved oxygen, in the designated water stations. They operate at a transmission power of 14 dB and a bandwidth of 125 kHz. The network properties were tested with two different antenna gains of 2.1 dBi and 3 dBi, with three different spread factors of 7, 9, and 12. The water stations were located on the Sungai Pantai and Sungai Anak Air Batu rivers on the Universiti Malaya campus, Malaysia. Following a dashboard display and K-means analysis of the water quality data received by the LoRa gateway, it was determined that both rivers are Class II B rivers. The results from the evaluation of LoRa performance on the received strength signal indicator, signal noise ratio, loss packet, and path loss at best were −83 dBm, 7 dB, <0%, and 64.41 dB, respectively, with a minimum received sensitivity of −129.1 dBm. LoRa has demonstrated its efficiency in an urban environment for smart river monitoring purposes.

The sixth-generation (6G) wireless cellular network integrates several wireless bands and modes with the objectives of improving quality of service (QoS) and increasing network connectivity. The 6G environment includes asymmetrical heterogeneous networks (HetNets) with the intention of making effective use of the available frequencies. However, selecting a suitable gNB and a communication channel that works for users in the network is an enormous challenge in 6G HetNets. This paper investigates a joint user association (UA) and channel allocation (CA) problem in two-tier HetNets by considering the downlink scenario to improve QoS. Our study presents an innovative scheme for user association and channel allocation, wherein the user can be connected to either the macro base station (MBS) or a possible small base station (SBS) in a direct or relay-assisted link. Furthermore, the proposed scheme identifies the optimal channel to be allocated to each user so that the overall network QoS can be maximized. A symmetric matching game-based user association is proposed to find the optimal association for users. Moreover, a modified auction game is applied to allocate the optimal channel by considering the quota of each gNB. Regarding connection probability, throughput, energy efficiency (EE), and spectrum efficiency (SE), the simulation results show that the proposed approach performs well over the state-of-the-art techniques.

Device-to-device (D2D) communication has shown great potential as a technology for beyond-fifth-generation (B5G) heterogeneous networks (HetNets) to meet the increasing needs of smart mobile devices. However, the implementation of D2D communications is accompanied by various technical challenges and obstacles related to channel and power allocation. In this paper, a joint mode selection and resource allocation scheme is proposed to improve Spectrum Efficiency (SE) in relay-aided D2D communications underlaying HetNets while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) for D2D pairs and Cellular Users (CUs). The joint mode selection and resource allocation problem is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem, which is notably difficult to solve. Therefore, the optimization problem is decomposed into three subproblems: mode selection, channel allocation, and power allocation to tackle the optimization problem. First, a greedy-based mode selection algorithm is proposed to select the best mode (direct mode, relay-aided mode) for D2D pairs. Second, a Multi-Agent Q-Learning (MAQL) algorithm is presented to assign the optimal channel for D2D pairs. Then, based on the allocated optimal channel, a modified MAQL algorithm is introduced to allocate the optimal power for each D2D transmitter. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach compared to other schemes and validate the significant increase in system sum data rate and SE achieved by spectrum sharing with cellular communication.
